Trump Horror, Day 6: State Dept. Management Quits, Mexico Cancels Meeting, Alex Jones To Get WH Press Creds

The bad craziness is accelerating to Warp Speed
Politics • Views: 54,840

It’s still the early afternoon of day 6 of the Trump Horror, and already the State Department’s entire senior management team has resigned, Mexico’s president canceled his planned visit to Washington over Trump’s idiotic border wall fantasy, and mayors of large US cities are threatening massive lawsuits over Trump’s moves to defund “sanctuary cities.”

Oh… and last but not least, conspiracy-mongering lunatic Alex Jones has been invited to Trump’s White House press briefings.

Media Matters

ALEX JONES: Here’s the deal, I know I get White House credentials, we’ve already been offered them, we’re going to get them, but I’ve just got to spend the money to send somebody there. I want to make sure it’s even worth it. I don’t want to just sit there up there like “I’m in the media, look our people are there.” People don’t understand this paradigm, we’re devolving in a good way, power from the federal government back to the people, back from the centralized MSM [mainstream media] to the people, just like Trump said in his speech.

But there is investigative journalism, or people to interview in DC. Might be good to put a few reporters there, it’s just all a money issue. That’s why it’s important for people who are watching us to know, you are our sponsors. You’re the reason we’re able to do this. You’re the reason we’re able to have the crew and do what we do and change the world.

Speaking to TPM, a White House spokesperson denied that Alex Jones currently has press credentials, which I should note to be completely fair, although I should also note that all of these people who work for Donald Trump lie like priceless Persian rugs on a rich man’s floor.

And note that they denied he currently has press creds, not that he was invited to get them — which is what Jones is claiming.

How the fuck do we have come to a point where 9/11 Truthers (who were mocked and vilified relentlessly by Republicans and the entire right-wing blogosphere during the Bush administration) are now equipped with White House press credentials???

Oh, and Mexico’s president canceled their planned meeting with Trump next week:

Umm…. Mexico shit canned the meeting because of the #FUCKINGWALL.

This was not mutually agreed upon because scheduling conflicts or that there was something important/higher priority. The Mexican government is flat out of fucks to give Trump the time of day because he’s a bigot who’s pushing for a wall and renegotiating NAFTA that requires Canada and Mexico to actually agree to renegotiate (hint, they have no interest since it benefits them and the US).

Posturing, BS, and more preening. This is all Trump ego and ignorance on display.

I think it’s more likely to be true. Trump himself and all the people in Trump’s inner circle, including his family members, are tight with Alex Jones.

This is going to happen, sooner or later. Probably sooner.

White House Denies Giving Alex Jones Press Credentials (goes to The Hill)

The White House press office is denying it offered credentials to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s website Infowars, after Jones claimed in a video that he had been offered access.

“He is not credentialed for the White House. The White House Press Office has not offered him credentials,” White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders told BuzzFeed on Thursday morning.

Jones on Wednesday posted a video claiming the White House offered him credentials.

“Here’s the deal, I know I get White House credentials, we’ve already been offered them, we’re going to get them, but I’ve just got to spend the money to send somebody there,” Jones says in the clip.

“I want to make sure it’s even worth it. I don’t want to just sit there up there like ‘I’m in the media, look our people are there.’”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer indicated Monday that four “Skype seats” would be made available to some journalists who are outside of a 50-mile radius of Washington, D.C. It is not known when the Skype seats will be deployed during daily press briefings.

I noticed on the last post that garbage trucks were used to protect the short-fingered vulgarian from the protesters. That reminded me of Scientology, which has this bad habit of blocking off protesters from the view of its “parishioners” and “Chairman of the Board” David Miscavige.

Back around 2000, we were having our annual picket and memorial for the death of Lisa McPherson in Clearwater, and Scientology rented every single van and truck it could get its hands on to park on the sidewalks around the Fort Harrison Hotel. One of our number rented a pickup and found a spot not far from cult central and we had “party in the pickup” for the weekend.

Lest you think that was extreme, it wasn’t. Another time in the same period, Miscavige ordered his people to get permits to tear up the sidewalks so we couldn’t walk on them. We drove around and around in cars. This stuff always backfires.

I’ll again remind folks that Trump’s lying his ass off about the wall, and also that most of the wall is already built. There will never be a wall along all 2,000 miles, not when a significant portion of the border is the Rio Grande River and the treaty between the US and Mexico is specific about that and what that constitutes. If the US would build a fence along those sections, it would have to be on the US side inland - sometimes significantly so to avoid high water/flood levels, and that also means effectively losing ground to Mexico.

It would also potentially separate private land owners from their land that abuts the border.

