Newly released court documents in the case of Robert Lewis Dear, who confessed to murdering three people at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood office last November, reveal that Dear wanted to emulate his hero — Paul Hill, an anti-choice terrorist executed in 2003 for the 1994 murders of a doctor and his bodyguard in Pensacola, Florida.

Dear was also directly inspired to commit his murderous attack on Planned Parenthood by the discredited videos created by David Daleiden and his Center for Medical Progress:

Robert Dear told police he attacked the clinic in Colorado Springs because he was upset with the reproductive health organization for “the selling of baby parts,” according to the documents which give the deepest look yet into his seething disdain for abortion providers. Dear also told investigators he put glue in the locks at an abortion clinic when he lived in South Carolina, a common protest technique among activists trying to shut down such facilities.

He planned to blow up the clinic by setting up propane tanks and shooting at them; although he did shoot at the tanks, luckily they failed to explode.

Dear also said he would be rewarded by God for his murderous rampage.

During an interview in which he repeatedly recited Bible passages, Dear told police he dreamed he would be “met by all the aborted fetuses at the gates of heaven and they would thank him for what he did because his actions saved lives of other unborn fetuses,” the documents say. “He was happy with what he had done because his actions … ensured that no more abortions would be conducted at the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs,” which has since reopened.

It was pretty obvious from the beginning that this was a case of anti-choice terrorism, but let’s not forget that right wing media and politicians immediately tried to deny the connections and deflect blame — even, in the case of Ted Cruz, trying to say Dear was a “transgendered left wing activist.”
