Caroline Shaw & Sō Percussion perform “To the Sky,” from their new album, ‘Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part,’ out now on Nonesuch Records: http://smarturl.it/letthesoil. Filmed at Bok in Philadelphia.

Director: Maureen Towey
Producer: Justus McLarty
Director of Photography / Editor: Evan Chapman (Four/Ten Media)

‘Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part’ is an album of songs written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion. With Shaw on vocals and Sō filling out this new band, they developed songs in the studio, with lyrics inspired by their own wide-ranging interests: James Joyce, the Sacred Harp hymnal, a poem by Anne Carson, the Bible’s Book of Ruth, the American roots tune “I’ll Fly Away,” the pop music of ABBA, and more.

Rachel didn’t whitewash him or his record AT ALL, I don’t know where you got that idea.

In fact, she starts her coverage with an extensive history of his house in Maryland.

When Frederick Douglas was a young, disobedient slave, his master sent him to a “slave-breaker” named Edward Covey; Covey’s house/land/business was called Mount Misery. Douglas goes into great detail, in one of his auto-bios, of the torture he endured day after day during his tenure at this slave-breaker’s facility at Mt Misery.

The building and property remains intact; that’s Rumsfeld’s house while he was Dubya’s Sec-Def. The man chose to purchase and live at a place called Mt Misery, where Frederick Douglas was tortured every day for a year. And didn’t even change the name.

The recovery of the two additional victims brings the death toll from Thursday’s collapse to 18. Levine Cava added that 145 people presumed to be in the building at the time of the collapse are still missing.

She added that 139 people in the building are now accounted for — a decrease from yesterday’s numbers. Levine Cava clarified that the figure dropped because officials are no longer including the dead as those who are “accounted for.”

Levina Ceva added that the victims found Wednesday were those of two children, ages 4 and 10.

Last week at work, there was a song playing on the PA with a longish, loudish guitar solo in it. One of my co-workers started complaining about what ‘some people consider music’, then he said, ‘Fucking LA producers.’ I said, “Aren’t they British?” He said, ‘Who?’ I said, “Yeah, the Who. I think that was Pete Townsend on the guitar.” He said, ‘That was The Who?’ “Yep.”

When Donald Trump’s New York campaign manager implied that Gold Star Families supported terrorists (over Mr. Khan’s speech at the DNC), a lot of Gold Star Families made it a point to wear the pin everywhere as a protest against conservaliars.

Every time I went to a village board meeting I wore that pin.

You might recall Sen. Tim Kaine catching crap from the North Carolina GOP claiming his Blue Star Family pin was actually a Honduran flag pin (so they could claim he was un-American).

Don’t let the Republican Party take the symbol intended by the nation to express pain and loss from you.

Although the GOP lied us into a war, and your son paid the price with the last full measure of his devotion, neither you nor him did anything wrong.

It is not my place to tell you how to process your pain, but I’ll be damned if the Republican Party is going to paint me as a terrorism supporter. Fuque all of them. All it shows is how much they care about those left behind, the parents or children of military members who were lied to.

You can apply for a new one from the Department of Defense if you change your mind about Republicans weaponising your loss.

DD Form 3, Application for Gold Star Lapel Button (PDF)

When the dipshyte from New York made that statement, I contacted the Nebraska Gold Star Mothers asking for a statement condemning him. She said she could not make such a statement, because the Gold Star Mothers and Families organisation is Congressionally-chartered.

I told her that won’t stop me from doing it in the village board meeting, which I did.

Hi, folks,
Sticking a cautious toe back in the lizard pond after an unplanned three-week break from most of the internet. Hope everyone is reasonably well and there hasn’t been any really terrible news for anyone in the crew. Way too many threads to catch up on, just have to wade into the current one.

