So, if Elon Musk can’t abort his Twitter buyout since he is now a Republican, can we at least prosecute him for Fecal Asshole Syndrome if he lets Nazis back in?

well, live and learn. tried some impromptu marinade with honey, pepper, some mustard, salt, and garlic. Wasn’t in the fridge for long, but the garlic just completely overwhelmed everything else. So not such a success.

I almost bought $200 in Dogecoin when it was 0.00047. Still about 180x that last time I checked. Glad I didn’t. I would have reinvested in one of the ‘real’ coins and lost my ass.

The only thing I’m going to ask is that you don’t force two-factor authentication. I am not allowed to have my phone in my work area, and I cannot access private email or facebook or twitter, so something like that would not work for me. Actually, I’m kind of surprised they haven’t tried to block this site.

Yeah well, you are not the only one. My history site is completely static HTML (except for a MS Access database behind some classic ASP) and it’s not https. In fact I can’t even get the certificate to install.

Definitely won’t make it mandatory, but it’s still going to be an option - limited to authenticator apps, because all the avenues to free text messaging have been shut down in the past few years.

Authenticator apps are better anyway. Much more secure.

So I came back to work tonight to learn that my coworkers decided to practice Office IT with our front desk printer…by which I mean they heard it making a progressively louder grinding noise and did nothing about it until I got in tonight to find it can’t print a single page document without jamming. I poked around at the innards and cycled the power a couple times, but any deeper repairs are gonna require new parts and possible disassembly, both things I’m not paid to do and don’t feel like spending my shift working on.

I suggested swapping it out with a spare office printer in the back on my way out the door this morning, but they followed the Office IT mantra of “It’s still working, so we can fix it later.”

This morning I was awaken to him at the foot of the bed trying to get the dog in the mirror to come out and play with him. He alternated between pleading and snarling or growling to no avail. Tonight he spent a few hours on the patio barking at the occasional critter in the night. He refused to use my old dog’s bed but tonight he took a nap on it. Now he growling at the dog in the back yard that is just his reflection in the sliding glass door…

Some people just feel the need to stand out with their opinions and will embrace such views less on their merits than on the potential notoriety they grant.

I recall as a kid, our school, which was terribly progressive for its time, was interviewing kids (individually) about our suggestions for what could be done to make the school a better place.

I did not want to just babble the usual stuff like having MacDonald’s take over lunchroom service or bouncy castles in each classroom, so I said (without really meaning it) that they need to get tougher on the students and crack down and see that there is more order and discipline.

The folks giving the survey seemed taken aback by such views, which I again just expressed in order to stand out from the rest.

If anything, the Treaty of Versailles was not punitive enough. For one thing, the bulk of the restrictions on Germany were largely voluntary, as in they could choose simply not to cooperate and there was little that could be done but resume the war. The Wiemar Republic was violating the military restrictions practically from Day One, and it was they (not Hitler) who announced in 1932 that Germany no longer felt itself bound by the Treaty. The “crippling” reparations were anything but, as the Allies never intended for Germany to pay more than half of what was imposed, the post-war hyperinflation caused by the government’s efforts to print their way out of debt. And the “war guilt” clause was pure propaganda, fabricated from an intentional misreading of the clause preceding the reparations Germany agreed to pay in order to foster anger domestically and guilt in sympathetic foreign audiences.

This has been my worry for awhile now… these all-white Army units would likely be deployed domestically to put down public protests, union strikes, student protests and other acts of assembly and they would do it with glee. The closer existing units are to combat-capable, the more diverse they are. You can guess a Signal Corps unit, an Infantry unit, and a Quartermaster unit by their relative reflectivity. A lot of societal drivers including economics and educational opportunity make that happen.

John Eastman, the attorney who architected Donald Trump’s last-ditch legal strategy to overturn the 2020 election, revealed Friday that he routinely communicated with Trump either directly or via “six conduits” during the chaotic weeks that preceded the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

In a late-night court filing urging a federal judge to maintain the confidentiality of his work for Trump, Eastman provided the clearest insight yet into the blizzard of communications between Trump, his top aides, his campaign lawyers and the army of outside attorneys who were working to help reverse the outcome in a handful of states won by Joe Biden.

