Since the group that are the current representatives of the Republican Party arenât budging an inch from supporting Trump, even after his lieutenantsâ bragging about their breaking multiple laws and Trump himself all but declaring himself dictator, the only bridge that they havenât crossed yet is the purge of opposition via arrest (or worse). Even that is already in various stages of being begun already.
Every last GOPer was in the loop and knew Trump was engaging in criminal wrongdoing. His own lawyers knew, and theyâre the ones out there lying on behalf of Trump.
State bar officials should take notice of every last GOPer who is going for this nonsense that they should consider disbarring every last GOP lawyer over failing as officers of the court and upholding their oaths and obligations.
This includes in no particular order: Dershowitz, Cippilone, and Bondi. And the GOP Senators who are backing this crap.

No witnesses and Republicans behaving like absolute shitbirds in the impeachment trial was always exactly what to expect, down to the exact votes McConnell lets stray, who gets their moments of pretended moderation in the press, and the disgusting protection of the GOPâs main judicial fixer, CJ Roberts.

to be honest, SCJ Roberts isnât exactly deserving of much respect⌠if he was taking the proceedings seriously, Senators would have been seated and they would have at least been made to spend time paying attention to the testimony. He wouldnât have allowed certain âjurorsâ to have even been seated due to their disqualifying statements before any evidence had even been presented.
You want to be treated with respect, then show some to the office you hold. iâm gonna actually amend this
if you donât call it a lie, you are omitting material facts.
By omitting material facts, you have written a story that is not accurate.
You have created ânewsâ but not news.
that news you are creating is, in fact, fake news.
why?
because what you reported is not what happened.
if your stories are so ambiguous that youâre leaving it to the reader to research every aspect of every story you write, then youâre not in the news business any longer.
re: #147 #thegreatpoolpondconversion (dangerman)
agreed, they canât even do a sham properly. Part of the trouble is, there was absolutely zero to exonerate Trump with and treating the whole affair with the seriousness that it deserved involved morals and ethics and an understanding of the law, well the GOP certainly couldnât have that.
Theyâve made their political calculation and now, as Americans, weâll hopefully be able to execute our franchise of the ballot and see where that goes.
Myself, if Trump wanted heads on pikes, he may just may get that wish if I read the undernotes of seething that is taking place, not a proponent of mob rule, but when the people who have made the laws and abide by them find that their leaders are declaring themselves no longer subject to them⌠well bad things tend to happen as a result of that.

Assuming we find some way to get out of the Trump years and still have a representative democracy, thereâs the larger problem of an electorate that is at least 30% hard core shitvoters and another 30% of mindless weathervanes that can vote with the shitvoters for the most stupid and frivolous reasons.

Ah, good olâ Morgan Robertson.
Thereâs a subset of people who are like âOMG, he predicted Titanic!â and although the similarities between both his fictional incident and the real Titanic are striking, there are significant differences (for example, there were only 13 survivors in the book, compared to over 700 on the real Titanic).
But Robertson had extensive experience at sea and knew a lot about shipbuilding. In other words, he was very familiar with industry trends at the time and where the potential shortcomings were.
Itâd be like if a veteran chemist wrote a fictional account of a Texas Chemical Plant with lax safety standards that ends up going boom.

Itâs not going to be the fact that Trump was âacquittedâ or the precedents set that will be so much salt in the wound, but rather the insistence that Manchin and/or Jones putting their âbipartisanâ stamp on it means that it must be legit because âIf Democrats voted against it, then it must mean the House failed to make their case!â
This is why my biggest hope in this whole process has always been that Manchin, Jones et al. do the right thing and vote with the rest of the Democrats.
Thereâs a huge difference between a message of âCorrupt POTUS skates on all charges on a party-line voteâ and a message of âBipartisan Senate exonerates Trump.â

It makes little sense, but itâs literally the only way to prevent a resumption of The Troubles. As far as I can tell, itâs placing a bet that de facto Irish reunification will get fewer Orangist terrorists in Belfast and Dublin than re-arming the marchlands will get in Liverpool and London.
It is is too bad that it has to remain de facto, because the Tories are so obsessed at perpetuating an illusion of a UK that is anything other than England.

They have been willing to sacrifice an ally to Russian domination, a signal to the Kremlin and others that we are feckless friends. Voters should be forewarned that neither the legislative branch nor executive branch can be entrusted to this crowd.
⢠Americans who actually adhere to conservative beliefs should give up the fantasy that the GOP can be rescued. In not only electing and defending Trump but also shredding long-held constitutional principles, it poses a threat to the rule of law, equal justice under the law and the American creed (âAll men âŚâ). Their energies are best spent in the short run trying to nominate and help elect a centrist Democrat and then creating a principled center-right party from the ground up.
⢠The country needs to have a robust discussion about the electoral college, the Senate filibuster, the defects in the impeachment process, firewalls between the White House and the Justice Department, the power to indict sitting presidents, the War Powers Act, statutory emergency powers (which Trump has abused) and voting rights. (When Republicans hear that presidential contender Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has a long list of executive orders ready to go, perhaps they will reflect on the path to tyranny they have paved.)

10th grade for me was 2002-3 so I want to say we ended perhaps with Apartheid or the Gulf War but we really rushed things a little after WWII ended. I donât blame my teacher, who was a capable guy but it was rushed. And I know a lot of what I know because I always try to learn more about the subjects that I learn about. WWI in 7th grade made me want to read All Quiet on the Western Front for example.
12th grade for me was 1977-8 (I missed mandatory history class in 11th grade because I was out of the country that year). We got as far as the end of WW2.

12th grade for me was 2001-2002. We covered the Gulf War and the fall of the Soviet Union⌠then we lived history in the fall. Mine was the Class of 9/11.

At this point, do we even know which side of the border Trump plans to put the land mines on? Heâs alienated so much else of the rural vote, can his vote totals afford to emplace booby traps half a mile onto American soil instead of Mexican?
(Yes, I know thatâs an act of war. The Confederacy may have no way to maintain air superiority thanks to the F-35 being the worst warplane built in 70 years, but they also have more tanks than Mexico has men and women under arms, so I think theyâre not worried about that just yet and may actively want to drive Obrador to war).

I think thereâs gotta be a way to focus more on that time period. The problem is of course that may leave less time for the early history which is also important. Now in 6/7 grade, we divided history. It was US history until Reconstruction and then from Reconstruction on. 8th was Civics. 9/10 World history to the Renascence and then the Present. 11th was just US and definitely rushed. 12th was Government. I dunno. THereâs gotta be a better way of how we teach our history.

I was never high on the F-35 to begin with. The F/A-18 was the closest thing to a truly universal aircraft. Otherwise, the various air roles are too different in flight and munitions profiles to truly reconcile in a single one-size-fits-all plane. And in trying to engineer the perfect interceptor/air superiority/ground support aircraft, they got a steaming pile of outlandishly expensive garbage.

This. The only present restraint on further Trump/Republican steps toward a full dictatorship is the belief by the powers that be that this would be bad for business.
But what would make it bad for business is only the resulting political unrest. No unrest = no problems for the powers that be. Capitalism can do just fine with an arbitrarily repressive political system, as long as itâs basically right-wing.