Rather a relief to ignore politics for a spell, but missed hearing what you all were up to. Lots of family gathering on this end, which was mostly fun; lots of medical crap going on, which will continue to be anything but. Got some of my mom’s stuff rearranged; got some of it blessedly gone. Visitors have all gone home. Now to start a new month and get back into the old routines. Onward, through the fog…

First, the State has asserted it is on the side of the First Amendment; the plaintiffs are not. It is perhaps a nice sound bite. But the assertion is wholly at odds with accepted constitutional principles. The First Amendment says “Congress” shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press. The Fourteenth Amendment extended this prohibition to state and local governments. The First Amendment does not restrict the rights of private entities not performing traditional, exclusive public functions. See, e.g., Manhattan Cmty. Access Corp. v. Halleck, 139 S. Ct. 1921, 1930 (2019). So whatever else may be said of the providers’ actions, they do not violate the First Amendment. Case 4:21-cv-00220-RH-MAF Document 113 Filed 06/30/21 Page 17 of 31

Sye Ten Bruggencate, Presbyterian pastor and well-known Christian apologist, posts his “side” of the story that got him canned from Faith Presbyterian Church in Tillsonburg, Ontario.

proverbs1817.com

It is amazing how pastors can always find forgiveness for themselves, but never for women.

His church and he are going at it, him accusing the elders of the church of lying about him, and them accusing him of moral failings (which is unspecified, but the greatest moral failing in any Christian church is financial crimes, i.e.: stealing from the church).

I was finally able to present a thorough defense to my Session and they deemed there was no evidence for the accusations, and they now believed that taken in its entirety the evidence exonerated me. [edit: to be clear I do not believe that I have been fully exonerated for my actual sin, I simply repeated the words from the statement my Session was preparing to release]. They restored me to church privileges and prepared a statement for release. On advice from outside sources they decided not to release the statement without consulting more outside sources.

(translating from apologetics-speak: the lawyers need to consult with their lawyers)

Since then, due to matters unrelated to this issue, my Pastor and one of my two Elders have resigned and the other has been granted a sabbatical effective today.

So you’re not the only immoral fuquewitte in the church. Got it.

While I have been restored to church privileges the matter of any possible future apologetics work remains unresolved. A new Session for my Church was installed last night, and I will seek their counsel on how to proceed.

Of course they restored him. As for apologetics work, nothing keeps a good apologist down except jail or death.

More self-serving PR to rehabilitate his image amongst Christians at the link.

The plaintiffs assert, too, with substantial factual support, that the actual motivation for this legislation was hostility to the social media platforms’ perceived liberal viewpoint. Thus, for example, the Governor’s signing statement quoted the bill’s sponsor in the House of Representatives: “Day in and day out, our Case 4:21-cv-00220-RH-MAF Document 113 Filed 06/30/21 Page 24 of 31
Page

freedom of speech as conservatives is under attack by the ‘big tech’ oligarchs in Silicon Valley. But in Florida, we said this egregious example of biased silencing will not be tolerated.” Similarly, in another passage quoted by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor said, “What we’ve been seeing across the U.S. is an effort to silence, intimidate, and wipe out dissenting voices by the leftist media and big corporations… . Thankfully in Florida we have a Governor that fights against big tech oligarchs that contrive, manipulate, and censor if you voice views that run contrary to their radical leftist narrative.” This viewpoint-based motivation, without more, subjects the legislation to strict scrutiny, root and branch. See, e.g., Rosenberger v. Rector and Visitors of Univ. of Va., 515 U.S. 819, 829 (1995) (“The government must abstain from regulating speech when the specific motivating ideology or the opinion or perspective of the speaker is the rationale for the restriction.”) (citing Perry Ed. Ass’n v. Perry Local Educators’ Ass’n, 460 U.S. 37, 46 (1983))

Funny that “large Florida theme parks” are exempt. Wonder who that includes?

Finally, the same is true of the exclusion for social-media providers under common ownership with a large Florida theme park. The State asserted in its brief that the provision could survive intermediate scrutiny, but the proper level of scrutiny is strict, and in any event, when asked at oral argument, the State could suggest no theory under which the exclusion could survive even intermediate scrutiny. The State says this means only that the exclusion fails, but that is at least questionable. Despite the obvious constitutional issue posed by the exclusion, the Legislature adopted it, apparently unwilling to subject favored Florida businesses to the statutes’ onerous regulatory burdens. It is a stretch to say the severability Case clause allows a court to impose these burdens on the statutorily excluded entities when the Legislature has not passed, and the Governor has not signed, a statute subjecting these entities to these requirements.

