re: #1 Belafon

my understanding is that we still have about 40k worth of votes left in Pima County which has been running about 65-35 in favor of Hobbs, if that holds true and there are any coattails for AZ01 and AZ06, it could tip the balance in all three races. The last dump involved Maricopa precincts that are in Biggs Congressional district, which shaved the lead by 8K and flipped AZ01 back to the GOP by less than 1K votes. So, we’re not done yet, although it looks more promising for Hobbs with what votes are left and there’s still hope for the house races as well.

I’ve been bantering with some seemingly rational folks in AZ. Tonight was good but not good enough for Lake: this may be the reddest biased drops from here on out. Pima has 35k votes out and has been +20 for Hobbs. Lake needs more than 60% of everything remaining to have a shot.

Instead of “tweets” perhaps you can call the posts on your service “chirps”.

Which means the service should have a bird name…

…of course, everyone is also waiting for resolution of the Arizona gubernatorial race. As of 11:00 p.m. PT Saturday, Katie Hobbs (D) has 50.7% of the vote (1,156,448 votes) and Kari Lake (R) has 49.3% (1,122,319) with 88% reporting. That means that to win, Lake would need about 55.5% of the roughly 310,000 votes remaining. When we did this exercise on Friday, that number was 53%. When we did it on Saturday, it was 54%. You don’t need us to tell you where this is headed. (Z)

I think the remaining number is bigger. This type of math isn’t my strong suit but I came up with this:
26011 Hobbs lead
160021 Remaining votes
17% differential
27204 Makeup for Lake

I see Lake needing to beat Hobbs by 17% from here on out on every drop.

And so far as I’ve seen, the drops she has been ahead on have only come in at around 54% for her, which is why she’s falling behind. With every drop where she fails to make that margin, the margin she needs to hit gets bigger.

42
BigPapa  Nov 13, 2022 • 7:58:06pm

re: #41 Dopamine Fish

Exactly. If Pima drops at 60/40 Hobbs which is totally within reason Lake’s remaining ratio needs to hit 70.5% vs 29.5% against Hobbs. There’s just not enough Red areas leaning that Red left.

re: #42 BigPapa

Hoping that the Pima vote helps Engel in AZ06 defeat Ciscomani, it’s within reach, but it may be just out of reach. Better Maricopa numbers may help Hodge defeat Schweikert as their race is even closer.

While those two will likely not turn the House blue, it would certainly not hurt.

It feels like funny math to say, “Yes, she’s gaining votes, but not as fast as she needs to gain votes in order to win the election.” It’s like measuring the acceleration of a car. You only have so much room to get to 88 mph, and if your foot isn’t all the way in the gas, you’re not going to make it.

We got better at talking to each other thanks to the Internet and people let us know they were being hurt. Decent people cleaned up their act, but some people can’t do that and would rather pretend to be victims.

Actor and comedian Andy Richter’s take on cancel culture can be summed up in three words: Bring it on.

“It’s about time. It’s about time we stop saying lots of the things that we say and it’s about time that we stopped not caring about things that we say that we don’t have to say, like words that we don’t have to use,” Conan O’Brien’s sidekick tells host Andy Levy on this bonus episode of The New Abnormal podcast. “For the most part, people that have gotten in trouble deserve to get in trouble. And the whole point of it is, five years ago they wouldn’t have gotten in trouble. So this is good.”

I dunno about that: much as I’d like to believe it, I think that Biden’s “approval” ratings are going to be skewed by the hardcore 35-40% of wingnut haters who won’t ever approve of any Democrat, plus the portside fringe - Berniebros and the like - who won’t ever be satisfied with anyone except maybe another Lenin. Personally, I think Joe has been doing a bang-up job, given what he has to work with (no wide Congressional margins, for one thing, and a reflexively hostile Media for another): but that may just be me.

56
ipsos  Nov 13, 2022 • 8:48:53pm

re: #53 Captain Ron

“Approval ratings” have always struck me as being bullshit, in part because you don’t know WHY people who say they “disapprove” are saying so. General frustration at the state of the world? Unhappy that the president is doing too much - or too little? And they completely miss the nuance that an intelligent voter might “disapprove” of one aspect of a politician’s performance but would absolutely still vote for them. (I thought Obama was way too wishy-washy about getting judges nominated, but still gladly voted for him.)

I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I think it’s really opened the Star Wars IP up for more good work.

Unfortunately, it has not been doing great in terms of viewership. The show has lagged behind The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi and is barely doing higher numbers than The Mandalorian despite that show not having released a new episode in almost two years.

All of this means Disney is less likely to make more SW shows like Andor.

If I had to guess, I would say part of the problem is that Cassian Andor is not a major name in the franchise. Mandalorians/Boba Fett and Darth Vader/Obi-Wan Kenobi are among the oldest and most iconic characters in all of Star Wars. It stands to reason shows featuring them would draw more eyeballs than a show about a character from a six year old prequel movie.

