LYRICS:
It’s been a long time since I watched these lights alone
I look around my life tonight and you are gone
I might have done something to keep you if I’d known
How unhappy you had become
While I was dreaming of you
With my heart in your hands
And I was following through
With my beautiful plans

Yeah now I’m rolling down this canyon drive
With your laughter in my head
I’m going to have to block it out somehow to survive
Because those dreams are dead
And I’m alive

I want to go where I will never hear your name
I want to lose my sorrow and be free again
And I know I’ve been insane
When I think of places I could have been
But I was dreaming of you
With my heart in your hands
And I was following through
With my beautiful plans

Standing here by the highway side
Watching these trucks blow by
Inches from my face
Yeah thinking about the time I’ve wasted
And the pleasure we once tasted
Looking up and down this road
I’ve been here before
I can’t be here no more

Yeah now I’m rolling down California five
With your laughter in my head
I’m going to have to block it out somehow to survive
Because those dreams are dead
I’m alive

Hey look at the way I believed in you
And loved you all these years
Now you can fill a swimming pool with all my salty tears
If you’d have told me what was in your heart
But baby you lied
And I thought that it would kill me
But I’m alive

The “soul” is a figment of the imagination in my opinion.

It doesn’t exist.

30
wrenchwench  Jul 16, 2022 • 11:59:16am

re: #25 John Hughes

Has she has her soul removed?

Let’s look at her numbers.

Only 10% of girls under 11 even get their period. Only 52 girls under the age of 14 got abortions in Ohio last year

Of the 10% who have become fertile, some unlucky smaller percentage actually get pregnant. Some unluckier, smaller percentage don’t get an abortion. So those 52 pregnant children represent a tiny fraction of children being raped in Ohio. 90% have almost no chance of rescue.

Of those 52, how many are returned to a dangerous home?

There are two reasons Trump won’t run:

He’s dead.

His physical and/or mental health has so far declined that he’s basically bedridden and needs round the clock nursing care.

If the GOP throws him over, he will run a third-party, scorched-earth campaign.

I used to follow along with a lot of sov-cit and FOTL (Canadian/British versions of American sovereign citizens) attempts to flout the law. I think when you put the two things together, it’s probably a good* development. I have respect for the Bidens, but he clearly can’t take on another term due to “so many things” and his inability to react in a way that this new media world demands and losing support from progressives over tone-deafness. The problem is that this is the Democratic party and the strategic thinkers probably aren’t behind the scenes laying the groundwork for a suitable and electable progressive candidate.

*I know it’s not “good” but at a loss for a better term right now.

Yes. The GOP leader of the NH state house, Jason Osborne, is a Free Stater who came to NH just a few years ago as part of the new hardcore Libertarians (and they’re cannibalizing the GOP here). A couple of weeks ago he tweeted something like: “this 4th of July it’s better to invest in ammo for your AK-47 than buy hotdogs for a cookout.” There’s a lot more about this dude, but for another time.

Memo to the Biden Administration:

Now is NOT the time to burnish your credentials with the moderates with Sister Souljah moments. It’s not the nineties anymore and you’re not the Clinton Administration. Roger Morris-style triangulation is over.

Pissing on the activist base is not something you can afford to do at this time. You need to learn from the Republicans and channel the activists’ righteous fury at the real enemy - the Republicans - not be trying to make backroom deals with fucking Mitch McConnell that he’ll immediately renege on in the interest of fostering a Potemkin image of delusional collegiality.

I don’t think the Biden administration should ever do anything based on the right’s reaction, because it doesn’t matter what they do - the reaction will always be fake outrage. Even if they think they shouldn’t outright encourage it — and I could see an argument for that — they should at least refrain from taking this condescending tone and belittling protests. That’s why I call it tone-deaf. It’s offensive to people who’ve protested and are actively involved in the issue, and these are the last people they should be offending.

The Bidens should be encouraging people to protest, not belittling protesters. Sure, yes, vote, we know that, but this is way too important to just say that and stop there. People are going to need to take to the streets before it’s too late.

When I saw that quote, what I remembered was all the Bernie people in California who went to his rallies, but didn’t bother to vote.

“Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that’s running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of Trump’s mind!

No fucking “exceptions”. Abortion on demand. No questions, no limits.

The challenges to curtailing traveling across state lines and receiving abortifacient pills in the mail are significant.

As long as those two things exist, they aren’t gonna be preventing all that many abortions

I would never even think of not voting for Democrats in every election. I’ve done it most of my life, except for that one time when I was whacked out.

Now am I allowed to criticize the Biden administration? Because they’re doing some really dumb shit lately.

170
Charles Johnson  Jul 16, 2022 • 5:25:10pm

The only reason I even bother criticizing them is because I want them to improve their shit. I want to help Biden win the next election if he runs, because he’s losing people he shouldn’t be losing right now.

Jia Tolentino:

“…In the early modern era, European attitudes began to change. The Black Death had dramatically lowered the continent’s population, and dealt a blow to most forms of economic activity; the Reformation had weakened the Church’s position as the essential intermediary between the layman and God. The social scientist Silvia Federici has argued, in her book “Caliban and the Witch,” that church and state waged deliberate campaigns to force women to give birth, in service of the emerging capitalist economy. “Starting in the mid-16th century, while Portuguese ships were returning from Africa with their first human cargoes, all the European governments began to impose the severest penalties against contraception, abortion, and infanticide,” Federici notes. Midwives and “wise women” were prosecuted for witchcraft, a catchall crime for deviancy from procreative sex. For the first time, male doctors began to control labor and delivery, and, Federici writes, “in the case of a medical emergency” they “prioritized the life of the fetus over that of the mother.” She goes on: “While in the Middle Ages women had been able to use various forms of contraceptives, and had exercised an undisputed control over the birthing process, from now on their wombs became public territory, controlled by men and the state.”