Final excerpt

To survive strict scrutiny, an infringement on speech must further a compelling state interest and must be narrowly tailored to achieve that interest. See, e.g., Reed, 576 U.S. at 171. These statutes come nowhere close. Indeed, the State has advanced no argument suggesting the statutes can survive strict scrutiny. They plainly cannot. First, leveling the playing field—promoting speech on one side of an issue or restricting speech on the other—is not a legitimate state interest. See, e.g., Arizona Free Enter. Club v. Bennett, 564 U.S. 721, 749-50 (2011).Whatever might be said of any other allegedly compelling state interest, these statutes are not narrowly tailored. Like prior First Amendment restrictions, this is an instance of burning the house to roast a pig. See, e.g., Reno v. ACLU, 521 U.S. at 882; Sable Commc’n of Cal., Inc. v. FCC, 492 U.S. 115, 131 (1989). The plaintiffs are likely to prevail on the merits of their claim that these statutes violate the First Amendment. There is nothing that could be severed and survive.

The legislation now at issue was an effort to rein in social-media providers deemed too large and too liberal. Balancing the exchange of ideas among private speakers is not a legitimate governmental interest. And even aside from the actual motivation for this legislation, it is plainly content-based and subject to strict scrutiny. It is also subject to strict scrutiny because it discriminates on its face among otherwise-identical speakers: between social-media providers that do or do not meet the legislation’s size requirements and are or are not under common ownership with a theme park. The legislation does not survive strict scrutiny. Parts also are expressly preempted by federal law. For these reasons,
IT IS ORDERED:
1.The plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction, ECF No. 22, is granted.
2.The defendants Ashley Brooke Moody, Joni Alexis Poitier, Jason Todd Allen, John Martin Hayes, Kymberlee Curry Smith, and Patrick Gillespie must take no steps to enforce Florida Statutes §§ 106.072 or 501.2041 until otherwise ordered. The preliminary injunction set out in this paragraph will take effect upon the posting of security in the amount of $1,000, or an undertaking to pay up to $1,000, for costs and damages sustained by a party found to have been wrongfully enjoined.

So for us lay folks, Florida’s BS Internet law has been swatted down - already?

BigAg has an outsized influence on American politics.

Indeed, I think BigAg is one of the most powerful actors in American politics.

All those states in the middle of the US - they are directly controlled by Agriculture interests, save Texas and Oklahoma in which Big Oil is dominant. But even there BigAg shares some of the control.

Too many activists overlook Big Ag. Activists seem to fixate on Big Oil, Big Pharm, or Wall Street.

But the reason so many current agendas of the Democratic party, to help Americans, from voting to finding a place to live, are stalled in the Senate is because of Big Ag.

The Dems failed to flip Iowa in the last election, and indeed lost control of traditionally Democratic congressional district.

That inability to flip the Senate seat from Iowa is because Iowa politics is controlled by the Farm Bureau, Cargill, etc. They know that a Democratic Senator would be at least open to legislation that would curtail the activities and curtail the profits of the said agents.

At least 30 US Senators are in the hands of Big Ag.

Hmm.

And anti-Semitic attitudes are consistently higher among young people, in contrast to other forms of prejudice where the more youthful tend to be more tolerant, according to a study last fall by researchers at Tufts University and Harvard University.
For Jassey and Blake Flayton, a 20-year-old senior at The George Washington University, in Washington, DC, the greatest concern is the more insidious, seemingly regular and casual anti-Semitism, the cloaked language being used — whether knowingly or not — in progressive circles they once considered themselves integral parts of.
“An American Jew is only used to perceiving anti-Semitism as Nazis in Charlottesville carrying tiki torches, or a swastika being spray-painted onto a synagogue wall, or the Christian right saying that Jews killed Jesus Christ. We’re not very attuned to and good at recognizing anti-Semitism when it doesn’t come from that extreme side of the political spectrum,” Flayton says. “But we are going to have to get used to it, because that’s what’s coming here. It’s already here.”

