For Immediate Release
FCC CIO STATEMENT ON DISTRIBUTED DENIAL-OF-SERVICE
ATTACKS ON FCC ELECTRONIC COMMENT FILING SYSTEM

WASHINGTON, May 8, 2017 ñ Federal Communications Commission Chief Information
Officer Dr. David Bray issued the following statement today regarding the cause of delays experienced by consumers recently trying to file comments on the FCCís Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS):
ìBeginning on Sunday night at midnight, our analysis reveals that the FCC was subject to multiple distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDos). These were deliberate attempts by external actors to bombard the FCCís comment system with a high amount of traffic to our commercial cloud host. These actors were not attempting to file comments themselves; rather they made it difficult for legitimate commenters to access and file with the FCC. While the comment system remained up and running the entire time, these DDoS events tied up the servers and prevented them from responding to people attempting to submit comments. We have worked with our commercial partners to address this situation and will continue to monitor developments going forward.î

There are at least four of those that snuffle around in the lot next to my job (low country “South by Dog” Carolina). They rummage in the leaves and there are so many of them that I wonder if the people next door to my office keep them as some kind of pet.

I’d only ever seen them dead on the road in Texas, but over on the Bluffton peninsula they wander around like stray cats. It’s downright strange.

If it came with a cookbook, that’s the best place to start.

re: #19 Blind Frog Belly White

Why is it we only do means testing for Presidential Pensions when it’s the BLACK ex-President?

Well, Chaffetz says he wants it to apply to all ex-Presidents now and in the future.

He has put this bill up before, which President Obama vetoed. The bill included cuts to ex-presidents’ staffs and Secret Service. President Obama’s reason for vetoing it was that the bill would take immediate effect, causing President Carter’s, GHW Bush’s, GW Bush’s, and Bill Clinton’s staffs to be immediately fired. It would also cut their Secret Service protection.

I have a few friends who love their Instant Pots. One upgraded to the larger version after about six months. It’s just a pressure cooker, but a programmable one which makes it stupid easy to cook with…and food cooks fast and retains its nutrition as it’s all trapped in as you pressure steam your food.

My suggestion is to go the opposite route. I just got an Anova precision cooker about a month ago and I’ve used it a bunch of times. With a food sealer and a large pot of water, I make perfectly rare steaks every time. Just let it sit at 130 degrees for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, then take it out of the bag and flash sear it on a cast iron pan or on the grill for about 30 seconds per side…done.

I’ve also made 6 hour no-soak beans (dried kidney/cranberry beans, a half onion, some rosemary, a couple of cups of water, seal the bag, and put it in 190 degree water for 6 hours - perfect beans). Artichokes too - 190 x 90 min.

Well, fuck. She sent me two pictures, i-Pad to i-Mac. I slotted the first one over (three dildos) and then the second (the ones you guys are seeing). Preview showed two sets of the trips (!) so I deleted the second on and reposted the trips, which you *didn’t* get.

The second post was the single, taken from around two feet, and yes, the ears are in constant motion when they aren’t imitating organic bulldozers.

I have no idea why you didn’t get the first one.

Anyway, they are now about 4 1/2 to 5” long, front carapace to back, around two inches of head and 4 inches of tail. Cute as hell, in a dinosaur/not of this earth kind of fashion. First saw them last night.

Little alien looking critters, and if you stand still, they will basically crawl over your shoes to get where they’re going.

The adult (mom, I assume) is almost a foot long at the carapace.

Key part of that story:

“The truth is that Grant County’s problems are largely its own fault. For two decades, county officials refused to raise taxes. Instead, to make up for funding shortfalls, they dipped into reserves, draining them by some $2 million over the past eight years. “Over time, of course, if you don’t replace those reserves, you’re going to have a situation where you have a deficit,” says Jamie Baker, executive director of the county chamber of commerce.”

You can use ziplock bags, but getting a food sealer is the way to go. Just measure them to size and shrink-wrap your meat & veggies. I buy the bulk rolls of bags at Costco anyway, so I don’t really re-use anything. You can cook things in jars though…it just adds a bit of time due to the added insulation.

I just stuck 4 eggs in 145 degree water - 45 minutes and they’ll be almost perfectly poached - just have to take them out of their shells and finish (seriouseats.com )
going to have those on polenta with baby artichokes.

