If in its temper tantrum the GOP blocks healthcare for Vets and marriage equality because it opposes reducing drug prices for seniors and carbon emissions, you can make a helluva attack ad based on those four issues. Combined with gasoline prices dropping, the revelations of the J6 Committee and the horror of what the GOP plans to do to women revealed since Dobbs, Democrats midterm election polling just keeps getting better. We still have a long away to go to retain control of Congress though.

re: #279 terraincognita

A vote for Godlewski still a solid vote. My early vote was for Barnes—figured he would be the eventual primary winner. Really an impressive array of candidates going after the Democratic nomination. Now let’s just get the Fascio-McCheddarhead Johnson out of there in November. Baldwin and Barnes from Wisconsin—getting back to progressive state normal.

Any polling figures re the WI Senate race yet?
From what I have read, Mandela Barnes would certainly make a better Senator than Ron Johnson (though that bar to hurdle is virtually subterranean) - but from what I understand (probably wrongly, though) the WI GOP is pretty well-ensconced and electorally disciplined - they will likely do a full-court press for the General, and (AFAIK) are at least even-odds to prevail.

That said, if Johnson’s response to the news of Sarah Godlewski’s pullout is typical (poormouth gibbering about “radical socialist leftists” IIRC), there’s a lot of room for campaigning…..

His “Conservative views” seem to be that you can override an election if white nationalists aren’t happy with the outcome. Fuck this guy. A social studies teacher should know better than to support a seditionist failed politician.

“You destroyed my career, my character, my life, my marriage,” Moorehead said. “I might lose my house.” At this point, Moorehead’s voice slightly cracked. He then continued.

“All because some of you did not like my political, conservative views,” he said. “Shame on you. And the rest are too afraid to stand up and do what is right. Thank you.”

As always, it’s the whining & victimization. These are people who have been told for 40 years by Fox News & Hate Radio that they are the Very Special Ones, the only True Americans, and they’ve internalized that to the point where they feel like they have an absolute right to do as they like at all times.

It’s why they all freaked out so much over mask mandates, lockdowns & vaccinations.

It’s also clear that Schumer hasn’t had his head up his ass this whole time. He knew that his opportunities to pull a stunt like this were going to be extremely limited. When one came along, he was very clearly ready to sell it to the notoriously fickle Senator from West Virginia.

Biden’s latest slate of nine new judicial nominees included Julie Rikelman, an abortion rights lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights whom the president picked to serve on the Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The nomination, which Republicans are likely to oppose in the narrowly Democratic-controlled Senate, came a month after the conservative-majority Supreme Court overturned Roe, which for nearly five decades had guaranteed women nationally a constitutional right to obtain abortions.

A federal judge in Cincinnati has expanded a temporary exemption to a Department of Defense COVID-19 vaccine mandate to cover thousands of service members in the U.S. Air Force and Space Force, according to court documents.

District Court Judge Matthew McFarland, who was appointed to the court by former President Donald Trump in 2018, granted the class-wide preliminary injunction on Wednesday.

It applies to all active-duty, active reserve, reserve, national guard, inductees and appointees of the Air Force and Space Force who are seeking a religious exemption to the vaccine mandate, the documents state.

The order stems from a class-action lawsuit filed in February by 18 active-duty and reservist personnel stationed across the country, including at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Golf? Athletic??????
Hell, if I wanted to be a lower middle class asshole with pretensions of appearing well-off and connected, *I* could play golf like my father did practically every weekend.

I’d play it badly, just as I play any sport badly because I suck at all sports, even the ones that don’t require actual strength, endurance, and athleticism (like golf and bowling), but the only reason I’d work up a sweat on the golf course is if I’m playing in summer or it’s a sunny day.

Seriously, for most golfers, you drive the cart out to the tee, hit the ball, get back in the cart, drive it to where the ball landed, get out of the cart, hit the ball again, get back in the cart, and repeat the process.

The only danger for the nonathletic is looking like a doofus if you fail to hit the ball on your swing. The psychological damage to one’s pride is the worst challenge one faces when playing golf.

If a teacher felt the need to attend that shit show, it’s a matter of “when, not if” before they start some sort of MAGAty shit in front of their students: making them pray during class, complaining about the curriculum being “woke”, refusing to address students by their requested pronouns, etc.

Attending a rally where the fucking President of the United States is trying to start a riot by lying about the election speaks a lot about a person’s character. And that character is “I have a hard time recognizing reality and probably shouldn’t be in charge of large groups of children.”

With a shortage of snacks, he comes in offering free candy for just their name and a contact number. Craig knows what’s up, but no one will listen. Then, after the kids are all dependent on him for candy, he starts taking over the forest, kicking the kids out with the help of his henchmen.

Last month, a tiny town in North Carolina hired a Black woman to manage their city. The celebration of diversity quickly waned; after just two weeks, the police force walked off the job en mass, including all four full-time officers, two town clerks, and the police chief—all of whom are white.

Kenly, population 1,800, is a community that is neither majority Black nor majority white. According to Data USA, the city is made up of 36.1% Black residents and 35.7% white residents. The remainder are white (Hispanic), other (Hispanic), and multiracial (Hispanic).

Hopefully that is it. And not that they are so vile that they are mocking the death of Beau Biden. But a lot of those responding to that tweet think that was the motivation. I had never considered that possibility but if you are going to express anger at a perfectly normal political maneuver what better way than striking out against a program that is really important and deeply personal to the President.