Village of Lytton, B.C., evacuated as mayor says ‘the whole town is on fire’ (Canadian Broadcasting Company)

Residents of a village in B.C.’s Fraser Canyon have been told to evacuate the area after a fast-moving wildfire swept in on Wednesday evening.

Mayor Jan Polderman says he told everyone to leave Lytton, a community of some 250 people, as the situation rapidly deteriorated. He signed the official evacuation order at 6 p.m. PT.

“It’s dire. The whole town is on fire,” Polderman told CBC News. “It took, like, a whole 15 minutes from the first sign of smoke to, all of a sudden, there being fire everywhere.”

He said he told residents to head for the nearby community of Boston Bar, and was on his way there himself. A reception centre has also been set up in Merritt to the east.

“At the First Nation band office, the fire was a wall about three, four feet high coming up to the fence line. I drove through town and it was just smoke, flames, the wires were down,” Polderman said.

Earlier this week, Lytton, about 260 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, recorded the highest temperature ever seen in Canada on three consecutive days, topping out at 49.6 C on Tuesday.

I remain doubtful that Trump will be charged with any (more) crimes.

The charges expected to drop imminently for the underling who supposedly manages the Trump Org. are there to make him flip on the organization.

At most, I expect the Trump Org to be charged with money laundering and illegal campaign activities.

Not enough to indict Trump directly, but perhaps enough to make his company a hot potato in the financial world.

Still, I doubt that even if there are indictments, getting convictions will be difficult. In the end, Trump with brag about beating his “persecution” and Trump will be elevated even higher in the eyes of this followers.

Whether one or more of the kids one day will run into legal problems is a real possibility. But we’re looking at a century long con by Trump and his family, starting in the late 1970’s by Trump and running through until his children are dead.

It is possible one or more of the grandchildren will turn on their family in the latter half of this century and like some of Trump’s other relatives spill some more beans on the sordid mess.

But by then the Trumpers who rage today will be dead, and the price of America’s self-indulgent fascination with the con-man will be like one of those bad child-hood experiences that lingers decades later.

Reminds me of something my mother told me when she was taken to the psych hospital—they kept asking her who the president was. She kept saying “Richard Nixon.” Well, it was late in August 1974 and Nixon hadn’t been president for maybe two weeks and she hadn’t internalized it yet. So the docs thought she was *really* out of it (granted, she WAS hearing voices and seeing hallucinations), but that was one thing she was annoyed with them about…”don’t ask who the president is when he just changed!”

Asking for old-doggo advice (yes, it’s that kind of advice I’m asking for):

My chiweenie, Rex, turns 13 next month. We got him back in 2010, when he was about a year and a half old. I kind of figure he was a give-up because he was the only calm one in the whole dog section of the pound, and was very well behaved, and smart, when we brought him home. And it’s been a fun 11.5 years with him.

He recently has not been eating as well as he used to, so I took him to the vet. He needs to have some teeth removed, but getting to the point where they can be removed, and actually removing them, could be really rough on Rex. The vet says he has a heart murmur, which he rates at about a 4/6. There’s no fluid on his lungs, but the vet says we would really need to get an ultrasound on him to determine if he could go under anesthesia or would we have to do it some other way. The vet doing the ultrasound could also end up recommending medication to help with his heart. And we will also need an x-ray of the head to determine what all needs to be pulled.

Rex also stumbles a lot more than he used to going up and down even the curbs or short steps outside. He definitely moves a lot slower than he used to. On the walks we go on, he no longer pulls on the leash. Instead, I slow down to stay beside him. When he’s at home, he definitely doesn’t move like he used to, though occasionally he will just take off running around the house or decide he needs to play with our other dog. And he definitely knows exactly when treat-time is. But he sleeps more now than he even used to.

