Rudy Giuliani: “Economic Genius” Trump “A Lot Better for the US Than a Woman”

It’s hard to believe and even harder to overstate how irrational and misogynistic Rudy Giuliani comes off in his interview today with George Stephanopoulos.

Giuliani says “a man who has this kind of economic genius is a lot better for the United States than a woman.” Yes, he really said this!

He also went on Meet the Press today and defended Trump’s accusation that Hillary Clinton cheats on her husband, saying “everybody does.” And yes, he really said this too!

Apparently all women cheat on their husbands too. Mr. C and I will have to discuss this over dinner tonight. Probably won’t be as interesting as Giuliani supposes.

[Embedded content]FWIW: The NYT’s headline says “could have avoided paying taxes.”

So, it’s also possible Trump could have paid his taxes in following years.

i remind everyone that its not the 900m loss that’s the story

that only goes to being a bad businessman and all the tax shaming hes done for years

and nol carryforward losses were legal and perfectly legitimate in and of themselves and do offset the other years income

its whether the loss itself is phony

- did he actually lose 900m of his own money
or
- is it generated out of leveraged debt he has neither paid off nor has taken into income as forgiven

22
allegro  Oct 2, 2016 • 12:11:36pm

From the last thread (hi CL!):

Hillary: Trump has been cheating the American people his entire career, using loopholes created by the rich for the rich, enabling him to profit from his own bad decisions and incompetent management, even wishing for harm to come to the American people so he can increase his personal wealth while paying no taxes. He believes that makes him smart and he brags about it. Do you think this man will ever be on your side?

The big stories out of it are:
1. Is he that bad a businessman?
2. Has he been avoiding paying taxes when he bashes other people for not paying them?

It’s pretty much been dead since he attempted to cancel the NYC mayoral election after 9/11.

Oh, and ‘genius’ must have been on the campaign’s talking points for today - Christie used it as well.

They think they can get out in front of this with pure bluster, but it’s already way too late. Trmpanzees are going to love it, Clinton supporters already hate it - but undecideds are going to look at 18 years of zero taxes and think nothing but ‘who the fuck does this guy think he is?’

OK. I didn’t quite get it the first time. You’re saying that Trump may have filed a $900M tax loss but he made that up.

That would get both him and his accountants in trouble, unless he did some playing with numbers that I don’t think he’s smart enough to do.

This point is starting to get some traction. Trump is far more likely to have borrowed money to buy assets which became worthless, hence the $915e6 loss.

But what happened to that debt?

If it was forgiven, that’s income and negates the Net Operating Loss. But we know that the Trump Campaign is NOT denying that he has used the NOL to pay no income tax for years, so that doesn’t seem likely.

If it was NOT forgiven, then somebody or some thing is holding it.

Rudy took whatever was left of his reputation from 9/11 and set it on fire, doused it with nitric acid, defecated repeatedly on whatever was left and then sprayed the surrounding area with phosgene gas to make absolutely sure it was dead dead dead.

And then ate the whole thing, which is why he looks like that.

No, he didn’t. He hired lawyers and accountants.

Over at the Washington Post. This is fucking insane. Bugfuck batshit run screaming for the hills and never come back insane.

“So beautiful,” Melanie said as Ivanka Trump walked onto the convention stage to introduce her father, and soon the soaring score of the movie “Air Force One” was blasting through the TV. Melanie sat up straighter. This is what she had been waiting for.

“Here comes Big Daddy,” she said, clapping. “The Donald. Big Daddy.”

Kevin was snoring.

“Here he is, babe,” she said. “Donald’s here, babe.”

Trump walked onto the stage, chanting “U-S-A! U-S-A!”

“That’s right, Donald — USA, baby,” Melanie said to the Republican nominee for president, who began his speech by marveling at all the Americans who had gotten him here.

“Who would have believed that when we started this journey on June 16th of last year we — and I say we, because we are a team — would have received almost 14 million votes?” Trump said, looking out on the cheering crowd.

“I would,” Melanie said to the TV. “I would, Donald.”

***

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaks July 21, the final day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. (Ricky Carioti/The Washington Post)

The first time she had seen him, at a rally in June, she was just beginning to realize how many people saw the world the way she did, that she was one among millions. At the time, her hips were still sore from a series of injections intended to calm her. She had gotten them in February, during a difficult time in her life, when she had been involuntarily hospitalized for several weeks after what she called a “rant,” a series of online postings that included one saying that Obama should be hanged and the White House fumigated and burned to the ground. On her discharge papers, in a box labeled “medical problem,” a doctor had typed “homicidal ideation.”

Read the whole thing if you can. This is one of the most terrifying and depressing glimpses of working class paranoia, rage and depression I have ever seen.

She went down a conspiracy theory rathole after a federal judge screwed her over on a 450,000 dollar sexual harassment case she had won in a jury trial. She started having severe anxiety problems and she eventually got fired from her railroad engineer job. That seems to be when she went completely bonkers online with saying the FLOTUS as a ‘transexual’ pervert and the kids were all abducted from some other person. Then she went into the demands that the Clinton family and the Obama family all be rounded up and executed and the White House be burned to the ground.

Something broke in her and she is not going to come back from it.

