Picking up from downstairs:

re: #117 Hecuba’s daughter

I am skeptical about the accuracy of COVID reporting in red states, but I decided to take a look at worldometer handling of France and observed that deaths this summer were significantly higher than the comparable period in 2020 and 2021; same is true in Spain and Germany. Seems like a very worrying trend.

I think that’s partly due to the same factors driving the resurgence here: Mainly too many people being too lax and not giving a shit about Covid anymore.

One of the Jackbox party pack games has a variation on that. It’s a two player version where one player talks and the other player choose the slides.

I don’t normally play MegaMillions, but lottery commissions must be having good sales because they keep raising today’s (annuitized) jackpot. Started out at $790M, then went to $810M, now at $830M.

For us out here in California, that makes the after-tax cash value $306M.

Very tempting.

Eventually they’ll be called “camps”.

There is no hiding their inner urges.

Trump could read from Mein Kampf and his marks would cheer him.

re: #13 jaunte

The person in the reply is overthinking it. Of course he hasn’t thought of any of those things. He just wants those dirty nasty homeless people *gestures vaguely* gone. Whatever happens to them once they leave the city limits doesn’t matter to him - the thought wouldn’t even occur to him. They’re no longer his problem (not that they were to begin with), and anything that happens to them, up to and including being shot en masse by the rightful landowners of the area, is neither his fault nor his concern.

These boxcars were called “Hooverville” in the 1930’s.

A house like this in California would cost 7 figures today.

I’ve actually witnessed this. Pieces and parts can go a very long distance with this much powder. Duck, cover, and hide behind a large tree until all the pieces come back to earth.

What’s going to do us in first?
1) Monkeypox;
2) Marburg virus;
3) Coronavirus variant like the MERS variant.

Pick you apocalypse.

Dark humor I suppose.

But this is what was expected. As human population grows, and we build a global economy, there simply is no way to hide from any of a large number of diseases that once might have stayed local, but now will become pandemics.

just pull up historic records of the Japanese internment camps, Federal government still owns most of that land. And they’re mostly located where city people won’t have to see it.

Or maybe, just maybe, an employer hires people who can best work with all their customers, including the ones who speak Spanish.

You could, you know, learn Spanish. Improve your employability by improving your skills.