It would also come into conflict with at least one Tribe that has land adjacent to the border.

Never mind that much of the unfenced border is in inaccessible and difficult terrain and would be easily circumvented by a rope (as Trump himself admits).

Oh, and most illegals actually entered the country legally but have since overstayed their visas. Majority aren’t coming as a result of crossing the border at places other than border control points.

OT: Village water tower crisis finally averted.

The village clerk got back to town with the pump house key (we really need to get more than one of those). The gun shop owner (the fellow I defeated in the last election by four votes) is trained to work on things with the water panel (such as setting and clearing tests). He went in and cleared out the test.

The ex-mayor was already driving by the village shop (where the panel is) considering whether he would just take care of it himself (since he has no keys, that would mean doing something like breaking in). He was really getting tired of being called by the water tower automated alarm every twenty-six minutes for the better part of half a day.

Next up, learning how to program that panel to update the numbers. Our late village clerk is the only one who knew how to do that; the gun shop owner pointed out on the phone to me “You were in the military, you should be used to someone throwing a five-hundred page manual at you and saying ‘learn this.’”

(I get the impression that figuring out how to reprogramme the alarm system is going to be my job.)

Since Hillary clearly won the popular vote by a wide margin, can we logically continue to blame Johnson/Stein voters for the outcome? Especially when the EC was tilted in Trump’s favor anyways.

I appreciate any clarification about this because this has got me thinking. I would rather not lash out at them if they can’t technically be blamed for how the election turned out.

There were more votes cast for Jill Stein in MI, WI & PA than the margin won by Trump.

I just got an email from Our-nation dot com, asking me to sign a petition to abolish income tax. Not exactly sure how I made it onto that list.

Check the fine print on things like this. If it’s a petition to repeal the 16th amendment, you should know that the practical effect of passage of the 16th amendment was that income from rent, dividends etc. could be taxed. Income from wages was taxable before and after passage of the 16th amendment.

How would those votes for that moonbat affected the EC outcome, if the popular vote overall went to Hillary?

The overall popular vote is across all states. The EC is determined by votes within each state.

If the people who voted for Stein in the close states had gone for Clinton, she would have won them, collected the EVs for those states, and won the presidency. Popular vote in the whole US doesn’t win you the election; the popular vote in each state determines who wins that states EVs.

It doesn’t seem very likely that a Johnson voter who did not have Johnson to choose had he not run would have instead voted for Clinton.

And of the three people Johnson got in my village, I know my wife had something to do with that (plumping Johnson to GOP voters as an alternative to Trump as none of those three would have voted for Clinton).

Yes. IMO it’s less the effect a specific vote had on the total in any given state and more the intent of that vote by the one who cast it. Those who did not vote for the only option that protected us from Trump/GOP - as well as those who didn’t vote at all - own the current situation. Complaints from them now are too late, too bad. That ‘:large’ suffix has be there, in order to get Twitter to show the large version of the image instead of a small thumbnail, so I can’t remove it. However, if you save the image to your Image Library instead of downloading it to your computer, that suffix will be removed in your Image Library.

Virginia police are now warning about the scheme, which also sparked warnings by Pennsylvania authorities late last year. The “can you hear me” con is actually a variation on earlier scams aimed at getting the victim to say the word “yes” in a phone conversation. That affirmative response is recorded by the fraudster and used to authorize unwanted charges on a phone or utility bill or on a purloined credit card.

They’re not “resigning” in the sense that you would resign from your job. They’re resigning in the way The West Wing portrayed: Every official appointed by the previous administration is expected to retire, and the administration normally asks for them to stay on. Trump just isn’t. If they didn’t “retire”, they’d just be fired, which is some of what we’re going to see.

So have a lot of gun safety bills been the BRA. Dishonesty doesn’t seem to bother them either.

Friend of a friend was railing one night against the “cartoon eagle” used to teach kids about gun safety. He was quite upset that we were “pussifying” our kids to be afraid of guns. He refused to belive that the “carton eagle” was in fact Eddie Eagle, the NRA safety cartoon, until I showed him proof on my phone.

Mexico was the United States’ 3rd largest supplier of goods imports in 2015.

U.S. goods imports from Mexico totaled $295 billion in 2015, up 0.2% ($667 million) from 2014, and up 73% from 2005. U.S. imports from Mexico are up 638% from 1993 (pre-NAFTA). U.S. imports from Mexico are up 638% from 1993 (pre-NAFTA).