Ultimately, I have to decide if all of the stuff that is going to be done to him is worth it, or if it’s going to be torture he doesn’t need to go through at his age. The hard part is that I can’t just wait until his body really gives out, because teeth will have to be pulled in order to continue any kind of quality of life. But most of his type of dog only live until about 15, so I’m not sure what kind of life it would give him.

I’m not entirely sure what the best way to proceed.

Remembering Dave Gorsuch: Friends, family reflect on the legacy of the Vail icon following his death at 82 (Vail Daily, three hours ago)

Dave and Renie had been married only a few years when they sold their small ski shops in Gunnison and Crested Butte. The young couple, with young sons John and Jeff in tow, in 1966, decided to cast their lot with the other pioneers of the still-new ski area at the western base of Vail pass.

Please don’t shoot the messenger!

No one at Your Wonkette is happy that Bill Cosby is getting out of prison. We are not “caping” for an alleged rapist. We are doing our damn job, which is to explain to you what happened today in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and why it’s probably correct from a legal perspective — if not a moral one. Moreover, as much as we would dearly love to blame this fucking debacle on Trumpland lawyer Bruce Castor, it really ain’t on him. Well, at least not completely.

Sorry, and thank you. Okay, ready?

The Methodist Church in the UK has voted to allow same-sex marriage.

The Methodist Church has become the largest religious denomination in Britain to permit same-sex marriages.

A vote to change the definition of marriage at the Methodist Conference on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed by 254 in favour with 46 against.

Freedom of conscience clauses mean ministers will not be forced to conduct such weddings if they oppose the move.

Same-sex marriage is not allowed in the Church of England or the Roman Catholic Church.

However it is welcomed in the Scottish Episcopal Church, the United Reformed Church and the Quakers in Britain.

Speaking of COVID, I bought (as in “I spent a credit at Audible that had been building up in my account for the last year because I wasn’t listening to books while driving to/from work”) called “Nightmare Scenario.” I’ve just gotten into the first chapter and the first incident, where Alex Azar was trying to talk TFG into not praising Xi of China in a Tweet.* Oh wait, that wasn’t the first incident. The prologue was one day in the life of Anthony Fauci, opening his mail one day in May 2020 and being doused in powder. It turned out to be some sort of cosmetic, but he went through two decontaminations and his office was scrubbed, because of the fear that it could be anthrax or ricin.

This is going to be a book I will have to listen to in small doses, I think.

*I AM SO GLAD BIDEN DOES NOT GOVERN BY TWEET. THANK YOU, JOE.

He was busy today designating July as “Victims of Communist Remembrance Month.”

There is no information on the DHHS state Website if it will be shut down or not, nor on the Governor’s Website.

Total vaccine doses administered (the state site doesn’t say whether that’s a complete course or simply one-shot, two-shot, three-shot) is 1,760,636. The state population is 1,961,504 (estimated).

The overwhelming majority of completed vaccinations are over in the eastern part of the state (that is, where the people live, and far more liberal).

As you move west through the state, vaccination rates drop off with increase in elevation number of conservatives. It positively sux out here in the Panhandle (still better than Wyoming though).

Those standards include things such as “sex exists,” “LGBT+ people exist,” and his opposition to the “controversial” sex education standards proposed, which violate his Christian faith and should violate yours too, whether you are a Catholic or not.

Gloria Allred explains what happens with Bill Cosby going forward.

Victim advocates say the fact that Cosby has been freed from jail based on the agreement issue — rather than on the merits of the case — will discourage survivors of sexual misconduct to come forward. Entertainment attorney and former Hollywood Reporter journalist Jonathan Handel says sloppy reporting could make that even worse.

“The unfortunate part of the rush to press coverage was people read the top of Page 1 (of the court decision) but not the bottom of it,” he said. “I do have some discomfort and fear that some victims in the future will feel, ‘Well, the heck with it, the courts aren’t sympathetic.’ The race for immediacy, the race to be the first to report, it’s the world we live in now, but it can be very much to the detriment of nuance and context.”

