Since his Garland shenanigans and the shit show of the Kavanaugh and Barrett confirmations, there’s been criticism about the legitimacy of not just the process but the legitimacy of the justices themselves. My money is on Mitch playing the I’m rubber and your glue card by making all his Republican collogues fall inline to vote no to force a VP tie-breaker. The talking point for the mid-term elections will become that the Dems are the ones making the court political by letting the VP have a vote. OK. At my wit’s end with a very annoying thing on my laptop setup.

I have a 2nd monitor duplicating my laptop screen so as to have a larger display to use.

Both laptop and 2nd monitor are Dell. Laptop is running Win 10.

What happens is that when focus is on a browser, Discord, or nothing the 2nd display blinks out with a lost HDMI connection error. It will blink back in a few seconds later. But then blink out again intermittently. Very annoying when trying to read comments.

This behavior does not happen at all when watching videos, playing games, etc. Just generally when reading stuff and scrolling down a page. I want to say it is activity/ feedback related since it tends not to happen while I am typing or interacting consistently with the machine. (That it is specific to certain activities is why I think it’s software/driver related and not the hardware.)

The following have not fixed the issue:
1. Switching in a new/different HDMI cable.
2. Updating monitor drivers, including getting a Dell specific one to replace the generic driver.
3. Refresh rate verified - 60 Hz seems to be what the monitor handles.
4. Have played with power/sleep settings on the laptop without any fix being found. (Though I suspect the issue is related to this in some way.)
5. Have Goggled the issue more than once - most “solutions” are treating it as a hardware thing, and then maybe a device driver issue. I’ve walked through these for the most part without the issue being fixed.
6. Audio playing/not playing appears to not affect things either way.

1. Check your power supply connections to your Motherboard and to your video card.
2. Every monitor has a preferred native resolution, make sure the laptop understands to use that for the monitor.
3.Set any screensaver settings to “off”
4. set monitor and PC sleep settings to “never” and set your power saving scheme to “balanced”
5. make sure that any apps using ugly old lower resolutions are tied to the other monitor & not this one.
6. This is the most likely candidate since it fixes itself: do what you can to keep your vid card cooler.

Mine already sits on a little 3” tall stand with a grid metal bottom to make sure it gets airflow and cooling. I do probably need to work on the internals a bit to get things cleaned up and verify the connectors and such are in good shape since it has been bounced around a bit lately with the all the back and forth of the recent move.

In the mean time I will see if the adjusted power and sleep settings seem to have any affect. I did notice that the internal monitor and 2nd monitor have different refresh rates (the internal one being slightly higher 60.014 vs 60.000) and wonder if this might be causing some sort of synch mismatch. But I also did not see an easy setting method to adjust the rates to match.

Time for some EV math…correct me where I’m wrong, but this is all estimates.

Wanted to put some juice in the new car since my wife will need it for the next two days before we get the home charger attachment. So we went to EV-Go and paid 33 cents per kWh. 21.86 kWh = $7.21
The car is cool in that it tells you the average mileage per kWh - which is between 3.4 and 4 miles - went up to 5 miles per kWh when I drove over the hill as it was all regeneration on the way down. But let’s go with 3.4 as it’s the low number. That means I paid 7.21 for 74 miles or so of driving ~.09 per mile(add in the 1.99 transaction fee and it comes out to 12 cents per mile). If we call that about the equivalent of 25mpg, then we’re looking at 2.9 gallons of gas. At $6.39 a gallon, that’s $18.53 or ~.25 per mile.

So yeah, it comes out to the equivalent of about three bucks a gallon. Can’t really complain about that too much.

I so fucking hate the Oscars. The only good thing about them this year is they’re back to the end of March near my birthday the way god intended. Whoever moved them to February for the last 7 or 8 years was fucked in the head.

That said, I have no idea what movies are even nominated. I know I’ve skimmed a few of them over the last year on my big-ass Frame - FF is your friend for most Hollywood productions…skip through the fights, explosions, car chases, and fucking (actually that’s more exciting in x3 speed…done already? Aww, sad.) and just listen to the dialog that furthers the plot, and you can cut 30-40 minutes from most movies. 90-110 minutes from a 2 1/2 hour Marvel/DC movie.

“West Side Story” is the only nominee that I have seen & intend to see. The way @Forward and @JTA were salivating over “Licorice Pizza” calling it some kind of “Epic Judaism” movie makes me not only not want to see it ever & also makes me want to vomit. Barbra Streisand isn’t even in it so how dare they call it a “Jewish” movie. It sounds like unwatchable dreck.

“Epic” is Hester Street, and Carol Kane didn’t get her Oscar.