The top import categories (2-digit HS) in 2015 were: vehicles ($74 billion), electrical machinery ($63 billion), machinery ($49 billion), mineral fuels ($14 billion), and optical and medical instruments ($12 billion).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Mexico totaled $21 billion in 2015, our 2nd largest supplier of agricultural imports. Leading categories include: fresh vegetables ($4.8 billion), other fresh fruit ($4.3 billion), wine and beer ($2.7 billion), snack foods ($1.7 billion), and processed fruit & vegetables ($1.4 billion).

U.S. imports of services from Mexico were an estimated $21.6 billion in 2015, 11.0% ($2.1 billion) more than 2014, and 50.0% greater than 2005 levels. It was up roughly 191% from 1993 (pre-NAFTA). Based on 2014, leading services imports from Mexico to the U.S. were in the travel, transportation, and technical and other services sectors.

Sure seems like a 20% tax on imports would severely impact the average American consumer.

I have to disagree with that some of that analogy: Putin is set on re-establishing the Russian Empire, not pursuing the goals of the USSR.

Although the analogy of Germans in the Sudetenland and Austria is at least partially applicable, inasmuch as millions of ethnic Russians were left stranded outside of Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Putin would like to see these people restored to the privileged position they once enjoyed as members of the dominant nationality.

Middle-class and wealthy people are more likely to buy new cars. MSRP on a fairly basic Ford F-150 is about $33,000. A 20% tariff would mean the price jumps to $39,600. That’s going to kill a lot of sales on big ticket items.

Appreciate the responses. Now I have a much better understanding of the impact now (whereas post-election I was too angry and lashed out at anybody who voted 3rd party more than those who voted Trump). I’m only angry at the 3rd party voters in the 3 states that helped tipped the election in Pumpkin Pinochet’s favor.

While what they are saying is correct in terms of EC, had all those knuckleheads in other states voted for Hillary (or trump) we would likely have had a 6 million plus popular vote difference, which I think would have been even more significant.

Not that it would have done anything (those swing states were key to the EC) but the larger the difference in popular vote, the harder it is to be legitimate.

20% hike on basic perishables. Think of all the fresh food that you see in supermarkets. A not insignificant portion comes from Mexico.

Now tack 20% on to the prices. That’s what this does, because where else is the cost getting incorporated.

Oh wait, it’ll also be felt at the gas pump and on transportation too - because we import oil/petroleum products from Mexico. Airfare will also rise in US as will delivery costs.

It will become more expensive to do business in the US as a result of this 20% tax. It’s a tax, regardless of how you call it a border adjustment or tariff. You as an end user will be paying it (the same damned thing that these GOP nuts claim that corporate income taxes get passed on to the consumer).

Tequila sales will take a bath too. Same with Mexican beer.

But hey, enjoy your ~1% income tax cut while the rich make out like bandits.

I think that equation has changed. Or was that 3 million examples of apathy out on the march?

The marches and protests are great. Democrats in Congress voting for Trump nominees like Carson are a problem.

There’s only one possible acceptable reason for a Democratic Senator to vote for a Trump cabinet nominee, and that is trading a ‘yes’ vote on a nomination for a Article 25 proxy from the nominee to be used vs. Trump.

Of course this is just a pipe dream, since merely talking about this level of hardball within the same area code is enough to give most elected Democrats the vapors.

The poor are more likely to spend a higher percentage of their available funds on FOOD.
A purchase of which that generally can not be cancelled or postponed to a later date.

If middle-class and wealthy do not purchase new cars less used vehicles enter the resale market, reducing number of used vehicles entering secondary market, increasing demand, driving up costs of personal transportation options for the less affluent

Good points, was just thinking about one point in the stream. The down stream implications are very big.

And with 5% unemployment, it’s not like we are suddenly going to be able to open up plants to build all this stuff ourselves… or be able to get the raw materials necessary to build them.

If not, this country is going to explode. The demonstrations in Philly today show people are growing restless. If the media doesn’t do something, and congress doesn’t so something, the people are going to go crazy in the streets.

Free of charge for all citizens and low cost for non-citizens.

If they solve those “problems” (reducing non-existent voter fraud, rate of abortions, &c) they have nothing to drive their voters in fear to the polls over.

They are not interested in solving those issue.

On abortion, Colorado showed that if you make long-term contraceptives available at no charge to teens, the abortion rate plummets. (Colorado didn’t even have to pay for it, as it was funded by a wealthy benefactor.)

Everything came out from parents concerned the state was promoting promiscuity to outright opposition to birth control itself. The plummeting abortion rate suddenly didn’t matter.

Good luck with that. There’s no evidence the GOP is going to do that while he’s busy giving them everything they’ve ever wanted to do.

There is going to be a point where things like a 20% tariff on goods and shutting out the press are going to bite the GOP in the ass with all Americans.

That means their big money people that run large chain stores and auto dealerships are going to apply pressure on them big time.

