Another crypto enterprise (a “centralized decentralized finance” outfit) has bit the big one. From skeptical crypto observers Amy Castor and David Gerard:

In our last episode, Voyager Digital was looking shaky. Voyager had a massive hole in its balance sheet, courtesy of Three Arrows Capital (3AC), which had imploded. Voyager had maxed out its line of credit from Alameda for the month — it could only withdraw $75 million in credit for each 30-day rolling period.

On Friday, July 1, Voyager announced it was “temporarily suspending trading, deposits, withdrawals and loyalty rewards.” [Voyager, archive; WSJ]

How screwed is Voyager? Three-quarters of their assets — about $600 to $700 million in BTC and USDC owed by 3AC — are missing. [Press release; Yahoo Finance]

How screwed are Voyager’s customers? “Your debit card will stop working … exploring strategic alternatives,” the crypto broker said. “We are in discussions with various parties regarding additional liquidity and the go-forward strategy for the company.” [Voyager blog, archive]

Whoever had Voyager Digital next in the DeFi dead pool: you may now claim your 100 trillion luna.

Much more at the link: amycastor.com

In other crypto news, I did notice when checking at web3isgoinggreat.com that the Feds had filed a number of crypto related criminal cases at the end of June, but seriously, why isn’t the SEC stepping in and regulating this crazy?

And speaking of crazy, I’m sure you all have heard of the “Bored Ape Yacht Club” NFTs? Basically computer pictures of the same bored ape with different color schemes, etc. To wit:

Which sell for INSANE amounts of money…the ones in the picture are listed at 109 ETH which is currently ~$115,000 ish.

Basically, Yuga Labs is suing a guy named Ryder Ripps, who, true to his name, is selling a ripped off collection of Bored Apes. Yuga is claiming false advertising, cybersquatting, trademark infringement and unfair competition. I’m not going to try and parse out what has merit here and what doesn’t, since this is the bullshit product of late market capitalism. I’ll just let you read about it.

theartnewspaper.com

(If you want to actually read the pleading, put this into an incognito browser window because it goes to Bloomberg, but don’t torture yourself: bloomberglaw.com)

I do find it interesting that Yuga Labs did NOT sue for copyright. Probably they figured out that the whole deal with Non-Fungible Tokens is that they’re Non-Fungible.

Maybe don’t say things like “tyrannical Marxists” if you don’t want to be laughed at, and don’t storm the Capitol if you don’t want to face the consequences.

SANTA FE - Otero County commissioners on Friday rejected a plea by one of their colleagues, Couy Griffin, for taxpayer-funded legal representation as he fights a lawsuit seeking his removal from office.

Griffin - who was convicted of the misdemeanor offense of entering restricted grounds at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 - faces a legal complaint alleging he should be barred from holding public office for participating in the insurrection.

Griffin, in turn, maintains he was simply engaged in peaceful protest and was wrongly convicted.

His defense sparked laughter from members of the audience Friday as he made the case for county legal representation and said it was time to take a stand against “tyrannical Marxists” who want to take away freedom.

“Look this is hard enough without you all laughing,” Griffin said at one point in the meeting.

The other two members of the commission voted against authorizing county representation. Griffin didn’t vote.

One morsel of food for thought.
So right now, some employers are footing the bill for their employees to travel to a state that allows abortions.
That’s very caring of them.
BUT
What if it becomes the Law Of The Land that no abortion shall happen regardless?
How many corporations are going to “break the law?”
Then it will be “So sorry. We tried.”
If my daughter or grand daughters ever suffered in any degree from the pro life zealots screaming about the sanctity of life as they sentence women to die, and I have one last breath in me, it will not be pretty

That is what we have to fight to prevent the next few years. Remember that safe and effective abortion pills are available from foreign pharmacies with the assistance of aidaccess.org regardless of legality.

We were in Atlanta the summer Aaron was chasing Babe Ruth’s record, and my dad took us to a game hoping it would be the game. It wasn’t, but it’s a nice memory.

Also on that trip we went to Six Flags. My parent often worked in an amusement park in our trips. My dad found these coupons for a free frozen treat called a Cherry Berry. Every time we told my dad we were hungry, he’d throw us a coupon and said go get a Cherry Berry. At one point, I told my dad I needed some real food. Then mom realized what was up.