You can actually use ziploc heavy duty freezer bags for sous vide with the water displacement method. Put ingredients in bag, don’t seal, and lower slowly into the water so the pressure pushes the air out. Be sure to clip bag to cooking container so it doesn’t fall into the water.

Sous vide is awesome. Been using this technique for years in professional kitchens with machines costing close to $1k. Was thrilled when Anova etc came out with their home machines.

Check out ChefSteps on YouTube.

Given Ken Ham’s very particular theology, I’d be crawling out of my fucking skin if this happened in my county.

Though I find myself wondering how much repeat business they’ll get. I’m weighing the “how many people are that ‘literalist’ and will go once out of curiosity” versus “how many ‘literalist’ people are super excited about confirmation bias plus smiting.”

Of course the motives of racist public officials who closed swimming pools back in the day rather than integrate weren’t to be investigated according to a racist POS supreme court decision.

Even a present-day Republican might see the light if that kind of evidence gets into the record (e.g., that famous picture of the asshole dumping acid into a pool right where some people were).

Edited to add: The Sessions DOJ citing this pigshit as precedent is more blatant than I expected.

Staffing senior levels of executive agencies with every white person on that list would be thoroughly in character for these malignant clowns.

well, I already have a couple of crockpot/slow cookers and three different sizes of pressure cookers (I use those for canning) so, much as I love kitchen gadgets, I’m not really tempted by the Instant Pot.

Note am I. I have a Cuisinart pressure cooker. It was a gift like 10 years ago. It cost $300 and had served me well. It’s like new. Talk about holding up well.

When I left my ex, I found a repossessed house that I could afford - that had a broken stove. I couldn’t afford a stove for seven months. I did everything in that pressure cooker.

Yup. Served me well indeed.

My spice cabinet is sort of like that car trunk full of drugs Hunter S Thompson describes at the beginning of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Comparatively, I’m just starting to assemble kitchen widgets. Mostly because I’ve got two knives I’m in a serious relationship with (a Chinese cleaver and a nakiri bocho) and inherited some ancient cast iron that just never stays off a burner for long.

re: #76 Eclectic Cyborg

Key part of that story:

“The truth is that Grant County’s problems are largely its own fault. For two decades, county officials refused to raise taxes. Instead, to make up for funding shortfalls, they dipped into reserves, draining them by some $2 million over the past eight years. “Over time, of course, if you don’t replace those reserves, you’re going to have a situation where you have a deficit,” says Jamie Baker, executive director of the county chamber of commerce.”

GOP crapanomics strikes again. Kansas learned this lesson the hard way too.

The difference between conservative economics and more moderate economics:

Cheyenne, Wyo. (pop 50,000) has less cash in reserve than my village (pop 128) because they dipped into their reserves. City residents there refused to allow tax or service rises for years.

The last time I read up on Cheyenne’s financial reserves (this month), the city was trying to reorganise (cut) to salvage its budget. They are hoping that reorganisation and tax cuts will save their city budget. (By comparison, we increased our water and sewer rates at our last meeting on the recommendation of outside economists.)

re: #88 Unshaken Defiance

It’s not a justice system when the county gov depends on jail/prison money to operate. It’s a criminal injustice fundraising mechanism at that point.

The Texas town of Iowa Colony specifically set itself up to run on fines. They are located about a half a mile off Texas state highway 288. The town incorporated several “finger strips” of land that crossed the highway between Houston and Freeport.

They then set up town cops to bust speeders on TX-288 when they would pass through a fifty-yard strip of Iowa Colony.

The setup was so egregious even Texas was appalled by that, and passed a law prohibiting municipalities from primarily raising revenue by setting up speed traps.

Oh, I don’t know. They’re a source of endless entertainment.

When I was a little girl we had a big female stray cat that I hung out with. Because I was a strange child, I named her The Morrigan.

It never failed. Some dumb-ass yapping dog would wander onto our street and go after her. She did not hiss. She did not growl. She puffed up her tail as a warning and waited.

They’d bark, ignored. Exploratory charges at her, ignored. Then they’d get right in her face and it was over. Claws, teeth, dog crying and running away. Every time. Chooser of the Slain.

Cornyn was more of a Cocker Spaniel today and Cruz was his usual ill-tempered, high-strung Chihuahua.

Damn, that was fun to watch.

The adult (mom, I assume) is almost a foot long at the carapace.

they aren’t dildos. they’re land trilobites!
