You mean he should work his way up? Yeah, I agree with that. Definitely agree with the concerns about economic message and cultural issues too. The fact of the matter is those cultural issues DO effect people in his district. And as I said earlier today, I don’t want us lying to these people about economics either. Frankly, despite what a lot of these types say, I don’t think we’ve abandoned our core message on economics at all, we’ve just become a more vocally socially liberal party and more inclusive which is a good thing IMO.

For you baseball fans, Mike Trout won his second MVP. Since becoming a regular in 2012, he has finished no lower than second in the MVP voting. Kris Bryant wins MVP in the National League joining some good company in having won the rookie of the year and following up with a MVP. Good votes though I may have struggled with Trout since one can argue that MVP should go to a player on a contending club but there’s no denying how special a talent Trout is. Bryant is a no-brainer.

I don’t totally blame her for that since she’s competing with the head of the DNC, whose job seems to be finding ways to lose elections.

Some good truth-telling over at DailyKos dailykos.com

Let me say it right here - if you voted for Trump, I do think you are a racist. I do think you’re homophobic. I do think you’re a misogynist. Racism, and homophobia, and misogyny are all a spectrum, and you’re on it. You might not be a ‘cheering while a black man gets lynched’ racist, but boy, did you just sell them the rope and look the other way.

Don’t like getting painted with the broad brush of racism? Now you know what it feels like when you get told that you want to rip a baby out of a mother’s womb at nine months when that’s not what happens. That’s NEVER, what happens. You wanna call yourself a Christian? Then look inside yourself and try to find some compassion for these women who get told in their third trimester that their baby’s not going to live. They’ve already had the shower. They’ve already decorated the nursery. They already know the sex, and probably have a name picked out. But look at all that, and keep screaming ‘baby killers’ at them, and not voting for the candidates who are defending their biological necessity to have to do the unthinkable - and I think I’m still cool calling you a racist.

Someone was asking downstairs about which appointments needed Senate confirmation. According to the GAO there are 321 presidentially appointed (PA) positions, however Obama… ಠ_ಠ

On August 10, 2012, the President signed into law the Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011 (Streamlining Act of 2011).1 The act eliminated the need for the Senate to vote on 163 executive nominations, converting them to presidentially appointed positions.2 The act required GAO to report to Congress and the President on positions in executive agencies that require appointment by the President without Senate confirmation (PA).

All the details are in this PDF (just search for the numbers above).

The bill’s sponsor was Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). You can find the text here if you like reading that sort of thing. Below, a more recent document (August 23, 2016) goes into the details of the confirmation process, what each position entails, whether it’s part-time or full-time, and what the term limits are, if any. At the end is an appendix (page 48 of the document, but page 51 of the PDF) that lists PA positions which no longer require confirmation.

I’m NOT happy with President Obama for that. ಠ_ಠ Yeah, I know the GOP blocked him at every turn, but shit… I’m grouchy now, so I’m retiring for the night.

This is an old tweet (from June) and talks specifically about Bernie but I think reflects a lot of the discussion going on with regards to the split on the economic message.

The broader issue here is to once again take for granted the votes of women and minorities (because what are they going to do, vote Republican? LOL) in favor of chasing after the straight white male vote, which is presumably only influenced by economic arguments. Which. Please.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the strongest advocates of this approach have been straight white men.

Maybe I’m just seeing things, but that seems like part of the systemic racism and misogyny in the system to me.

I’ve been to that part of Ohio.

It doesn’t make me any happier about someone who has never been involved in the leadership for the House wanting the top minority job at a time where the Dems are going to need to be working as much as possible to stand up against the nutcase that’s winning the electoral college vote. And for that campaign to come out on the back of the need to return to an “economic” message which, as I’ve stated in other places, conveniently pushes the concerns of women and minorities to the backseat.

He’s more than welcome to run, but I’m definitely reserving judgement here and I think that’s more than fair given the context.

re: #27 HappyWarrior

For you baseball fans, Mike Trout won his second MVP. Since becoming a regular in 2012, he has finished no lower than second in the MVP voting. Kris Bryant wins MVP in the National League joining some good company in having won the rookie of the year and following up with a MVP. Good votes though I may have struggled with Trout since one can argue that MVP should go to a player on a contending club but there’s no denying how special a talent Trout is. Bryant is a no-brainer.