Video

Dropped a seething comment (not at Beau, mind you):

This and other cases has me fuming…
It didn’t take more than a couple of days for this case to surface. Or how ObGyn’s are now “observing patients with ectopic pregnancy and hemoperitoneum until they have a documented falling hemoglobin or unstable vital signs” (SIC(!)).
To put it in layman’s terms… An ectopic, or tubular, pregnancy is when the fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tube instead of the womb. They very rarely result in the birth of a child (99.9% failure rate). Very often, they lead to the fallopian tube rupturing, meaning bleeding. That massive bleed often leads to hemoperitoneum, which is bleeding into the peritoneal cavity (the cavity in which the fallopian tubes and the womb are). And even then, they have to wait until blood work documents that their hemoglobin is falling significantly and/or the patients vital signs going haywire (medical people refer to this as “crashing”). Yes, you read me right. ObGyn staff have to wait until a woman with an ectopic pregnancy practically has the Grim damn Reaper is in the room with them until they can legally act.
And the laws written by willfully ignorant fools don’t stop there. In Ohio, same state as that raped 10-year old girl, even when intervening in an ectopic pregnancy, have to transplant the fetus to the womb, supposedly to give it a chance to implant itself there. So far, no such fetus has survived more than a few minutes.
And you think that is all? It ain’t my friends. In Arizona a law is in the works which would give eggs and fetuses full rights. Yes. You read me right. And with the incompetency shown by these willfully ignorant legislators so far when writing laws, it is more than likely that it would result in menstruating becoming a criminal act (those who were attentive during biology know what I’m talking about)…
But back to the 10-year old. A 10-year old being pregnant is what’s called an “extreme high risk pregnancy”. Common complications are eclampsia, puerperal endometritis, uterine tearing, pelvic insufficiency and a lot of others that I will leave as an exercise for the readers of this comment (by all means, google them). Ectopic pregnancies are also more common the younger the mother is. These complications are often directly life-threatening, and a 10-year old child will suffer greatly and prolongedly should she succumb to them and perish. And this is what an Ohio legislator who shall remain unnamed calls an “opportunity”. Same legislator which is reportedly looking into banning birth control products.
And what is the response of the other side? That we are being mean and hysterical. In my case, they attack the fact that I’m not in the US (I’m in Sweden), but from experience I know that whatever happens in the US has ugly habit of working its way here. And it didn’t take long for one of the political parties to make calls for “intensifying the struggle against abortions” after the Roe v Wade verdict came down. A party which is in the Riksdag, our parliament.
So yeah, I am fuming. If I could breathe fire, I’d friggin’ be a WMD class flamethrower.

*sits down, tries breathing calmly*
*mic drop*

Lazy on the wind
Rollin’ over
Turnin’ slowly
Beginning and the end
Fire is bright

Never so alive
Smoke is freedom
Flame is mercy
I am free tonight
And I burn
I burn
Stoke the embers
Cleanse the spirit
A prayer in every spark
Feel the lick of
Bad religion
The finish and the start
In the beginning
We were smarter
And the flame was heaven-sent
Through the ages
We got stupid
Now we must repent
And I burn
I burn
Sift the ashes
For reminders
Stony things remain
Tooth and bone
Unimpressive
I have left these things
Because fire is bright
Fire is clean
Efficient and divine
Tooth and bone
Charms and dolls

re: #5 wrenchwench

Somebody is going to turn menstruation into a political weapon. I hope.

Wait until they find out the egg is neither male nor female. Or both.

Well, considering that some single fertilized eggs split into more than one embryo, that could be a problem. And a very quick Google search shows that while chromosomal sex is established at fertilization, it’s six weeks before the first signs of sex differentiation are noticed. And this process is complex, at least according to this article from NIH as part of a larger series on endocrinology: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

It’s far more complicated than the desert dirt in the Arizona legislature even pretend to know about. I know that even chromosomal sex is complicated in and of itself, in between missing X chromosomes or extra Y chromosomes or combinations I’m unaware of because I’m not a doctor, Jim! Then add hormonal influence and of course the desert dirt didn’t take that into consideration because “God made ‘em Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!” and that tired old joke just shows the tired old thinking of the desert dirt.

