Responding to a few things from the other thread:

re: #111 Colère Tueur de Lapin

Literally no one doesn’t understand that a test result is only a “slice in time” that doesn’t change the fact that it is useful and important data. That professor is an ass.

re: #113 Barefoot Grin

Isn’t that whole fucking point of testing?

re: #116 Anymouse 🌹🏡

Might as well not look at a clock, because that only gives you a slice of time as well.

And if that’s the argument for not testing for Covid-19, why do we test for tuberculosis, X-ray for broken bones, draw blood samples for a glucose meter for diabetes?

The argument the professor is making justifies frequent widespread testing until the disease is under control, not what they think it justifies.

Unfortunately, I think the director in question got fucked by the framing of the article. It honestly sounds like they’re saying that tests are fallible and also only tell the now, rather than the future. It doesn’t seem to make any actual agreement with Trump’s idiocy, and only does so shoved into the context of the article trying to launder Trump’s dipshittery. There’s nothing wrong with saying a test is fallible and doesn’t promise future protection. It doesn’t mean what Trump says though, that tests are useless precisely because they don’t promise immunity or don’t tell the future.

There were racists FB posts in the tens of thousands about never eating at Subway again if they had to see her face in the restaurant. Why do racists like Subway so much?

Here’s something else I thought about. We all have been amused and entertained by the ads created by the Never Trump crew over at The Lincoln Project. They are excellent attack ads. (They should be. They come from the shop that sank Senator Max Cleland by using Osama bin Laden against him.) With any luck, they’ll work. Here’s my idea, though. How about the gang at The Lincoln Project take a few days and put together one of these brilliant ads opposing ratfcking, legal and otherwise, and all other forms of voter-suppression, which not only will be a significant weapon in the president*’s arsenal, but also was a significant factor in his election in several swing states. It also was one of those tactics that made this president*—or someone like him—not only possible, but inevitable. C’mon, gang. Abe would’ve wanted it this way.

I’ve encountered 3 snow squalls today in Bergen County as part of this weird weather Saturday.

Twice, they were sun squalls - as part of the area was bathed in sun, and squalls of snow hit. The third time looked like Winter was Coming and was a few minutes from sticking. Yeah, it was coming down quite hard for a few minutes.

And it’ll be 80 by the end of the week. Perfectly normal.

But at least I got what outdoor work I wanted done today - edging planting beds, and finished work on a stack stone retaining wall. I might do some touch up adjustments, but It’s pretty well done.

Pennsyltucky has the smartest and brightest and most educated LEO.

I don’t care when they open, bars, restaurants, etc. Not going. Fuck no.
Fuck. No.
2 people took their masks off in the back aisle of a Weis Markets the other day 10 feet from me.
Then I went to pick up a case of beer.
2 people walked in before me.
No masks.
2 people came in behind me.
No masks.
I asked the one guy working wtf was up.
He said to me his boss told him only the employees need to wear masks.
I told him his boss was lying to him. And not only that, he doesn’t give a fuck about you. Or me. And I also said I’m taking it personal, and fuck off.
So I called up the police desk.
Got Dickless Tracy on the horn.
“Not if it’s a medical necessity.” Nope. No “medical reasons stated”.
Well he don’t know.
So I said “You sitting answering calls for city police and you this fucking stupid?
Thanks for nothing.”

And today…..Cut and paste here. From my favorite shit site. Facebook.
QUOTE:
Good afternoon,

I posted a statement on the position of the Snyder County Sheriff’s Office on April 20, 2020 in regards to the operations of the SCSO and the Governor’s orders during the Covid-19 pandemic. However we have received messages recently from those that may not have seen the earlier post.

The primary mission of the SCSO is to protect life and property by enforcing laws that are passed by the legislature and a part of the PA crimes code. We will NOT be enforcing executive orders that are unconstitutional and we will NOT be making criminals out of businesses that are trying to provide for their families and their employees families.

I encourage everyone to take the appropriate precautions to keep you and your family safe and healthy. I take this stand on behalf of the SCSO but I do not speak for other agencies such as the municipal police or the state police. I support a healthy Snyder County, however I also support a strong economy and freedom for law abiding citizens.

Huffpo

An expert in disaster preparedness has accused President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence of failing to grasp the fact that they are role models amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Irwin Redlener, who leads Columbia University’s National Center for Disaster Preparedness, on Friday noted to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace how some Americans were now ignoring social distancing guidelines aimed at slowing the spread of the contagion that’s so far killed more than 77,000 people nationwide.

Redlener suggested they were taking their cues from Trump and Pence. The White House is pushing to reopen the economy, despite advice from public health experts. Trump has also hyped unproven treatments for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, and said he can’t see himself wearing a face mask. On Friday, he appeared to question the value of widespread testing for the virus, a measure that is widely seen as key in the fight to suppress it.

“I think a lot of that stems from people saying, ‘Oh, I just saw the president on TV, he’s not wearing a mask and he says we should be getting back to business,’” said Redlener.

“I don’t think they grasp the impact of what they do and what they say on the American public,” Redlener continued. “Even though his popularity is dropping and his ignorance is showing full-scale, I still think he’s the president and he and the vice president are a role model and really, really terrible role models in this horrendous pandemic, unfortunately

One of my husband’s cousins called this evening. He is 75, with some health issues. As RW as they come. But he married a woman from Poland who was a nurse there. She went back to school so that she could nurse here, and is still working, and she is caring for nothing but COVID-19 patients, suburban Chicago. He says they have their protocol: she changes out of scrubs at work, puts on another set of clothes. Comes home, leaves her shoes in the garage, goes straight up and puts her clothes in the laundry and takes a shower. Then comes down and they can visit. Says it is very stressful and scary, and I believe it. She has to be mid-60s herself.

“Author Leanne Brown came up with the idea for a cookbook to help people learn to cook — not just frugally, but deliciously — on their public benefits, and what started as a thesis project in graduate school wound up as the James Beard Award-winning 2015 book “Good & Cheap: Eat Well on $4 a Day.” (Brown offers the book as a free pdf in English and Spanish.)”

Just for the record (I’m sure you know), the reason CA elections take an ungodly long time to certify is that we check every signature on every ballot. Go ahead and whine, Repugs.

My ward leader pinged me yesterday that he was picking up my application for a mail-in ballot. He came and looked over everything and said as he was leaving tell me when it comes in.

There are a lot of reasons to rag on Bill Gates, but to claim you are not going to use a vaccine that doesn’t exist and he will not invent seems even stupid by Republican standards.

Answering from the last thread:
re: #156 LeftyRambles2413 (HappyWarrior)

Fortunately they are fringe but A) I don’t like their arrogant claim to speak for the left and B) I think they have a disdain for the democratic process that needs to be called out and C) they play the same games the Trumpers do.

And D) the disabled community will be ignored again. The only political job I have is my appointment on the city’s Commission on Disabilities, which I’ve had for 11 years.

There’s a reason I won’t participate further in politics, other than voting. PWD’s have gotten so much shit from alleged “allies’ for trying to volunteer for campaigns, that it’s almost not worth it.

Except for the hash oil chocolate bars I can no longer find, edibles usually don’t do it for me. I have what I assume is moderately high tolerance but I don’t think that’s the problem. So I got two bags of gummies, one bag sativa, one bag indica. 10 mg THC per gummie so I ate 15 of them just now.
Eventually, I will know if they are working…
