Today’s program from our podcasting affiliate, The Bob Cesca Show:

Make Attorneys Get Attorneys — [Explicit Content] Trump sues the FBI to stop its search of document seized from Mar-a-lago. The hilariously shoddy legal filing, Trump always makes things worse for Trump. Trump confessed to violating the Presidential Records Act. DOJ has recovered 300 documents from Trump including CIA and NSA files. Trump may have aided his lawyer in lying to the FBI. Michael Cohen’s theory about why Trump kept the documents. More documents found in Trump’s office. The National Archives letter to Trump’s lawyer. Executive privilege. Ron DeSantis threatens to kill “the woke.” Bellwether special election in New York. Republican messaging sucks. With Buzz Burbank, music by Betsy Ade and the Well-Known Strangers, Afton Wolfe, and more!

CL’d - brought forward in case someone wants to read the article linked in the tweet. Synchron had first US human implant this summer (after small, successful human trial OUS).

re: #189 William Lewis

That or he reread “Neuromancer” and mistook it for fact.

Synchron tech has moved beyond vapor ware and has had some human implants. Musk’s Neuralink is not there yet and, from what I’ve seen, still has a long way to go. From what I’ve heard, one reason Musk is interested in Synchron (besides their being beyond vaporware) is that Synchron, like an experienced medical device company, planned for means to extract the device if needed and Neuralink has shortcomings in that regard.

The High Plains tropical update:

The Atlantic basin is becoming active.

Disturbance #1 is now several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. It is not expected to develop over the next five days.

Disturbance #2 has formed east of the Windward Islands, north of French Guyana. It is moving west-by-north, and is expected to move into the eastern Caribbean Sea within five days, with a 20% chance of development.

Disturbance #3 has formed over Mali, near the border with Senegal. It is expected to move out over the Atlantic Ocean to the west of the Cabo Verde Islands within five days, with a 20% chance of development.

Also of questionable legality because they are putting the “Employee Benefit” under their charged tax section, and is not paid to said employees. A business collecting any “tax” and not forwarding it to appropriate state/local agencies, or misrepresenting what taxes are collected tend to be frowned upon (kind phrasing of tax fraud).

So my computer screen blacked out this morning when I woke up. Tried a reboot - never got anything but black. Actually went to BestBuy to pick up a cheap machine I could swap the hard drive with(I know…problematic) but they were only doing curbside pickup so I came home and took it to the local PC repair shop on the coast. And would you belive it…the damn thing did a full restart when I turned it on. So, bullet dodged. I did pay a hundred bucks for a 1TB external drive and copied over all of my files - there aren’t that many of them. What I really need to back up are all of my sites and passwords. Will probably do that next. Financial shit, family shit…all that. What a fright.

California Sales tax is not 10.25% either. That’s a state tax + a local city/county tax on top of it.

The statewide tax rate is 7.25%. In most areas of California, local jurisdictions have added district taxes that increase the tax owed by a seller. Those district tax rates range from 0.10% to 1.00%. Some areas may have more than one district tax in effect. Sellers are required to report and pay the applicable district taxes for their taxable sales and purchases.

It turns out that you can’t just do whatever you want even if you’re a pro-bigotry church.

The McAllen church that staged two unauthorized performances of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Hamilton has apologized and will pay an unspecified amount in damages.

The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries, a nondenominational church in the border city, posted a statement on its Instagram account on Tuesday morning, acknowledging that it “did not ask for, or receive, a license from the producers or creators of Hamilton to produce, stage, replicate or alter any part of Hamilton; nor did we seek prior permission to alter Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work by changing the music, the lyrics, deleting songs, and adding dialogue.”

The church also apologized to Miranda, the musical’s producers and others who contributed to Hamilton.

Only reason I knew that they did was due to a niche military/nation running game called Supreme Ruler Ultimate.

Russia in a modern start (2018?) has a very large military and it’s possible to goad them into declaring war on Norway.* Russia’s military then tries to do two things:
1. Overrun Norway through that narrow piece of border - where you can mass artillery and supporting naval ships and build a killing ground that they proceed to grind themselves in.
2. Pile onto ships in St Petersburgh and then sail down a narrow strait towards the Baltic Sea in order to attempt sea invasion. This can be met by submarines and naval forces.
3. Constant air skirmishing with the Russian Air Force. So strong SAM units are needed. Once again, naval units often can provide support here.

* - Or war on an alliance where Norway is the only enemy of Russia they have a land border with. And you have a chance to deal with Kalingrad’s forces before Russia decides that Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania need to be overrun for reasons.

Florida Governor and presumed 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis traveled to Ohio recently to stump for Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance. But a set of blatantly unethical restrictions on journalists looking to cover the event meant that very few legitimate news outlets were willing to attend.

The pairing of DeSantis and Vance makes sense, as DeSantis has been leaning in hard to opposing “wokeism” as a central tenet of his political career and Vance—aka the Hillbilly Elegy guy—literally doesn’t seem to have anything else in his entire platform. The event was being hosted by Turning Point USA, an extreme right-wing student training organization founded by Charlie Kirk. In all, it’s hardly surprising that this group of professional trolls would try to intimidate and control media outlets.

Unsurprisingly, Journalists Are Not Willing To Break Ethical Boundaries for JD Vance and Ron DeSantis (The Mary Sue)

re: #102 Charles Johnson

Just found out that I have until October 1st to get everything moved to the new server. So I’m gonna have to crack down, put the nose to the grindstone, and burn the midnight oil.

Biggest immediate issue - the PEAR database abstraction library I’ve been using for years to do pretty much everything may not work with the latest version of PHP/MySQL. And MySQL is now MariaDB, supposedly compatible. I have a lot to investigate.

Ganbatte!

I’ve never had a problem moving a database from MySQL to MariaDB, but it’s been a couple of years since the last one.

This is my prayer to the gods of MySQL that I don’t have to convert every database call in the entire LGF system to use PDO instead of MDB2.

There is a beta unreleased version of MDB2 on Github that may have fixed the issue that made it incompatible with PHP.

There’s always an outlier. June 7, Mendocino CA, gas price well over $9 per gallon.

It’s probably a one gas station in town monopoly situation, with the owner perhaps also being a wingnut well paid under the table by Republican ratfuckers to make headlines this way.
