Speaking of which, the reactionary Texas judge’s ruling that employers don’t have to cover HIV medicine because they have a religious right to practice their hatred of gays is even worse than you think and could blow up the ACA.

The British Empire directly or indirectly killed millions of people and was the direct cause of some of the worst territorial disputes the world has ever known, and are still ongoing, including - but not limited to - Israel-Palestine and India-Pakistan. If you think that’s benign, I’m glad you’re not a doctor.

William and Kate have officially been named Prince and Princess of Wales.

This means we now have a Princess of Wales for the first time since 1997.

Good for them: I thought the title had to be formally “invested”: but I guess now that Chaz Trey’s the King, it can be done via Royal Command or whatever: so does this mean Wills and Kate have to learn Welsh now? Or tie leeks on their hats for St. David’s Day???

Five Hoosier women and a religious abortion-rights group filed a new lawsuit in Marion County on Thursday challenging Indiana’s near-total abortion ban on the grounds of religious freedom.

Hoosier Jews for Choice and the five women — who are residents of Marion, Monroe and Allen counties — claim that the ban violates the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act from 2015, also known as RFRA. The act, which was signed into effect by then-Gov. Mike Pence, prevents the government from impeding someone’s religious exercise unless there’s a strong argument in favor of the state’s interest.

The defendants in the case include members of the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana and prosecutors in five counties, including Marion County. IndyStar has reached out to the licensing board and the Indiana Attorney General’s Office for comment.

And with respect to voting machines, even if they were proven to be hacked and/or not compliant with state or federal regulations, the legal remedy is, “Okay, fine, use of those machines is discontinued. State has to buy new ones.” You don’t get a do-over on an election even if you prove there is widespread fraud.

Seriously, do these idiots not comprehend that linear time is a thing? The election happened. It’s over. There is no law on the books that says, “If you sue under this statute and prove your case, you get to redo the election.” That is simply not a thing in the U.S. Code. The best the courts can do is, “Okay, fine, we’ll issue whatever injunctions we need to and then the state will have to do it differently next time.” There is no going back in time.

From LEX18:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A University of Kentucky professor and department chair is charged with incest, sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 12, and sodomy.

Kevin Real, chair of the UK Department of Communication, was arrested Thursday. A UK spokesperson tells LEX 18 that Real has been placed on administrative leave and is not on campus.

“The university is aware of this issue and takes it very seriously,” said UK spokesperson Jay Blanton.

Real is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center. The county’s jail website says a $15,000 cash bond was set for his sodomy charge.

According to Real’s curriculum vitae, he has been a professor at UK’s Department of Communication since 2002.

No matter how egregious the claim, or bogus the operating principle, or lacking the evidence, still less the legal legs-to-stand-on, TFG and his hired creatures will simply file the motion: then rely on Dolt 45’s rambling, angry, self-obsessed “truthies” to get his fanbase riled up in righteous fury against how “awfully” Their Idol has been so disrespectfully persecuted by [insert Trump/RW boogeyman HERE].

Good for them: I thought the title had to be formally “invested”: but I guess now that Chaz Trey’s the King, it can be done via Royal Command or whatever: so does this mean Wills and Kate have to learn Welsh now? Or tie leeks on their hats for St. David’s Day???

In fact Charles’ investiture was the first in a very long time. Since the title is created by letters patent, the ceremony is optional, and had fallen into disuse before 1969.

Yeah, I’m old enough to remember when that happened: IIRC, the media (as hungry for pageantry back then as now or ever) made a Big Deal over it: though what I remember mostly about it was the Firesign Theater’s parody “coverage”, complete with comic jibber-jabber in “Welsh” (not that most listeners would have known the difference, anyway)….

to be fair, the Klingons do have some problematic views about the value of other races.

Tapper gets paid the big bucks to generate this drivel. This is just another compelling data point against the farcical view that the all-powerful market fairly rewards everyone for the value of their contributions.

the link i got was paywalled so i’m not including it

that lawsuit by trump against clinton, strozk et al that was dismissed today?

apparently Trump’s lawyers had sought recusal of the judge on the basis of his being a Clinton appointee, arguing that it was inevitable that his political impartiality would therefore be questioned

just a reminder, not appointed by Clinton because she was never president

but Cannon is cool even though spy45 appointed her after he lost reelection

In no way is this another Trump scam meant to bilk saps out of $1.3 Bill.

thestreet.com

No way a website with virtually no ad revenue is anything other than a complete 100% scam.

btw- “80” + mill future members for this hate-filled Trump freak show? Right now it’s less than 4 million and that’s with its leader not behind bars…yet.

Waiting for the response from my British BiL who hates the monarchy. Personally, I think the British monarchy should end, now. Preferably with all the current living members of the family in the center of the conflagration. YMMV.

Pretty sure I’ve made this comment before; the antivaxxers are going to cause a resurgence in pertussis, polio, mumps, and measles. Look forward to an increase in childhood mortality and sterility for those that survive.

Just wait a bit longer. Light rain started in Laverne about a half-hour ago, and temps have dropped from 92 to 88, and are continuing to decline. Nice fresh breeze make it feel even better.

re: #167 I Would Prefer Not To

trump aint getting another ride on Air Force One. Hopefully the Obamas will.

Trump has his own airplane. It’s not airworthy right now and might get shot down over Land’s End if it was, but he keeps telling us how filthy rich he is. So, you know, he should be able to rent a Gulfstream 5 and fly nonstop to Luton.