Allred said she’s hopeful that victims will continue to come forward. And while she doesn’t count the Cosby decision as a win, she sees a silver lining in regards to a civil case she’s litigating against Cosby in Los Angeles County.

“Now, Mr. Cosby will not be able to invoke his Fifth Amendment privilege against self incrimination — translating that in plain English, he will be required to answer our questions under oath” because he’s not in jeopardy of being criminally prosecuted, she said. “That’s actually beneficial to us and that’s why I’m looking forward to taking his deposition and really getting all the answers that we seek.”

Allred said she does expect “me too” witnesses to be an ongoing battle; arguments against the admissibility of such testimony is part of Weinstein’s appeal.

Twice.

The US and the EU are already planning grav wave detectors 10x the power of the present LIGO that should be operational sometime in the 2030s. They will allow us to “see” every black hole collision in the known universe as well as even something as “weak” as a exploding star. This means weekly gravity wave detections could number in the hundreds or probably thousands. Exciting times when Einstein himself doubted his gravity wave theory would ever be detectable at all.

Note- the precision needed for detection is less than the diameter of a single proton.

I don’t believe the 97% number; if vaccinated, you are much more likely to be asymptomatic or have a mild case and therefore probably not tested; so your case is never counted. But the 11% is troubling — and is a sign that we should still be masking and social distancing.

The quotes are misleading. What they’re saying, as I read in a different article, is that the truck, designed to contain such explosions, failed badly for reasons they don’t understand. They seem to think it was supposed to be able to contain that explosion.

Either the container was seriously defective or these weren’t traditional fireworks. Black cats don’t have that much punch.

It’s a combination, if you have the vaccine you are less likely to become infected and you are less likely to show symptoms if you are infected. But, the vast majority of people who catch the virus without being vaccinated also don’t show symptoms. The 97% is people who have reported, and it matches numbers in other locations of vaccinated vs unvaccinated, so it’s a very reasonable number.

Gov. Ricketts to Host “Protect Our Kids & Schools” Town Halls in Grand Island & Nebraska City on Thursday (Nebraska Governor’s Office)

These town halls will be to speak about priorities in public schools. Specifically, he wants to tell parents how to demand scrapping the proposed health and sex education standards.

Those standards include things such as “sex exists,” “LGBT+ people exist,” and his opposition to the “controversial” sex education standards proposed, which violate his Christian faith and should violate yours too, whether you are a Catholic or not.

So nothing about guns that actually, you know, KILL kids in school.

Republican justices in 2000 showed that their loyalty was to the party and not the nation. These current judges are justices who would have upheld Plessy vs Ferguson. It’s from the Daily Mail, but video captured less than ten minutes before the Champlain Tower South collapsed last week might be a potentially vital clue:

A new video purports to show water gushing from the ceiling of the doomed Miami condo building’s garage while concrete debris litters the floor just seven minutes before it collapsed.

The video was recorded at 1.18am on June 24 and zooms in on the entrance to the gated garage beneath the north side of Champlain Towers South - behind which water rains from the ceiling as if blasted from a fire hose. The building was reported to have crumbled at around 1.25am.

The alarming footage was posted to TikTok by Adriana Sarmiento who told Chicago news station WLS-TV that she was on vacation with her husband at the neighboring Bluegreen Vacations Solara Surfside Resort when she heard a noise and went to investigate.

It comes amid concerns from a structural engineer that the swimming pool deck may have caved in first and brought down the rest of the building with it, as corroborated by witnesses who say that sections of the pool deck had collapsed into the garage below.

Video at the link, and you can clearly see water pouring in - pretty serious volume of water, too, like a water main ruptured or something.

(translating from apologetics-speak: the lawyers need to consult with their lawyers)

So you’re not the only immoral fuquewitte in the church. Got it.

Of course they restored him. As for apologetics work, nothing keeps a good apologist down except jail or death.

More self-serving PR to rehabilitate his image amongst Christians at the link.

Marjoe smiles.

Punish Domestic Terrorists  Jul 1, 2021 • 9:21:32am

This is weird.

