Lyrics:
Told you, baby, one more time
Don’t make me sit all alone and cry
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

I’m like a fish out of water, a cat in a tree
You don’t even want to talk to me
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

He won’t take me back when I come around
Says he’s sorry then he pulls me out
I got a big chain around my neck
And I’m broken down like a train wreck
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

See I got a candle and it burns so bright
In my window every night
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

You don’t like to see me standing around
Feel like I been shot and didn’t fall down
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

He won’t take me back when I come around
Says he’s sorry then he pulls me out
I got a big chain around my neck
And I’m broken down like a train wreck
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

Turn off the trouble like you turn off a light
Went off and left me, it just ain’t right
Well, it’s over I know it but I can’t let go

Around every corner, something I see
Brings me right back how it used to be
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

He won’t take me back when I come around
Says he’s sorry then he pulls me out
I got a big chain around my neck
And I’m broken down like a train wreck
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

He won’t take me back when I come around
Says he’s sorry then he pulls me out
I got a big chain around my neck
And I’m broken down like a train wreck
Well, it’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

It’s over, I know it but I can’t let go
It’s over, I know it but I can’t let go
It’s over, I know it but I can’t let go

I think the last Before Times concert I went to was Robert Plant at Philly’s Mann Music Center. We were there to see one of his openers, Nathaniel Ratliffe and the Night Sweats, but we were like, “Eh, let’s see what the Lead Balloon guy has to offer.”

Was really surprised at how good he sounded. It’s obviously not 1975, but Plant knows this and adjusts accordingly. He opened with “What Is and What Will Be” and did a smattering of Zep songs, including “The Battle of Evermore” with the other opener (I forget the lady’s name.). The guy playing guitar with Plant was just as good or possibly better than Page.

Black woman should be “chastened” and “humbled.”

White woman is “self-assured” and “driven.”

Remember how Obama and Biden did those short videos to show their tight relationship? Well, just spitballing here, but maybe Biden and Harris could make some too. You know, she greets him at the door, helps him slip out of his coat and into a nice velvet smoking jacket, puts the slippers on his feet, that kind of thing. /////

I wonder if the NYC FBI field office actually had a role in it, or if Rudy was just blowing smoke and spreading FUD and Comey blinked.

I hadn’t thought of that. I mean, it’s a huge operation and likely was just Rudy and maybe some old (retired?) cronies. But they inserted themselves into the “oh, new stuff discovered on Huma’s computer” BS, iirc.

So the LA Times is running a big story about markups in hospital bills. Story is being pushed by Twitter.

I guess I’m surprised that people are surprised this happens.

P0YPj7i1O6YP1cT2OuDgIUPB72CMax4sRf20HEVxDlBSmCni2iwwbxHXOD6SchKkFxCD5pSBR+nSlD4X4aQ9YAfeReOmqX2uFfKpm9fq+k2FEHaHbtIx4/K4GV+pB1XTXdGORvri83isNNR93TwQYrJURe4XCVmwTmMep1ODPeHXiV3jtnOU9LMF2QrKytresgVuf6Qh/4Q=

What people don’t realize is why hospitals have to do some markups.

Put simply, each time I went to the ER there were beds full of people who could never pay for their care.

So people like me, with health insurance that pays for ER, get billed to pay the costs of running an ER.

This is well known.

This is the problem that the ACA tries to attack.

The uninsured are not turned away from hospitals in this country. Or, at least most of the times the uninsured are not turned away from hospitals that are run by, or operate located upon, a community health district.

This is why we need a one-payer solution. The buyer, the US gov’t, can enforce billing regulations and cost controls.

Still, healthcare is not free. IT SHOULD NOT BE free. Highly skilled workers deserve their pay.

What we have to accept as a society is that we need to prioritize our collective spending.

I remember a weekend of 70+ temps in December 2001 or 2002 in northern CT. I also remember over a foot of snow in the mid 90s in Boston in mid April. If you look at all time high and low temperatures for various times of the year, many will be pre WW2. It’s the overall average that matters, not local extremes.

Oh, I get that the single day temp isn’t indicative of anything in particular, but the entire month has been warmer than normal.. 3-5 degrees warmer than normal. November? Warmer than normal. The entire year has been like that.

