Colbert Reacts to Trump’s Latest Gaslighting Tweet: Russia Will Be Pushing for the Democrats!

Humor • Views: 35,720

YouTube

I post a lot of these Stephen Colbert clips because he’s pretty much in sync with my political mood lately — disgusted and appalled are now constant companions, and dark humor is the only way to react without going into full-on rage. And I honestly believe at this point that Colbert’s take on the news is more valuable and truthful than the majority of US media.

Donald Trump admitted that there’s a real threat the Russians will interfere in the midterm elections. And that he’s the victim.

Some good news I missed earlier.

Messitte’s 52-page opinion said that, in the modern context, the Constitution’s ban on emoluments could apply to Trump — and that it could cover any business transactions with foreign governments where Trump derived a “profit, gain or advantage.”

“This includes profits from private transactions, even those involving services given at fair market value,” Messitte wrote.

So I recieved an email of several hundred words from my GOP representative, Sean Duffy, toeing the party line on the assault on families seeking asylum. My reply was as follows:

I received your so-called reply.

You continue, in many meaningless words, to support an illegal and immoral policy on the boarder to destroy families _legally seeking asylum_ under international law.

They Are Not Illegal Immigrants. Decent Americans see through that lie.

You continue to spew the talking point lies of our illegitimate and traitorous president rather than doing your job and impeaching him for a myriad of high crimes. You are as evil as the rest of them and I pray - every day and at every mass - that you will need to actually find a job after November rather than continue to steal a paycheck from the taxpayers of this state and this nation.

GOP delenda est.

It’s taken me 18 months to get what trump is doing

1. Create Drama - friends with Russia, give them Crimea, drop the sanctions
then low and behold come out & blame President Obama for all of that & call Russia out for what they are doing

2. Create Drama - trade war with Europe
then - look at this - blame President Obama for problems in Europe and get rid of trade barriers
“US President Donald Trump has said the United States and the European Union are kicking off talks aimed at lowering trade barriers, as officials look to head off a brewing trade war”

So many more examples. He creates a problem, the media get their worried faces on - then he solves in and the media laud him with praise. This is how his approval stays at 40%

I just checked the Barnes & Noble Current Affairs & Politics Bestsellers list to see if Malcolm Nance’s book was doing well. The first three books are:

The Russia Hoax: The Illicit Scheme to Clear Hillary Clinton and Frame Donald Trump
by Gregg Jarrett
Liars, Leakers, and Liberals: The Case Against the Anti-Trump Conspiracy
by Jeanine Pirro
The Briefing: Politics, the Press, and the President (Signed Book)
by Sean Spicer

Jesus. It doesn’t get much better after that. A lot of stupid people buy their books from Barnes & Noble. Nance doesn’t show up until #28.

Spicer’s book is getting hammered on Amazon. Right now every review is either five stars or one star. No one’s remotely iffy about it.

Simple solution: Come out tomorrow and announce that the House Dems will not block the vote, but they also will not vote for the AoI. That if the GOP wants to have an impeachment fight right before the election over whether or not Rod Rosenstein has been sufficiently loyal to Dear Leader, then more power to them. There’s no chance of a conviction, but anything that stalls the GOP’s legislative agenda for the remainder of the year is welcomed.

The malodor of bullshit on this ludicrous impeachment “resolution” is gaggingly obvious, to say the least: from just that excerpt from Jeremy Diamond’s Twitter, Jordan’s and Meadows’ beef with Rosenstein seems to stem mainly from his (R.R’s) not providing them with information they asked for demanded (and IIRC, they were not automatically entitled to receive in the first place).

But as usual with today’s GOP: the Free Dumb Caucus can’t just file a resolution, they have to smear it with globs of sneery, self-righteous rhetoric that would sound like hyper-partisan BS coming from some RW basement-blogger, never mind Congressmen.

If Speaker Ryan had anything remotely approaching the political chops necessary for that position (SPOILER: he doesn’t), he’d give the HFC clowns a “decent” airing on the Floor, then refer this POS to the proper Committee or Subcommittee where he would insure it dies of neglect ASAP. But then, the incumbent Honorable Mr. Speaker Ryan of Wisconsin is a goddamn idiot, so he’ll probably leave this turkey flopping around the House for months, to maximize it’s embarrassment factor for the GOP even further. Job well done.

I’m not. Fox News has some real journalists working for them. Its primarily the opinion people like Carlson, Hannity and Fox & Friends who are Trump sycophants.

They are and have been a racist, sexist propaganda outlet and safe haven for corruption, sexual abuse and stochastic terrorism for years and not acknowledging the cancer is dangerous, especially to the people and social systems they target.