“Text me when it’s a good time to talk.”

That’s never a message you want to receive when you’re awaiting lab results. After my pregnancy and a year of post-natal physical therapy, I had become close with the nurses and staff at my OBGYN’s office. This was the first time my nurse practitioner had ever texted something so direct yet so ambiguous.

It had been at least two months since my last period, and we’d begun to worry. With another pregnancy ruled out, I’d undergone a battery of additional testing—ultrasounds, physical exams, blood work—to pinpoint a cause. Pending my diagnosis, we had already agreed upon a tentative treatment plan for follow-up visits that might include hormone injections to help “jump-start” my cycle. I sat on the couch gnawing at my cuticles, waiting for the call from my N.P. The first of many insurance bills had already arrived and sat splayed on the table.

“Your results are in,” she said when I answered the phone. “How old were the women in your family when they went through menopause?”

According to my blood work, my hormone levels were “postmenopausal.” At 40 years old, with no other symptoms, and a toddler at home, how could this possibly make sense?

She goes on to say that the condition was temporary, and she does not regret being vaccinated.

Heading out back to do some more RV stuff. Even though it’s 80 outside, it’s overcast which actually makes it kinda nice. I’ll be back when it hits 90 or so. And yes, I’ll keep hydrated :-)

Report: Trump Was Delighted By News Of Incoming Indictment

Trump cheered upon being told on Monday that his company and Weisselberg would be indicted in Vance’s investigation, but not him personally, believing that the development in what he calls a “witch hunt” would backfire on Democrats politically and boost his potential 2024 prospects, according to Politico’s Playbook.

“This is going to hurt Sleepy Joe,” he reportedly told an adviser, who opined in a interview with Playbook that “[n]ow he’s definitely going to run for president.”

That’s what they’re saying. They don’t know if the truck’s containment failed or if there was something more explosive than gunpowder in there.

Residue will tell.

Court overturns gay bias verdict against ex-Iowa Gov. Branstad (Omaha World-Herald)

IOWA CITY — Overturning a landmark $1.5 million jury verdict, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that former Gov. Terry Branstad did not illegally discriminate or retaliate against a gay state official.

The court found a lack of evidence to show that Branstad discriminated against then-Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Chris Godfrey because of his sexual orientation.

Although Godfrey was widely known as openly gay, there is no proof Branstad was aware of Godfrey’s sexual orientation before asking him to resign and slashing his salary when Godfrey refused, Justice Christopher McDonald wrote.

The ruling overturned a 2019 verdict in which Polk County jurors found that Branstad and his former legal counsel violated the Iowa Civil Rights Act. Jurors had awarded Godfrey, a Democrat who is now an official with the U.S. Department of Labor, $1.5 million in damages for emotional distress.

UK, Ireland, France and Italy according to the article.

In other words, due to online shopping, not Brexit.

I guarantee that her ongoing and apparently chronic mental issues and wretched taste in men would mean an empty bank account within 5 years of any liberation from her father.

She might screw up her life, therefore she cannot be free.

No fucking comment.

A year ago unvaccinated people were 100% of cases, so vaccination is obviously not working.

Where do you get that? I’m not making the point that vaccinations don’t improve the situation dramatically — just that, for now, some of us believe we should remain cautious. There are too many unvaccinated people out there and there are new variants, against which the vaccines may not be as effective. We still don’t know how J&J performs against delta.

Republican justices in 2000 showed that their loyalty was to the party and not the nation. These current judges are justices who would have upheld Plessy vs Ferguson. IANAL so maybe one of the attorneys here can enlighten us that the two decisions today are not as terrible as they seem. But our democracy is dying and the GOP is putting a stake in its heart.

To reassure you, they still can’t go back to the days of poll taxes and literacy tests. The obstacles they place to voting can be overcome with hard work, and they are going to suppress many of their own low propensity non college educated white voters.

There have to be doctors saying she is not competent. and it has to go beyond just “not good with money” or “bad judgement”. There must be real underlying issues. And I don’t buy the doctors are all paid off thing,
