re: #14 jaunte

From the linked article:

Far-right attacks on LGBTQ+ events are spiking around the country. In response, communities in North Texas are organizing for self-defense.(emphasis added)

The self defense measures were dramatically successful.

Earlier in the month, similar scenes of far-right intimidation played out in San Francisco, California, and Wilmington, North Carolina. In both instances, Proud Boys stormed into public libraries during Pride-themed storytime events where they menaced and hurled slurs at attendees and their children. Police did not stop the Proud Boys from entering the buildings and no arrests were made in either instance, although the San Francisco incident is being investigated by authorities as a potential hate crime. And on the same weekend as the incident in McKinney, Proud Boys turned out to a drag brunch in Sparks, Nevada, and sent people fleeing when one man approached the library with a gun.

Back in McKinney, Texas, though, the Proud Boys never made it inside the building. Having witnessed failures by authorities to prevent such hateful harassment all throughout Pride month, dozens of parents and antifascist activists formed a wall of bodies to block the facistic gang from entering the library.

I think this will become a trend that will accelerate exponentially once potential victims realize just how cowardly and weak minded the MAGAts and their fascist cosplay allies are. Their constant posturing and non-stop threats are proof of the MAGAts’ cowardice. They are shitting-their-pants scared all the time. As the article points out, anti-LGBTQ gangsters ran wild all over the country until an organized group stood up to them.
I don’t like to say it because I know that intelligent and liberal minded people prefer peaceful solutions, but force will work on MAGAts, just as it solved the problem of the Third Reich, and there is some possibility that the process will get out of control when their long suffering victims finally hit back. Frankly I am willing to take the chance. This is essentially what happened in France during the Revolution. The peasants realized they could stand up to their aritstocratic tormenters, and heads rolled.

Better yet, they could burn down his house.

They could also just dry out the pensioners and burn them. There is sort of a precedent. There were claims, probably apochryphal, that British-run railroads burned ancient mummies as boiler fuel in 19th century Egypt.
We could also export freeze-dried MAGAts, which…..nah, won’t go there.

Here’s a poem I wrote earlier I thought you all might enjoy:

MOUNTAINS

I hear the voice of the mountains.
It’s loud and it’s bold and it’s clear.
It dances its way through the cliffs edge
And then, on the wind, disappears.

I hear the voice of the mountains,
As it rumbles through the ocean of rock.
It resonates along the riverbank,
It carries on the wings of the hawk.

I hear the voice of the mountains,
The way it sounded so long, long ago.
Preserved by the beauty of nature,
And peaks that are crowned with fresh snow.

I hear the voice of the mountains,
As I’ve never heard it before.
Through all the trees and the trails
Rolls the unmistakable roar.

I hear the voice of the mountains.
It’s strong and majestic and pure.
It’s not like anything else on this earth.
And by the hand of God, will endure.

My inspiration was this photo I took in Zion National Park:

The fascists don’t have all the guns. As I have said, the war is here and local police are indeed largely sympathetic to the enemy. We have to make the necessary adjustments. One of the fascists’ big weaknesses is their habit of performative display. In contrast, there could have been 20 armed anti-fascists on overwatch at this event and nobody would have known it.

I am very hesitant to use the term “fascist” as it does get misused a lot, but there are times when it describes a nationalist, racist, militaristic, authoritarian world view and then I don’t hesitate to apply it.

When did the GOP become a party of jerks?

If I had to pinpoint a moment, it would involve John McCain and him attempting to say that Obama was an “decent person”, just someone he disagreed with, getting booed by the crowd and later turning around to see that nobody else in the party was backing him up.

Flashback: McCain tells supporter Obama is ‘a decent…

I remember Gingrich talking about Obama’s “Kenyan world view”.

Not Kenyan in the sense of “a former British colony that won its independence” but rather Kenyan in the sense of “armed Mau-Maus rampaging with machetes killing whites.”

This is a big deal. Matt Chandler pastors “The Village Church” in Flower Mound, Texas (DFW area) and he’s going on a leave of absence.