BTW, Googling “rosenstein impeachment” - I was trying to find out who the other nine of Jordan and Meadows’ co-sponsors are (no luck so far), I scanned a bunch of articles which lead me to believe that this whole thing is (shocking surprise!) a crock of PR-hunting grandstanding - probably aimed mainly at influencing the selection of Paul Ryan’s successor as House GOP Leader. That it will almost certainly be as Minority Leader, not Speaker seems not to be on their radar.
Anyway: 1) The form of the Free Dumb clowns’ resolution is a piece of parliamentary trickery to get around normal House rules on legislation. Historically unsuccessful, though. 2) Congress is adjourning for its summer recess a/o tomorrow, so there’s no time to do more than simply publicize this nonsense, and hope no one notices it’s gone nowhere when House and Senate reconvene.

ETA: Mis-read: “parliamentary trickery” was actually NOT used in this resolution: but it still makes it BS grandstanding (and unlikely to go anyplace)

LOLWUT?

Michael Cohen recorded a conversation he had with a reporter this year in which he said he arranged “on my own” a $130,000 payment in 2016 to a former adult-film star who alleged an affair with Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

In the nearly two-hour conversation with CNN reporter Chris Cuomo, which the people said appears to have been surreptitiously recorded by Mr. Cohen, the former Trump lawyer discussed at length the payment he arranged in October 2016, a month before the presidential election, to Stephanie Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels.

This is viral fuckery.

Sooner or later someone, somewhere will decide that a “very worthy and zealous” advocate of the expansion of slavery is probably not a suitable namesake for a 21st century city. I refer of course to Thomas Saltus Lubbock, noted bushwhacker, occasional Texas Ranger, and (most significantly) Knight of the Golden Circle. This pre-Civil War secret society promoted the conquest of all the lands around the Caribbean Sea, from Mexico to Venezuela, and their conversion to new slave states. Naturally they wanted to re-vitalize the African slave trade as well to fill all the new labor positions.
At the beginning of the Civil War, he traveled to Virginia and was given permission to form a “band of guerrillas” to fight behind Union lines. This would have been something like the infamous Quantrill’s Raiders but I have to wonder how they would have fared in the much more densely populated eastern theater. In any case, Lubbock contracted typhoid fever and died before he could see much action.

Alternative names:
Dunning-Krugerville
Strawmania
Galt’s Grift
or, more seriously,
Monterrey (This was the original name of the one of the two towns from which the city of Lubbock was formed, the other being Lubbock. When they combined, the new name was reputedly decided on the basis of a coin flip, and Lubbock won. Incredibly, there is no Monterrey in Texas now.)

If there weren’t two major military bases in the district, I could see them trying that. Interestingly, Arizona has about the least gerrymandered districts in the nation, since the legislature has no part in drawing them. They’re trying to get it back, but the change has to go through the voters, who hopefully won’t cede the power back to them.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Two New Jersey radio hosts are receiving heavy criticism for repeatedly referring to the state’s attorney general as “turban man” on air.

The Record reports WKXW-FM hosts Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco made the comments Wednesday while discussing Gurbir Grewal’s recent order to suspend marijuana prosecutions in the state.

Grewal is the country’s first Sikh-American attorney general.

Malloy and Franco acknowledged their words might be offensive, but Malloy said “if that offends you then don’t wear the turban and maybe I’ll remember your name.”

Jim Wright put it concisely a while back:
“I swear, I am increasingly convinced that at least half of America is completely bonkers. And by bonkers I mean crazy. Looney Tunes. Starkers. The kind of bat-shit, drooling, bug-eyed, barking at the moon, piss-drinking, smeared in their own excrement, self-mutilating insanity you get from eating a steady diet of lead paint chips and snorting Tester’s Model Cement straight from the tap.”

Despite Ms. Seema’s cheery take on Medicare, I’ve seen absolutely no difference in my care since going on Medicare. There are some changes in co-pays and whatnot, but the care is identical.

I think the odds of the GOP doing too much damage to Medicare are limited. The backlash from voters would be swift and brutal.

I’m facing the same possibility. My days as a teacher in China are numbered, as the province where I currently work is one of the last to lower the maximum working age from 65 to 60. So I am contemplating once again retirement, unless I can find suitable employment at 63.

At this point, everyone who isn’t a Trumpkin knows that nothing Trump says can be trusted. Everyone who IS a Trumpkin doesn’t care. Nothing will change if the NYT suddenly starts saying ‘lie’ instead of various synonyms.

To be nit picky, I don’t think there was any light when the Big Bang occurred, because it took awhile for stars to evolve.

Pretty sure the current thinking is shortly after inflation the very early universe was basically full of a hot, dense, bright plasma. The remnants of which we currently detect as the cosmic microwave background. So there would have been light long before there were stars.