The people behind big media took a gamble on playing to the wingnuts. If all of a sudden their ratings tank to the likes of Brietbart they too are going to be calling their Congress representatives.

Trump in his mad rush is going to stress too many businesses and put too much burden on too many people. This is like a train running headlong into a mountain.

There is an implosion coming along with this explosion. It is going to collect everyone. GOP will not be immune. Yes, they may try to play it off and see if they can get past it, but as long as Trump is Trump it won’t work. They act like dumbasses, but they are smart enough to know this is unsustainable.

I bet there are nervous politicians meeting in secret to figure out what they are going to do. As soon as they try anything they are going to find out they have no control over the beast and it will be full game on.

It sure would be interesting to watch if we all didn’t have to suffer the outcomes of what is going to come.

This has the making of being bigger than those as Trump is going to touch too many of all backgrounds, incomes, etc.

The heat is on Sheriff Clarke. Finally, the local paper is calling for him to go.

Haynes: Why we think Clarke has to go

This has been building for a while - our decision to call on Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. to step down. But we finally had had enough of the so-called sheriff of Milwaukee County and his bizarre, self-indulgent behavior.

So on Tuesday afternoon, we called on Clarke to do the residents of Milwaukee County a favor and resign.

The Clarke outrages have piled up like snowdrifts in a Wisconsin blizzard these past few days. The plotlines are similar: A power-hungry politician plays the victim and tries to bully an opponent.

That would be bad enough if Clarke were just some loud-mouthed guy at the end of the bar. It’s unacceptable behavior in a public servant. Especially a public servant who has frequently neglected his duties as sheriff for Fox News appointments or other engagements while leaving the work of the sheriff’s office to someone else. Since last April, four people have died in the jail he oversees including a baby and a man who apparently perished of thirst.

Yes, which means Mexico isn’t paying for it. Hypothetically it hurts them in that it reduces sales, but their hurt doesn’t translate into paying for the wall. Also they can and will retaliate on US made goods. It’s a lose lose proposition. There’s a reason tariff wars haven’t been popular for the last half century, everyone (until now) looked at how they worsened and prolonged the Great Depression and realized there was a better way.

One of my friends put it this way. We import a lot of fresh food from Mexico. The rise in price of fresh food will make lower income people resort to buying more processed foods which in turn will lead to health issues and increased health costs.

Trump seems to think it’s like one of his own business deals: He threatens to cut off “access” or “business” and the other side acquiesces to his demands. In the real world, when we tell our close trade partners that we’re altering the terms of the deal, they respond back “Two can play that game.”

Hey…I just got an email from the Ohio Democratic Party asking if I want to run for office.

It is being called the Ohio Democratic Party “Main Street Initiative” and they are going to host professional candidate trainings across the state to help people navigate opportunities in public service.

So, it looks like some of the grassroots/local need for Democrats is being understood by the Ohio Democratic Party. Hopefully this is going on all over the country.

And no, as I said the other day, I won’t be running for office. I am not going to start a political career at my age with all the other things I have to do. But I will be trying hard to help the party and its candidates with things I can do with my graphic artist/advertising communications talents.

Nebraska Dems put the same up on their Facebook page, that they are seeking people to run for offices and are holding training sessions (all hundreds of miles from me).

Not a really good way to run an organisation. Kind of like my state party.

Perhaps if the state party had a message it could disseminate to county parties, so everyone working for the party was working on the same issues …

If county parties could talk to the state party to tell them what is working in the field and what isn’t, what they need for support and what they don’t … .

Nah. That would be too organised. Can’t have an organised message.

I was reading about the militant strain of feminism that developed in Germany in the 60’s and 70’s. Seems that unlike in America, where feminism was an accepted part of the leftist counterculture, the class warriors in Germany’s leftist movement had little regard for women and little use for them outside their previous traditional roles.

That led to feminism splintering off into a movement of its own.

heh.
A couple of years ago the Democratic party in my county begged me to take over the job as county chair. But that would have required me to change my voter registration and I was not going to give up the power of my vote as a registered Republican to do my small part in keeping the fake Republicans (read = Ron/Rand Paul Libertarians) in taking over the local and state GOP. Also, our local elected offices are ALL selected during the GOP primaries in May, so if I want a say in who gets to be in local office, I have to remain a registered Republican because November elections are just an annoying formality.

They did manage to find another local registered Republican willing to change her registration to take the (unpaid) job. I help out as much as I can, but until we get some non-lunatic Democrats to run for office here (or even join the party), it’s an uphill battle. (Trust me, the Democrats here are just stunningly incompetent in just about everything…and that’s not including the Blue Dogs.)
