I am very hopeful that Texas, Ohio and Georgia will turn blue on Tuesday based on my phone banking. We’re adding Kansas, Montana and Alaska to the mix now.

I do not give a fuck if Murdoch’s Sky network is saying Trump will get > 300 electoral votes. I will not go down without fighting even though I know my home state is lost to Trump.

I think there’s definitely a state that will catch us all by surprise on Tuesday. Missouri is another small possibility.

Mormons are making the same mistake as right wing Catholics in thinking that radical Christians won’t turn on them.

It’s only a matter of time before Dominionists turn on Catholic and Mormon heretics!

In Mormon culture style matters. How can someone as uncouth as Trump get the majority of their vote? I mean, I don’t expect most to vote Dem, but Trump?

As the saying goes, the plural of anecdote isn’t data.

I’ll take your anecdotal encounters with what I’m guessing are voters somewhere in the T of Pennsylvania or in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, and I’ll reiterate that while THEY may be lost to us this cycle, there’s hard data of almost inconceivably high voter registration numbers in Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Those new voters don’t care about fracking or about the crypto-racist RW culture wars. They want what Biden and the Dems are offering, and MY bet is that they’re here for us in numbers this year that will more than drown what you’re getting in your calling.

Serious question I hope you can answer: when you’re calling PA, are you hitting 724 and 814 and 570 country (the T)? Or are you getting the Trump entrenchment from people in 215 and 610 and 412?

Started watching the rally just now. I’m at the part where Obama’s mic cut out. Heh. He’s making light of it. Can you imagine how Trump would react. Haha

We know exactly how he reacts:

From 2016:

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Wednesday ranted about a poorly working microphone at a campaign rally, pledging not to pay the “bastard” who set it up. “Whoever the hell brought this mic system, don’t pay the son of the bitch,” Trump said during a speech in Pensacola, Fla.

From 3 days ago:

Trump has had some audio issues at his first campaign rally of the day in Bullhead, Arizona, partly to do the wind.

“Whoever did this microphone, don’t pay him. You know I have a reputation for not paying. And it’s a false reputation,” Trump said.

“Its probably a RINO that’s operating it,” Trump joked. Earlier in the event he called RINOs the “lowest form of human life.”

Fella I’ve been getting what the program sends me and it’s a mix of all of them. 724 includes my home county (Beaver) that has turned into Jesusland. I am also calling the 878 (Mix 412/724) 270 (combines with 570) 484 (combines with 610) and 267 (combines with 215). The Trump tilt is showing up on all area codes. People saying they are late deciders say the Philadelphia riots are the reason they’re voting for Trump. Fracking is showing up in 724, lots of Jesusbot talk in the T as well.

It’s a telling insight into the talking-heads on cable TV… that they avoid the obvious.

Trump has made it clear - Biden is going to “hurt God”.

I understand why Biden doesn’t want to tackle this issue, and Harris too.

But where are the Democrats pointing out that the reason Trump has any support at all is because fundamentalist Christians are in an end-times theocracy frenzy?

It’s not their language, it’s not their clothing, it’s not their choice in TV-networks that are the problem with the Trumpers.

It’s their religion.

But find a Democrat who is willing to say that publicly… go, try.

re: #82 The Pie Overlord!

I know that if such a thing were to happen in Philly those so-called “ballots” would be the ones that are thrown out. The mail-in process starts with a request for a ballot which is checked up against a list of registered voters. Name, address and registration must match then a mail-in ballot is mailed to the person who requested it. Once it is completed it must be post marked by Nov 3rd or handed directly to the County Commissioners.

Not that I’m necessarily in favor of firing on our own brethren, but I refuse to subscribe to the idea that we should just roll over and let them be violent terrorists and get away with whatever they want. Yeah—that’s because:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 24, 2020) - South Carolinians voting absentee by mail must now have their signatures on ballot return envelopes witnessed after the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals today issued an order reversing a lower court’s ruling. On September 19th, the United States District Court ordered the witness requirement to be suspended for the 2020 General Election. The Fourth Circuit order stays the District Court order.

I wish I had thought of shit like this before sending mine in without a witness signature. I witnessed Mrs. Fish’s, at her insistence; it seems like she must be prescient. If Biden wins my focus won’t be at Trumpers online. It will be on all the newly elected and existing, transfer of power, policy, etc. Pressuring them to rebuild our democracy, and if need be, investigate anything illegal and provide due process. We know there will be calls to downplay crimes or skulduggery. Nothing is more detrimental to democracy than enforcing laws consistently, except maybe the act of crimes themselves.

There is a lot of work ahead. Part of the rebuilding process will be to shore up the damaged justice system. Veangence won’t fix things. The rule of law being enforced will.

But that is just avoiding the problem.

The problem is existential-crises in Americans.

And now these in-crisis Americans are acting out, increasingly violently.

I wish I had thought of shit like this before sending mine in without a witness signature. I witnessed Mrs. Fish’s, at her insistence; it seems like she must be prescient. With all that said, it doesn’t appear that Minnesota is in any danger of having their mail-in voting extension or witness signature suspension overturned or stayed in the next two days.

It was such a clusterfuck here, I cancelled my absentee ballot request and voted early in-person.

I know in the big scheme of things, like the possible end of our country, this is a minor thing, but I’m really wondering how they’ll record absentee/early-in person voting here, as far as noting them by precinct. In a “normal” election, absentee votes are just all ganged together and not sorted by precinct in the state’s reports. If they do that for this election, it will be almost impossible to do any kind of analysis after the fact—i.e. determining turnout, seeing which precincts went blue/red etc.