The filing also describes the direct role of Trump himself in developing strategy, detailing “two hand-written notes from former President Trump about information that he thought might be useful for the anticipated litigation.” Those notes are among the documents Eastman is seeking to shield via attorney-client privilege. Eastman said he would also speak directly with Trump by phone throughout his legal challenges to the election.

A good bit of racism includes the concept of “contamination”. At the same time, black cooks and wet-nurses were common in the South. There are a bunch of studies of that inconsistency.

That was service work, not sharing as equals.

I wonder what percentage of deaths due to unregulated US companies is an acceptable number for her?

It is a matter of RW creed that all we have to do is remove all those pesky environmental, health and safety regulations and US industries would boom and create no end of well paid jobs with benefits (without the need for labor unions, either)

Also, get rid of the ACA and deregulate insurance industry so that we won’t need to pay for all the cancer treatments industry deregulation will bring.

If they can get lead into people’s brains, it’ll make more people think like they do. Where’s the downside to dropping regulations from their perspective? Workers can be replaced when their health collapses.

A percentage high enough to cause them trouble finding cheap labor.
A million Americans are dead and these scumbags won’t wear a mask or vaccinate. Human life does not matter to most Republicans. They have a fetus fetish that they use as a substitute for valuing human life.

Talk about military readiness taking a hit. Who wants to serve in the UNITED STATES military when they’re cast as 2nd or 3rd class citizens?

Bigger question: what top tier university or medical facility will find it easy to remain in a GOP run state when the state laws make it unattractive to minorities (racial, religious, LGBTQ) and women? Any company that now moves to Texas or Florida is announcing that it is run by white supremacists and religious fanatics and is contemptuous of anyone who is not a white cis-male.

This will all be GOP dogma within a year.

To the extent that anything Alex Jones says about biological change is true, it’s because we have a government that isn’t willing to push back enough on corporations to ensure they don’t release chemicals with harmful side effects into the environment.

If Alex Jones wants to stop these things, he should vote Democrat. But this is Alex Jones, the theatrical grifter, we’re talking about.

Cruz still has his Canadian citizenship also doesn’t he?

Who knows. Like every country, Canada has specific forms and procedures to renounce citizenship. All I saw him do was release a letter “renouncing” his citizenship, which doesn’t do anything.

I am a dual citizen myself and generally have no issues with the concept, but when it comes to senior government officials it can be a diplomatic problem.

He apparently received an official notice from the Canadian government. I do not know if this is authentic.

In one of my past lives (as a grad student at UofA in Tucson) I jobbed as a beekeeper.

My task was to collect dried cow chips and burn them in a smoker to calm the bees down so they would not swarm while their hives were being raided.

If they can get lead into people’s brains, it’ll make more people think like they do. Where’s the downside to dropping regulations from their perspective? Workers can be replaced when their health collapses.

The Board of the Asbestos Manufacturers Council made the mistake of putting such sentiments into writing, and distributing his proposals to the presidents of a couple dozen companies (in the 1930’s). They had commissioned some medical research, the researchers said “hey this crap is super-dangerous, you have the give the workers filtered masks and respirators…” The Council decided that was too expensive, let’s suppress the research, and just let everyone die and we can replace them.

Once those documents were discovered and authenticated (in the 1970s)… well, that’s why Johns-Manville and a dozen other used-to-be-huge companies don’t exist anymore. The companies that bought their assets and liabilities in bankruptcy sales were able to lobby the Bush admin to get a tens of billions of dollars federally funded settlement fund…

TO THIS DAY, judicially supervised settlements are still being approved and monies disbursed on a daily basis, and there’s dozens of law firms advertising on TV for clients to come to them for their mesothelioma settlement funds.

ETA — total cost to the American taxpayer of bailing out this industry and paying off their victims? More than we’ve spent on Ukraine.