Also, Andy Serkis has been fucking awesome in Andor.

Just saw someone point out over at Fark that the folks at 538 published an article the day before the election where they stated the polls showed a 50/50 shot of the Dems prevailing…but then they threw the whole thing over to their experts, who just repeated the “red wave” talking points.

One of the Democrats won even though the odds were two to one against her. When you start talking about being within the margin of error in those cases, it really does point out how little polling helps understand what people will do.

It’s really telling that a lot of the voices insisting the polls were “wrong” are pundits who were all but wedded to the “red wave” narrative since last fall. That even when the polling improved for Dems after Dobbs dropped, they insisted on salting every article with “This doesn’t mean anything because the party in power always loses seats in the midterms.”

It turns out younger women and their supporters really like having their rights.

to quote from the above-referenced Scalzi post…

Here’s the problem for the GOP: Half the US population has (or had) a uterus, and the rest of the population knows and loves someone who has one. A lot of the US population knows and loves someone who is gay or may be trans or non-binary. More than half the US population, I expect, wants a reasonable expectation that their vote won’t be ignored if a state governor or secretary of state or legislature finds it somehow inconvenient.

All of which is to say, a platform of actively stripping people of their rights is (thankfully) not the way to generate a “wave” election. Even if the economy is not great and the president isn’t particularly popular. Strangely, if you make people choose, they will value their own rights, and the rights of those they care for, more than the price of a loaf of bread. Yes, you have to work at it to get the average US voter to that point! But, apparently, here we are.

Just saw someone point out over at Fark that the folks at 538 published an article the day before the election where they stated the polls showed a 50/50 shot of the Dems prevailing…but then they threw the whole thing over to their experts, who just repeated the “red wave” talking points.

Iiuc, 538 has two models - the polls-only one and the “deluxe” (cringe) one, the latter takes the so-called experts into account.

I went for a bike ride today. It warmed up early and I put on thermals and set off when it was 58 degrees. I only got about a quarter mile before the cold wind made my eyes water so I pulled my goggles down for their first test. They worked great and they cut down on a runny nose by about 80%. Normally I have to stop every 3 miles and let my nose stop running like a faucet. I went the full ride with no drips. If you ride in cold weather get some goggles.

BBC Monitoring set out to find how Russians get information about the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine war: Russians kept in the dark by internet search (three days ago)

Shortly after 20 people were killed in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk in June, Lev Gershenzon - a former manager at Russian tech company Yandex - typed the city’s name into its search engine to find out more.

The results he got back shocked him.

“The sources that ranked at the top of the page were strange and obscure,” he told the BBC. “There was one blog by an unknown author claiming that the information about casualties was fake.”

The Kremlin keeps a tight grip on the country’s media, especially TV, which glorifies Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a mission of liberation and dismisses reports of atrocities as fake.

The internet in Russia was for a long time the main space for alternative sources of information, but after starting the war in February the Kremlin launched a crackdown on independent online media.

Digital rights watchdog Roskomsvoboda estimates that - in the first six months of the conflict - nearly 7,000 websites were blocked in Russia, including those of major independent media and human rights groups.

The article goes on to describe the BBC’s experiment, by using a VPN to emulate a Russian IP address. Some of their resulting searches are shown on the Web page.

If this is true, it’s embarrassing. The Russians placed anti-tank obstacles called “Dragon’s Teeth” along the frontlines. They made a big show of it. But a lot of observers noted that these Dragon’s Teeth were very ‘downsized’ compared to normal ones.

(During the Cold War, the Germans used to call Dragon’s Teeth ‘Toublerone’. Referring to the similar shape of the candy.)

Dragon’s Teeth - Wiki

I suspect that the contract officers (and their chain of command) and the contracted company may have made a good side profit on this contract though.

Here is a supposed video of a Ukrainian armored vehicle going right over the teeth.

Ugh.

In the Board of Education District 7 race here in Nebraska (officially non-partisan but unofficially not), Elizabeth Tegtmeier (R) has been elected to the Board over Robin Stevens (D), 70.6% to 29.4%.

Tegtmeier home-schooled her son, and believes public education should be abolished, to be replaced with church schools, commercial schools, or homeschooling. She believes there should be no sex education at any level of schooling.

Her son stood accused this summer of sexually assaulting two women at Chadron State College. When they sought a restraining order, he argued that it is not assault unless the woman tells you “no” and you continue. The judge in Dawes County didn’t take well to that redefinition of sexual assault and granted the restraining order.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Aaron Appelhans is among a rare few in Wyoming: A Democrat who won in Tuesday’s midterm election in this ever-redder state.

After being appointed as Wyoming’s first Black sheriff almost a year ago, he is now the state’s first elected Black sheriff. He beat a 20-year Republican police veteran with 52% of the vote.