Trout is the best player in MLB, and it sure isn’t his fault the Angels suck, so its a well deserved MVP award.

re: #89 klys (maker of Silmarils)

I’ve been to that part of Ohio.

It doesn’t make me any happier about someone who has never been involved in the leadership for the House wanting the top minority job at a time where the Dems are going to need to be working as much as possible to stand up against the nutcase that’s winning the electoral college vote. And for that campaign to come out on the back of the need to return to an “economic” message which, as I’ve stated in other places, conveniently pushes the concerns of women and minorities to the backseat.

He’s more than welcome to run, but I’m definitely reserving judgement here and I think that’s more than fair given the context.

Well, I guess I’ll close by saying he is being pushed along by other Democrats in the House so someone seems to think he is leadership material. I’m not trying to sway you either, not my style…I just was trying to add to the discussion as this is a potential big change.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop shoveling.

The twin cities is still holding at 1”-3” in the forecast. It’s been big news on the radio, but it looks like the other side of the state is going to get hammered.

I bought a snowblower during a Vet’s Day sale two years ago. I haven’t even put gas in it yet. I’ve been saving it for heavy storms because it’s less hassle to use the shovel for anything under 6”. We only had one real snowstorm last year and I wound up shoveling that in shifts 8 hours apart, before bedtime, before work and after work.

He might very well be leadership material. I’d be very happy to see him join the ranks of the leadership if he can get the votes.

I am less thrilled to see a campaign for the top spot from someone with no experience.* I’m sure there are people in the House who want a change. Just like I’m sure there are people in the House who think that Bernie is right and we should go back to the economic message and forget all this “environmental” and “social liberal” crap that loses us the straight white male vote. Supposedly.

* For fuck’s sake, I don’t really give a fuck if less than half of the American people didn’t think it was a disqualification for the presidency, I’m not about to embrace it as a positive in politics. The transition alone shows why you** shouldn’t.

** The “you” here is general. And for the record, all I’m doing is stating my opinion and the reasons behind it.

Let’s be as generous as possible to Trump voters, 3rd party voters and (D) stay-at-homes, by assuming (without much justification, by the way) that they are not, in fact, bigoted pigs just waiting to grab some pussy and lynch some n*****s.

The fact remains that by their support (or inaction) they supported Trump who is an admitted pussy grabber and sexual predator, and whose campaign was founded on racial bigotry and scapegoating.

Trump’s objective disqualifications from office are so numerous and massive that they never seemed to sink in for the electorate. Each succeeding revelation seemed more to normalize the whole mess rather than drive home the point that this someone you wouldn’t elect to the awesome responsibility of dogcatcher in a county having population 20. Trump would fuck that up. He fucks everything up.

A vote for Trump is inescapably a vote for fucking everything up, and there is no excuse for that.

It’s hard to imagine anything that would do more to keep America’s economy from being great than this kind of anti-immigrant sentiment. I can’t believe I have to say this, but here it is: It doesn’t matter if a lot of Asian-Americans are tech CEOs. Asian-Americans are Americans. Nor does it matter if a lot of immigrants are tech CEOs. Immigrants are Americans. Someone born in Mumbai or Shanghai or wherever else who gets their citizenship is just as much an American as someone born in Massachusetts who can trace their ancestry all the way back to the Mayflower. That’s what makes America America. It’s not about where you’re from, or a belief that some people are better than others. It’s about where you’re going, and a belief that all men and women are created equal.

Yep. This should be something Dems fight. Flynn appears to be as dangerously delusional as Trump.

That’s you editing yourself, which we all do, totally different from chastising others not for what they say but how they say it. I have no problem with going after people for shitty content but scolding justifiably angry people because their tone is inappropriate, especially while doing so from an ecclesiastical high horse, will always piss me off. Clergy feel way to fucking empowered to butt in and tell total goddamned strangers how they should live and how they need to conduct themselves while protesting the very injustices organized religion has historically supported. I don’t mean to go all militant atheist here but fuck that.