The details from the article are this: he allegedly had a “direct message” relationship with a woman at his church who was not his wife. He describes it as “familiarity” and “coarse and foolish joking.” But this is the heart of the matter—it was more than that. Chandler himself told his congregation this morning:

“Several months ago, a woman…met me out here in the lobby, and she had some concerns about how I was using the DM function on Instagram to message with one of her friends,” Chandler said. “At the time when she brought it up, I saw no issue with it. My wife knew about it. This woman’s husband knew about it. And so I kind of pushed against that not being okay. She said some things in that conversation, though, that were really disorienting for me.”

I dunno about you, but just nobody approaches the pastor of a huge Southern Baptist church in the lobby of the church and publicly airs concerns about how he’s using the DM function on Instagram. It takes a LOT of guts to do it, so I suspect the behavior was unwanted, egregious and causing a lot of problems for the woman on the receiving end. Chandler claims the conversations were “not romantic, nor was it ever sexual, it was unguarded and it was unwise.” I don’t buy what he’s saying here.

Chandler claimed to the church body that he would be there as pastor for the next 20 years, and I can tell you based on my gut feeling—there is a lot more here we don’t know about and no, he’s not going to be there for the next 20 years.

I think for me it was Gingrich in office, but going back, I think the Baldwin v Buckley debate is still important today. Buckley called Baldwin an ‘eloquent menace’ but that term should be used to describe Buckley. I think all high school kids should see that debate and read about it.

The reality that Buckley still seems to be more revered than Baldwin tells us where we’re at WRT race relations and the GOP. The resonant shockwaves from 1964 are still with us to this day.

I wouldn’t expect that he carries his own piano on tour but I’d bet he hires his own technician to tune and voice it. Most artists of that caliber probably have local technicians in the areas where they’re touring or perhaps he just has one on tour with him all the time.

One more complaint…after buying the phone they take you upstairs to the idiot lounge where you download the backup from the iCloud over store wifi. After 35 minutes she still had 9 GB to download and I started doing other tests - sending texts and mail and shit to see if it notified her - it did. I called over a “Genius” and said their wifi sucks and they said well, there are a lot of people updating devices in the idiot lounge right now you see…so I said, “Can’t we finish this shit at home?” and they said yes. So we left. Took about 10 minutes after we got home for her phone to finish.

I’ll probably wait to see what the 14 series looks like before upgrading but I don’t necessarily need the latest and greatest. I may well end up just getting a 13 after they price drop following the 14 rollout.

Also, I never bother with those “idiot lounges”. I take my phone home and set up my own shit.

137
Charles Johnson  Aug 28, 2022 • 3:28:47pm

Most confusing part of USB C is that all cables are NOT the same. They can’t all carry the same amounts of data or power for charging; the ones you need for external 4K+ monitors can get expensive.

138
BigPapa  Aug 28, 2022 • 3:30:22pm

My biggest gripe besides the connector: why even have a 1 amp power supply? Should be illegal to have less than 2.5. 3hrs to charge is insane.

139
Charles Johnson  Aug 28, 2022 • 3:31:27pm

And not all hubs/docks are the same either. For decent fast charging you need a hub that will supply at least 80 watts of power on USB C, preferably more. I got an OWC hub with a power brick bigger than the hub for that reason.

It was a lovely sounding instrument, voice, tone and touch ( I played it a few times when it was in the studio), but a BPITA for the roadies.

The cradle that was constructed to transport the piano weighed as much as the piano.

re: #118 darthstar

So I took my wife to Tim Apple’s store today to get her a new phone - the iPhone 13. She was on a 10S…so it was time to update. I got excited when they guy said they were all USB-C - because that’s what I use on my Pixel. Turns out it’s USB-C mini…fuckers. The MacBook Air is USB-C - why couldn’t they use the same size fuckin’ plug?

I got a new iPhone 13 a couple weeks ago. It is a considerable upgrade from my previous iPhone 6…

They’re still more or less down and it’s looking more and more likely cloudflare is going to deplatform them.

