Stay Away

Venus in sweatpants
That’s who you are
And when this mess is over
I’ll buy you a car
We’ll drive that car
So fast and so far
All your stupid friends
Will be left behind

Stay away from me
Baby, keep your distance, please
Stay away from me
Words of love in times like these
I’m gonna be with you 24 hours a day
A lot of people couldn’t stand that
But you can
You’ll be with me 24 hours a day
What a lucky man I am

Stay away from me
Wash your hands
Don’t touch your face
How do you like that
Wash your hands
Don’t touch your face
I saw you
Thirty years together
And we’re still having fun
Once we were two,
Now we are one
Let’s go out and get a burger
When you’re done, you’re done
Memories of the past

Be kind to one another
Tell her you love her every day
If you’re angry about something, let it go
If the kids are frightened, tell them not to be afraid
But don’t let them touch your face
Don’t let them touch your face

Maybe tomorrow I will make a sponge cake “from scratch” if we use up all the box mix.

lawhawk  Apr 12, 2020 • 1:17:14pm

Greets and saluts this Easter Sunday. My thoughts are with all my friends who are self-isolating and trying to keep their families and friends safe from the scourge known as covid19. This is the kind of holiday where one would normally share with family in dinners, prayer, and parades, but this year is different than every other year. It shares something in common with Passover - the need for a virulent plague to pass over us without doing any harm.

Sadly, for more than 22,000 Americans that isn’t the case. They lost their lives because the know nothing Trump ignored the experts and listened to his usual chorus of sycophants to ignore the covid19 threat. We have Trumpists suddenly spewing claptrap about wonder treatments and how herd immunity will save us, when neither of those things are going to happen anytime soon.

To get herd immunity, you need to get a significant percentage of people in a group to have immunity so that they can’t pass it on to those who haven’t had it. No where on earth has gotten to that point. Had we seen that - the death toll would have soared far higher than we’ve already seen to date (lies from China included). This is basic stuff, but all these fucknuts got their expertise at Trump U or Praeger U.

It shows.

Same with wonder treatments. Touting random drugs as the panacea might make people feel better, but it takes time to prove whether any of it is actually helping (or harming). Thus far, we’re not seeing creditable double blind studies that are rigorously vetted. We are seeing Trumpists engaging in illegal and unethical conduct by giving these drugs to patients without them knowing that they’re participating in studies, or claiming no risks, when there are serious risk of harms involved.

Again, all of this is contra to actual public health expert guidance. It’s about trying to deflect from Trump’s absolute and complete failure to deal with covid19 for months. They had first warnings dating back to November. Trump did nothing. January? Nothing. February? Nothing.

Even Trump’s touted travel ban was all smoke and mirrors as 40,000 flew back and forth between US, China, and Europe without consistent screening. Even then, everyone was funneled together, so that the sick and healthy mixed together without realizing it.

And then there was all those domestic flights with no screening at all. Nothing before taking off. Nothing after. This allowed covid19 to spread far and wide. We had millionaires fleeing NYC metro area to the hinterlands, and spread it to places with few resources to deal with an outbreak. We had people in Canada going to remote Native American towns, only to infect people there.

The GOP are a threat to all humanity. Their policies are inhumane and malicious.

Their latest target? The Postal Service.

Save the USPS.

Fuck the GOP.

Here is an update from United Hatzalah about Eli Beer, who was put on a ventilator on March 22!

Eli Beer, in case you don’t know, saved Z’s life when he had a hypoglycemic episode aboard an airplane.

Dear Supporters and Friends of United Hatzalah,

We are thrilled to share the news that Eli Beer was taken off the ventilator at the University of Miami Hospital on Thursday, the first day of Pesach! He is now breathing on his own, was able to communicate with his family and even began physical therapy — where he was able to identify himself as a medic to the physical therapist. He has now tested negative twice for COVID-19, so the virus appears to have left his system. As a result of that, he is being moved out of the COVID-19 ICU unit into the surgical ICU unit.

This is the start of what will be a long recovery, but it is the beginning and what we have been praying for and working towards over the past four weeks.

My dogs know every commercial that has a critter in them and they post themselves in front of the TV as soon as they hear one. They bark at each — and the barking is different depending on the type of dog or critter and what it’s doing. If a dog walks off screen to the left or right, the will circle behind the TV to see where it went.

Just finished _Apartment in Athens_ by Glenway Wescott. This book manages to encompass, mostly in the dramatic space of a two-bedroom apartment in Athens in 1943, the absolute depravity of Nazi Germany and its followers, while adding a powerful redemptive moment for several characters (not the fucking Nazi, thank you very much).

That’s funny! My dog has no interest in the TV, but does jump on the bed when I’m trying to read lizard comments and tries to shut the laptop to get me to focus on her. When that doesn’t work she straddles me and licks my face until I finally shut it myself and play with her.

Sure, credible accuser.

/////

Honestly, I think it’s easier to discredit her without bringing in the Putin/Russia business, though the lies about such only further damages her credibility. When you’re dealing with allegations going back this far, where there is no physical evidence and no eyewitnesses, the most you can count on to convince people of the veracity of your claims is your credibility. Which is likely why she avoided actually putting Joe’s name on the criminal complaint, as last thing she wants is to actually have the validity of her claims tested in a court where lying carries more than just public shaming.

Wait a sec: Tara Reade didn’t put Joe Biden’s name on that so-well-publicized “complaint”?
So who did she claim violently groped her in a Senate hallway back in 1993? “Senator X”??

Apparently she left it nameless, but told the NYT that A) the unnamed attacker was intended to be Joe and B) she filed the complaint because she wanted a “paper trail” in case something happened to her.

Oh, OK, then.

I was afraid it might be something that would impugn the credibility of her accusation….

Makes me think of the scene in Little Women where Laura Dern’s generally happy character says to her daughter who wonders why she isn’t ever angry: “I’m angry every day” but has to hide that anger.

Here is an update from United Hatzalah about Eli Beer, who was put on a ventilator on March 22!

Eli Beer, in case you don’t know, saved Z’s life when he had a hypoglycemic episode aboard an airplane.

Bravo!
A tough man is Eli Beer.