She is far from the only one who has fallen through the social safety net and is retaliating in this fashion. We have 40 years of the GOP destroying the tax base and the industries that these people relied on, and then made sure these “moochers” had no support from the government when everything went all to hell.

Even if Hillary does win, we have a massive social nightmare on our hands and no ready means of fixing it.

I know. Both she and her husband are from and remain in an area that’s virtually economically dead. She had men shit in her for years. She had and lost a good job all while a bunch of asshole men harassed her for daring to have a guy’s job. Her husband fared just as well.

I don’t know how you fix that. I don’t know if you can. I do know that her pain (as well as the illness) is real. And I’m sure that frustration is felt in small and dying towns across America.

I doubt she did that deliberately. She sounds genuinely ill and should have been in a long term outpatient treatment program before that ever happened.

But here in the USA, we tend to not get involved with mental illness until it gets bad enough that the cops have to show up. Then, the person gets shot as often as not.

It’s useful to remember that his models (2 out of 3) are designed to change results as the campaign closes. ‘Polls-plus’ includes inputs from historical trends and changing economic numbers, among other things. We also don’t have the state and precinct level data he uses in his special sauce. Can’t get wrapped up in daily shifts. The most important take-away is that Florida is essentially tied.

Pat Robertson Attributes Trump’s Sniffing to the Holy Spirit

Televangelist Pat Robertson has come to the defense of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who had a disastrous performance at Monday night’s debate. Apart from lying repeatedly and interrupting Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton several times, Trump was also seen to be sniffing.

Howard Dean, a medical doctor and former Democratic presidential candidate, suggested Trump may been using cocaine, but Robertson had a more spiritual explanation.

“Trump sniffing may have been a sign of the Holy Spirit coming out of him,” said Robertson on “The 700 Club.” “The Holy Spirit affects people in strange ways. Some people go into a frenzy, some people start laughing uncontrollably, some people bark like dogs. Apparently, Trump sniffs.

Addendum: The highlighted portion indicates that fundies will have a ready explanation if their thrice married, casino profiteer hero should, in fact, go into a frenzy, laugh uncontrollably, and bark like a dog during the next debate.

I keep seeing people post about white “woolly bears”. There is no such thing. There are a couple of different species of moth caterpillars that are white and fluffy or fuzzy, but they are not true Woolly Bears(Isabella Tiger Moth). If you check online photos, you can see what the white fuzzy caterpillars are. I see the lovely fuzzy white ones around this time of year as well. They have much longer hair, are smaller and thinner.

I don’t know if you caught my comment last Sunday night…but I got a chance to see The Dandy Warhols here in Columbus at Skullys Music Diner and they put on one of the best sounding trippy music experiences I’ve seen. Sound wise, they impressed me in the same way I’ve been impressed in the past by the likes of Genesis and King Crimson.

And, strictly speaking, neither Wang, nor Silver are trained statisticians, so of course one should treat what they say with a grain of salt. They still probably know more about this stuff than anyone here, and while there may be problems with both models, dismissing the one or the other on the basis of “the polls the model uses are crappy”, apparently not understanding that the poll data is not used raw but rather weighted, is just not serious.

Yes! I found Android likes to keep files that you thought were deleted, even if they were the same damn filename. As I mentioned in my rather long rant last night, I found where they were stored on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 tablet, wiped them out and sure enough the new files were just fine once downloaded.

I am not impressed with that little quirk. As I said last night, I’ve found the Android Operating System to be odd in a few ways.

Now I need to find out how to also make the epub or pdf files into freaking Amazon mobi files. I wish there was one standard for ebooks. Unfortunately Adobe InDesign does not create mobi files. Must be an Amazon control/rights thing. They sure don’t make it easy for a designer.

None of which says anything about the accuracy of his model.

The thing is, in the end they’re all models.

Wang and Silver are actually saying the same thing - “Hillary is ahead where she needs to be” - but each has his own view of how to mode the uncertainty of that conclusion. And because there’s only one actual trial of their predictions, it’s not possible to determine whose uncertainty calculations are accurate.

The discussion of what polls to include is an interesting one. TPM’s PollTracker allows you to delete pollsters from the average, which is educational, but one must be cautious. Overall, however, if deleting a single poll causes a significant shift, you can conclude the poll is an outlier - which doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

For fun, try deleting Rasmussen from the national horserace average and watch what happens to the trendlines.

Yeah, I have some special little flourishes screened behind the chapter titles and quotes and fancy initial caps in the InDesign files that were a bit hard to get into the epubs, but managed to do it.

Some epub readers converted them to standard fonts and that looked terrible. But the client/author had them in an original version and she wanted me to update the book and make it both ebook and audiobook (she recorded the wave files).

I used a Chrome app called Readium that worked pretty well to check files against Play Books on my Tab 4 tablet. I guess not all ebook readers are of the same quality…which is a shame.

It has been an experience!

My parents used to live in Lake Worth—I was trying to remember if his name sounded familiar, but then realized that my folks died 25+ years ago, so Jack would have been a “yoot” back then and was obviously still living up north.

I had family in Lake Worth, also. My Godmother, and a great-aunt and uncle. Enjoyed visiting the area, when I was a ‘yoot’.