I know, total nerd issue, but it can be pretty important going forward.

I heard that the Republicans had filed some lawsuits here, but there was never enough noise about it that it came across as any serious threat. I was never anxious about my ballot, except for the slowdown in the USPS, but my ballot arrived in plenty of time for us to fill them out, return them, and ensure that they were accepted and awaiting counting. Now they rest in a Hennepin County jail cell until Tuesday.

Check the counterargument from Professor Morley up in comment 45.

The problem with Professor Morley’s counterargument is that he forgets that every judge on the Texas Supreme Court was put there by a Republican, and there are almost no judges at the state level who aren’t hard-right. Do not forget even for a moment that it was the Texas judiciary that gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act that opened the door for the US Supreme Court. If there is a way for them to deny a non-white person the right to vote, they WILL find it.

This article is great:

At the center of much of this creative coordination is Wisconsin’s Ben Wikler, chair of the state party Democrats, who was focused on comedy two decades ago, writing for the Onion and working for Al Franken on his books and radio show, before rising in the political world. Now, his state party is the leading beneficiary of these fundraisers, raising more than $7 million since August, part of the $58.7 million it’s reportedly brought in over the past two years…

Wikler, who is such a “Princess Bride” obsessive that he memorized the script as a child. “I convinced my homeroom teacher in sixth grade to do a screening for our class and mouthed the words throughout the entire thing. I quoted the marriage blessing as my toast at my sister’s wedding,” he says. “So for me, the idea of having a ‘Princess Bride’ reunion to support the Democratic Party was a dream within a dream, to quote the movie.”

I’m 66, and was tear gassed by the Austin police during protests over the bombing of Cambodia. They didn’t bother to wade through the predominantly peaceful crowd and arrest the dozen or so trying to break into and occupy the U.T. Tower (never mind the 50 campus cops inside). They just wanted to play with their riot gear, so they kettled the crowd with their shields, gas masks in place, and immediately popped tear gas. It promptly rolled downhill into every business along Guadalupe street. Total overkill.

COLUMBIA, S.C. On September 19th, the United States District Court ordered the witness requirement to be suspended for the 2020 General Election. The Fourth Circuit order stays the District Court order.

absentee ballot site claims that through a certain period, ballots were counted with no witness. I don’t know enough about Ruby Ridge to comment. Waco. Clearly the BD were the “not good people” in that situation. I’m not sure it was handled the way it should have though.

Even so.

There’s what 2 times riot police going against a crowd where the crowd were actually clearly wrong-doers? Versus decades of attacking with tear gas, pepper spray, fire hoses, etc and just straight up beating workers rights protests, racial equality protests, war protesters, people protesting fascists.

I think it was October 7 that it could be without a witness, but they made such a big deal when the lower court dropped the requirement (before the US attorney stuck his nose in—probably McCoy—the one who’s trying to challenge the SC Supremes’ 5-0 vote against McMaster wanting to give Care money to private schools) that it was pretty confusing.

I wish Democrats would do a better job of denouncing the violence that is going on right now surrounding the election. My sister in Canada is expecting rightwing groups to go buck wild on election night. I couldn’t disagree with her although I assume the violence will be limited to certain parts of the country. Sigh.

I think you mean Republicans. This is all on them and Trump. Democrats denouncing it won’t mean crap. This needs to be placed on the people inciting it.

I just discovered when making salad, chop up stuff, add some dried herbs like parsley, pepper, and oregano (not a lot), toss, then leave in the fridge for an hour or two.

Then you bring out and mix with dressing right before serving. The herbs suck up some water/juices from the sliced stuff.

How come nunya told me this?

Definitely Texas for the blue. Meanwhile Sky network in Australia was 100% wrong with its RW pick for the Queensland (state) election - so you do well to ignore them.

Nothing changed. We haven’t had an A poll since October 20, and it had Kelly at 48 percent and McSally at 42 percent.

What i can tell you is that EVERY FUCKING COMMERCIAL on Phoenix TV channels is political. There’s a Trump commercial (paid for by the RNC). There’s a Biden commercial. There’s a Kelly commercial. There’s a McSally commercial. Then another Kelly commercial. Then a Biden commercial not paid for by the Biden campaign. And occasionally we get an O’Halleran (Dem incumbent) commercial or a Hiral Tiperneni commercial against Rep. David Schweikert. Commercial after commercial after commercial. And of course my brother insists on watching two fucking hours of news. November 2 cannot come soon enough.

So as a way to ignore politics, I’m working on my budget spreadsheet. After rent. the bills and Christmas present for the ex are paid, I’ll have a bit of fun money left. I’m pondering a couple of options:

1) Amazon - a Jasmine S35 acoustic guitar w/ gig bag and a song book

2) Ebay - parts to max out my Sun Blade 2500 Silver workstation

3) KEH - an Olympus 17/2.8 lens to replace one I shouldn’t have sold.

4) Atlanta Cutlery - a Kukri Mk III as made for the Royal Army by Windlass.

Highlights my hobbies doesn’t it? Ah decisions decisions…

And I’m going to keep pointing out that voter registration and early turnout in Philadelphia is off the charts - in a city that delivered 86% of its votes to Clinton in 2016. A net gain of 100,000 or more votes in Philly is way more than enough to outweigh any net shift to Trump (if there really is any) in more rural areas.

I haven’t seen Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) numbers yet, but if they’re anywhere near as good as Philadelphia, it’s a very good sign.