And the extremes within the year are becoming more extreme. More extreme rains. More extreme snow. More extreme flooding events. More extreme

My brother went to West Point many years ago. Per his telling, the Corps of Cadets are going to be very miserable for the next couple of weeks.

They were already in for it considering the mascot abduction FOOBAR.

I had thought that they did succeed on the second attempt, though.

Reminds me of the time my unit was on an exercise and a small team of ours snuck into the opfor command tent and stole the opfor commanding Colonel’s lbe. (It was hanging on a chair.) Our commander got to return it to him in a rather amusing (at least for us) public presentation the next morning.

I apparently lead a sheltered life. Before today, if asked, I would have ventured that Luster Dust probably came from the same vendors as Angel Dust. And I would have been wrong:

Cake Decorating Luster Dust Associated with Toxic Metal Poisonings — Rhode Island and Missouri, 2018-2019

During 2018-2019, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) investigated cases of metal poisonings associated with commercially and home-prepared cakes decorated with products referred to as luster dust.

Several types of glitters and dusts, broadly known as luster dust, for use on prepared foods can be purchased online and in craft and bakery supply stores. Decorating foods with luster dust and similar products is a current trend, popularized on television programs, instructional videos, blogs, and in magazine articles.

Some luster dusts are specifically produced with edible ingredients that can be safely consumed. Companies that make edible luster dust are required by law to include a list of ingredients on the label. Luster dusts that are safe for consumption are typically marked “edible” on the label.

Some luster dusts used as cake decorations are not edible or food grade; labeled as “nontoxic” or “for decorative purposes only,” these luster dusts are intended to be removed before consumption .

RIDOH (2018) and Missouri DHSS (2019), investigated heavy metal poisonings associated with commercially and home-prepared cakes decorated with luster dust after receiving reports of children (aged 1-11 years) who became ill after consuming birthday cake.

The Rhode Island case reported in that CDC article:

…snip…
In October 2018, the RIDOH Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology (CAIDE) investigated a report that six children aged 1-11 years became ill after attending a child’s birthday party. Symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea began 30 minutes to 10 hours after consumption of the cake, and usually lasted less than 10 hours. One person was reported to have experienced longer symptom duration and visited an emergency department for treatment. Investigators identified the birthday cake as a common food item consumed by all the children who became ill, and noted the party as the only common event. The cake, ordered from a local bakery, had been decorated with a thick layer of frosting mixed with luster dust described on the label as “gold dust” . CAIDE interviewed four persons who did not become ill and who reported either not eating any cake frosting (three) or eating no cake at all (one)

…snip…
CFP environmental health food specialists investigated the Rhode Island bakery on-site and implemented immediate control measures.

…snip…

The cake ingredients and preparation process were recorded. The cake had been baked, frozen, and frosted; luster dust was added to a butter extract and painted on the cake with a brush in intervals to produce a thick layer. The luster dust applied as a decoration to the cake’s frosting was labeled as rose gold dust, and marked as “nonedible,” “nontoxic,” and “for decoration only.”

…snip…
CFP traced three possible sources of the rose gold dust to three local companies: a cake pop bakery that sold the rose gold dust as a cake decoration, a wholesale culinary company that sold the powder to decorate cake stands, and an importer who was able to identify that the rose gold dust was fine copper powder that had been imported from a manufacturer that initially sold the powder for use as a metallic pigment for consumer goods such as floor coverings.

I see why they made a deal to use inmate labor because they had a “labor shortage.”

They don’t. Luster dust is a very fine powder that you can apply to various surfaces. The edible kind is fairly pricey and I’d imagine people who aren’t paying close attention think they are getting a better deal on the same thing when they buy the non-edible type.

Note that one warning said “for decoration only”. That’s poor communication to someone who sets out to decorate a cake.

Umm, yeah. You’d think they’d throw in a line about not being edible. Unless they don’t have lawyers to help them with it.

Reminds me of decades ago the campground restroom at Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley had signs over the sink saying the water was “not potable.” I hope it was just because it tasted bad, not that it was toxic, because I’m not sure everyone would know what that meant.

A lady at the post commissary once asked my wife what “comestible” meant. It was thus marked by the medics on a package of very old frozen fish.

“It won’t kill you.”

Sounds like a money laundering scheme. Buy low with a clean source of money. Sell at a highly inflated rate to oneself using a dirty account. Now one has more laundered dollars.
