Sorting through keyboards trying to find what still works, and this pops up.
I’m recycling/scrapping a few cheap keyboards because one of the cats chewed through the USB cables of them. Took one apart to see what the chances were of doing a splice or other fix and realized that the USB cable is split and soldered directly to the circuit board in the keyboard. Everything else is mechanical and works fine of course.
(A more complex repair would not be cost effective given the cost of getting a replacement from a store - or a thrift shop given the one I grabbed the day after the cat chewed up a cable.)

Trump doesn’t care that there are facts involved, like that windows are awful insulators and that reducing glass exposure on buildings can help improve the building’s efficiency. You can use other materials and/or higher efficiency glass to make structures that are far more efficient.
In other words, it’s akin to pushing towards LEED platinum standards that should be the goal for every building.

House Democratic leaders sparred internally on Monday over whether to begin an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her allies rejecting the call to move forward for now, according to multiple sources.
Reps. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Joe Neguse of Colorado — all members of Democratic leadership — pushed to begin impeachment proceedings during a leadership meeting in Pelosi’s office, said the sources. Pelosi and Reps. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Cheri Bustos of Illinois — some of her key allies — rejected their calls, saying Democrats’ message is being drowned out by the fight over possibly impeaching Trump.
Raskin — a former law professor — said he wasn’t advocating impeaching Trump but suggested that opening an impeachment inquiry would strengthen their legal position while allowing Democrats to move forward with their legislative agenda.
Pelosi dismissed this argument, asking Raskin whether he wanted to shut down the other five committees working on Trump investigations in favor of the Judiciary Committee.
“You want to tell Elijah Cummings to go home?” Pelosi quipped, referring to the chairman of the Oversight and Reform Committee.
And in a Democratic Steering and Policy Committee meeting, Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee stood up and demanded Trump’s impeachment. Pelosi then countered, “This is not about politics, it’s about what’s best for the American people,” said a member who attended the meeting.
While Pelosi and her top Democrats argue that a majority of House Democrats don’t want to impeach Trump, she is under growing pressure from some of her most hard-line members to move more forcefully against the president.

She’s trying to balance the competing interests of the caucus, retaining the House, trying to take the Senate, and the WH.
That’s a lot to balance compared with the overall sheer volume of crimes committed by Trumpworld and Trump personally. Given the way Trumpworld continues to obstruct justice and refuse to follow subpoenas or court orders, she’s appearing to be dragging her feet towards impeachment, when these are the actions that are themselves impeachable offenses.
My guess is that impeachment will get underway over the summer because that seems to be following the timeline of Watergate. The refusal to submit to questions and withholding key information is a sign that Trumpworld knows that this information would be highly damaging to Trump, and that it isn’t protected by privilege.

I appreciate where you’re coming from, however, I disagree. The more political calculation is is made vs a moral imperative the less persuasive (I think) your case becomes. This issue has a shelf life. Most people have not/will not read the entire Mueller report. Trump and his enablers keep shouting “no collusion/no obstruction” while stonewalling Congress. Sure, the courts may rule against them… someday. However, if your play is simply run out the clock before the elections, many people will have moved on. Democrats may be in for a rude surprise when some folks simply give up on them - and the entire process.

I’m pretty much here. Shit seems to be spiraling out far faster than this slow burn toward impeachment strategy she’s banking on seems to allow. Trump is quickly building a bulwark against any sort of accountability and has the DoJ ready to sweep up anyone failing the loyalty test. They need to act NOW, and decisively so.

If she is, then impeachment will never be an option. Right now, most of the public does not want impeachment. We’re sitting at about the same levels we were when the Saturday Night Massacre occurred. Congress began investigations and that number climbed over the summer to the point that impeachment of Nixon became popular.
If I were in Pelosi’s shoes, I would be privately telling everyone who wants impeachment to keep yelling about it, but don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t happen immediately, because the yelling will keep it alive.

Dressbarn is closing all of its stores.
The women’s retailer announced Monday “plans to commence a wind-down of its retail operations, including the eventual closure of its approximately 650 stores.”
Stores remain open along with the Dressbarn website, the company said in a statement.
“For more than 50 years, Dressbarn has served women’s fashion needs, and we thank all of our dedicated associates for their commitment to Dressbarn and our valued customers,” said Steven Taylor, Dressbarn chief financial officer, in a statement. “This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment.”

I wasn’t paying a lot of attention at the time, but I remember hundreds of American surgeons traveling to Kiev, calls here for everybody of Eastern European descent to donate bone marrow for transplants, to save as many as could be saved. And that letting those American doctors come in to do that was a big-deal opening to the Soviet people seeing the US in a new light, starting the process towards the collapse of the USSR.

The Law requires local school board approval and the teachers need to go through a weapons training course before they are eligible. Most school boards have not approved it, and since the bill was signed a week ago, I doubt anyone has gone through the training course yet.

It makes it excruciatingly hard to watch.
The interesting thing was how the miners actually were requisitioned to do the work and how their leader tried to do right by his people.
In the end, they never had to implement the cooling system, because the reactor never melted all the way down - they filled in the tunnel built with concrete and called it a day.
But at the time, they didn’t know that.
My favorite character in this increasingly hard-to-watch series is the head of the miners. His taunt: “You don’t have enough bullets to shoot us all and the survivors will beat the living shit out of you” struck home for me; I worked in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, etc., and that guy was the epitome of the “hard as a coffin nail” blue-collar Ūdarniki I came to know.
They’re not afraid of a goddam thing. They won’t back down if you point the entire Red Army at them, because that’s their daily life.
All of them patting the mining apparatchik on his delicate robins-egg blue suit to muss it up was perfect.
We need more of this attitude in the modern Democratic party. My grampa sure as fuck had it, after the Depression spent slaving in the lumber camps for the WPA.