They’re going to kill women here, I just know it, and those asshats over at Apologia church have been waiting for this day. Fuck ‘em all!

re: #65 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie

Though it might be heresy to some, I usually always go with margarine. It’s less expensive than butter here, and now butter has skyrocketed in price. I have a favorite brand, “Stella”, made by a Swedish company with a branch here in Czech Republic (I used to teach for them back in the day, so I’ve got some loyalty to my former students). But only one supermarket chain in my region carries it - the company focuses their distribution to smaller chain supermarkets like Hruška and Družstvo COOP (“Collective Co-Op”, formerly known as Jednota, which was the old state-owned supermarket chain/monopoly here during the Communist era) which you find more commonly in small towns and villages. Luckily, there’s a Hruška right down the street from me.

And with that, have a good one Lizards and stay healthy.

Got word a few days back our gig was cancelled due to unforeseen and unexplained raesons.
Might be monetary.
Might be “My Unca has a kid that is in a band and all the kids really like them and they are really, really good.”
Both has happened.
No big deal, just a buck lost and some release denied.
So I’m dropping tracks.
Bear with me.
A gem IMHO.

That looks good. I just took some of my wife’s homemade pesto out of the freezer to make pesto and spaghetti for my son this evening. He uses the Charles Johnson method of parmesan application. I’d like to have him try something nice like that, but we go mid-range—can’t remember the brand.

I may be actually learning how to cook soon. I’m 90% about to buy into a senior co-op. It’ll be the first place I’ve ever lived with a functioning dishwasher so I won’t be drawn to one-pot meals. I’ve been on the waiting list for this place for about 2.5 years.

If the move happens, I won’t be in St. Paul any more. I’ll be in West St. Paul. It’ll be the first time in 68 years that I haven’t lived in Ramsey County.

Even though I live within an hour’s drive, I don’t know Boston well. But I feel like if they had pulled this shit much farther from the tourist area they would have encountered trouble.

A hollow voice says: Abort SCOTUS  Jul 2, 2022 • 2:54:57pm

The rest of the train songs have now been posted. The universe didn’t let me publish more than 15 per page because reasons (which it didn’t tell me).

Except the last one, in which I noticed after publishing 15 that I only had four left, tried to add them to the page — and it worked. Maybe if I’d published the page and added songs bit by bit, I might have been able to make them longer. And maybe I’d still be here tomorrow if I’d done it that way.

Anyway, enjoy!

SCOTUS justices should get the same level of protection of their privacy vs. protestors that they have given to patients and staff at abortion clinics. No more and no less.

What would be fun is if the local cops had the gonads to cite that decision as WHY they couldn’t do more. But you know they won’t.

Arguably less; they’re public servants.

There have been some comments elsewhere I’ve seen that the USSS was corrupted by Trump. I would bet that the majority just do their jobs. But I would also bet that those who joined the Trump cult probably resented having to detail a Black president before Trump.

Don’t really care and I ain’t that guy.
Didn’t take anything from me per se. It was an offer we did not pursue. It fell in our lap.
Done.
Maybe later we get another unsolicited offer. Cause we nice.
We sit on a pile of ash as most of the clubs were either sold due to the insanity of MADD, or maybe paybacks or insurance and turned into an empty lot..
What do I know except one guy with one guitar and a tip jar is good to go.
Thus no sound man.
Made more money in 1975 with a soundman and light man.
Holiday Inn circuit. Poconos. Lower tier NY. And every stop between.
Actually made great money and had large crowds. Had a Union Book listing.
Amazing. After we pulled knives, I was jettisoned after I told the bass player to try it in front of over 100 folks with the dry ice streaming and the mics hot.
We was walking towards each other taking our axes off as we both realized it was hot mics and the entire place was throwing money down on who would do what to whom…
The stories I have you would not believe.
Falling out 2nd story windows.
Cops showing up grabbing drunks as they walked out.
Management begging us to calm the crowd.
People wanting to give us everything from drinks drugs and pizza and a ride to home and fuck our brains out.
Metered beer and metered soft drinks and being told you drank too many metered Pepsis and you cut off…
No free food, not even a bag of fucking potato chips.
The rooms they set you up in was hard by the truck stop and you could hear every single date scream and slam the doors.
One night in Jacksonville North Carolina at a huge club, outside Camp Lejeune, we had a 7 day contract. On 3rd night somebody stood up and screamed our drummers name.
Yes.
And he knew him and never bought us a fucking pie….
Could not drink alcohol in NC as a performer back then.
Reduced to eating black eyed peas and cup o soup twice a day and scavenging..
Stole MD 20/20 from the convivence store by having Jerry drop a bottle on the floor over there, as we jammed and ran with Mad Dog fixes the other way.
Ah.
Youth.