A resourceful network engineer managed to tunnel our server so we could get a completely up-to-date copy of the database and attachments. Even in a worst case scenario, there will be no data loss.

If you want to send him some sats for a new laptop, his BTC wallet is 17dnK5LdCb9zsBB9yjFtKTs2myVr6J8aZQ and XMR is 49kNeGqkLCpSGzGRtvTP9WanQcHrSGs1r8BUkhmA1yb1NHcXKkknm4rgvCviurk1jaXAfk5YGS7iaSZ2bQmZswNw1VxTy6B.

If I don’t hear good news from upstream by tomorrow, I will prepare to leave them behind. The mob on Twitter is promising a final solution to the Kiwi Farms on Monday at the same time. If that is not an empty threat, this might be coming to a head tomorrow night.

I wouldn’t expect that he carries his own piano on tour but I’d bet he hires his own technician to tune and voice it. Most artists of that caliber probably have local technicians in the areas where they’re touring or perhaps he just has one on tour with him all the time.

I seem to recall the guy who used to tune my Kawai telling me when he tuned professionally in Florida, he was generally contracted to tune the piano again during intermissions. Professional musicians tend to be touchy about that sort of stuff.

While there was some very good analysis and correction to that guy’s breakdown of cost-of-living versus salaries since the early 1970s, in general, he was on the mark. We’ve known it for a long time. This was something that Elizabeth Warren campaigned on and why I supported her over Biden. The trickle-down shit and the legislation that has followed (and been enhanced by the most corporate-friendly SCOTUS in our history) has created a gaping maw in our society that the GOP can only explain by the most twisted “boot straps” and “moral hazards, oh my” thinking we’ve seen since the late 1800s.

Getting Herbie Hancock’s Fazioli piano into a venue in Portsmouth, NH:

Some musicians have riders listing requirements for a concert, like a certain color M&M. Others require a certain instrument.

Or you’re Herbie Hancock, one of the world’s largest pianos.

Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club in Portsmouth made sure Hancock’s preferred piano, a Fazioli Grand Piano, was on stage for his concerts Tuesday and Wednesday. The club used a crane to lift the 1,200 pound piano through a window on Monday while Congress Street was shut down, according to the club’s Facebook page.

The piano measures 9’ 2” from front to back, which the club said required a lot of “ingenuity, muscle and heavy equipment” to bring inside.

The piano costs $361,500 and had to be insured, the club wrote on the page.

Hancock said on the Fazioli website that “your pianos can, with the sound of one note, announce the celebration of the freedom and creativity of the human spirit.”

Canadian musician Angela Hewitt is also a fan of the Faziolo Grand Piano, but the one she had used personally since 2003 was dropped by instrument movers in Berlin in 2020 after a recording session.

After being inspected by company representatives, it was deemed unsalvageable.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
3 Dutch soldiers were wounded in a shooting outside an Indianapolis hotel, authorities say

Three Royal Netherlands Army soldiers were wounded in a shooting outside an Indianapolis hotel early Saturday, authorities said.

The soldiers, members of the Dutch Commando Corps, were in Indiana as part of a training exercise, the Dutch Ministry of Defense said in a news release.
Officers responded to a Hampton Inn shortly before 4 a.m. and found three men with gunshot wounds, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
All three men were taken to a local hospital, with at least one of them in critical condition, authorities said.
*snip*
The Dutch soldiers had been training at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, a 1,000-acre complex southeast of Indianapolis that is being used for training by the Department of Defense “as well as other allies,” the Indiana National Guard told CNN affiliate WISH in a statement.

Billy Corben @BillyCorben
Rubio hasn’t had a real job since he babysat his brother-in-law’s cocaine stash house in 1985. His sugar daddy, Miami car oligarch and former Philadelphia Eagles owner Norman Braman, financed his entire political life and even bought him a teaching job at FIU. #BecauseMiami

Good to see this.

Billy Corben is a well known documentary film maker, and a credible S FL political gadfly. Which is sorely needed in Miami-Dade politics.