“Albany County’s kind of purple politically, so I was able to run on my record, the things that I’ve done,” Appelhans said Thursday.

Yet across Wyoming, Democrats suffered another dismal election even as their party defied expectations and did reasonably well nationwide.

Democrats didn’t even field candidates for three of Wyoming’s six statewide races, those for secretary of state, state treasurer and state auditor. They got just 25%, 17% and 23% in the other three, the contests for U.S. House, governor and superintendent of public instruction, respectively.

Tesla says it will assist police probe into fatal crash in China

BEIJING, Nov 13 (Reuters) - U.S. automaker Tesla (TSLA.O) said on Sunday it will assist Chinese police investigating a crash involving one of its Model Y cars after local media reports said two people had died and three were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The incident on Nov. 5 in the southern province of Guangdong killed a motorcyclist and a high school girl, Jimu News reported, posting a video of a car driving at high speed crashing into other vehicles and a cyclist.

“Police are currently seeking a third party appraisal agency to identify the truth behind this accident and we will actively provide any necessary assistance,” Elon Musk’s electric vehicle maker told Reuters in a message on Sunday, cautioning against believing “rumours”.

China is Tesla’s second-largest market, and the crash was among the top trending topics on the Weibo social media platform on Sunday.

Jimu News quoted traffic police as saying the cause of the incident in Chaozhou city had not been identified and an unnamed family member of the driver who said the 55-year-old had issues with the brake pedal when he was about to pull over in front of his family store.

Newsweek positioned political activist Josh Hammer to run their opinion pages during the runup to the 2020 presidential election, and since that time, the publication has taken a marked radical right turn by buoying extremists and promoting authoritarian leaders. (Southern Poverty Law Center Hatewatch)

Although opinion pages in ostensibly nonpartisan, mainstream publications promote political opinions, sometimes controversial ones, Newsweek stands alone among such brands in its willingness to elevate such figures as Jack Posobiec, known for promoting the Pizzagate disinformation campaign, and Dinesh D’Souza, whose film 2000 Mules researchers roundly debunked for spreading conspiracies about the 2020 election. Under Hammer’s leadership, Newsweek has also aired bigoted views, like appearing to call for the state to deny adults access to trans-affirming medical care and supporting a ban on all legal immigration into the U.S. They have also spread baseless conspiracies about COVID-19, with one of Hammer’s collaborators describing vaccines designed to fight the virus as a “bioweapon.”

Newsweek has also failed to disclose potential conflicts of interest emerging in the content published through Hammer’s opinion section and his Newsweek-branded podcast, “The Josh Hammer Show.” Hammer donated to the campaign of Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Blake Masters and at least four times published the work of a man who ran one of Masters’ fundraisers. On his podcast, Hammer told Newsweek’s audience to “go ahead and vote for Blake Masters.” Hammer also promoted hard-right Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán in a Newsweek dispatch authored from Hungary, without disclosing that he arrived there in collaboration with a group directly affiliated with the Hungarian government. Hammer also claims membership in a number of reactionary activist groups, and regularly publishes people who are also affiliated with them. He will appear on behalf of the New York Young Republican Club alongside Posobiec and QAnon influencer-turned-congressperson Marjorie Taylor Greene in December.

It is a growing majority - of Christians, which they still believe is the overall majority in this country (and maybe it is, at least in name). The problem I face is the steady radicalization of those who, pre-Trump, would never have considered themselves Christian Nationalists - and indeed, would have even shuddered at the term - but now, they’re like, “Well, if those godless libruls hate Christian Nationalism, then I must be a Christian Nationalist.” And to be clear, I’m not blaming the liberals here; it’s that Christian leaders have decided that their need to hate sinners (with the veiled racism and sexism that implies) outweighs their obligation to choose justice, to love mercy, to walk humbly.

One of the Democrats won even though the odds were two to one against her. When you start talking about being within the margin of error in those cases, it really does point out how little polling helps understand what people will do.

I wouldn’t trust polling for US rep districts anyways. I bet there was a very small sample of polls to draw from and the race was probably not polled often either.

Saying this based on the fact that the district I voted in had *one* poll listed in 538. From mid-September. It had the Democrat ahead by 6 (53-47). Interestingly enough, that is the margin the Democratic candidate won by. However, I wouldn’t hold that as 538 being right since a single poll from September done by one of the candidate’s campaigns is not something to hang an entire race projection on.

I seem to recall that most predictions for House seats are done based on the “generic Republican / generic Democrat” polls that are done nationwide, which seems like an extremely dangerous practice given that House districts, specifically, are 1) extremely gerrymandered, and 2) extremely local (meaning that there may be specific local issues that outweigh whatever national narratives are unfolding in the overall election).

electoral-vote.com this morning

53%, 54%, 55.5%. yup, headed in the wrong direction

they think she’s been toast for a while

and now today’s update:

That doesn’t mean Lake’s in good shape, though. With 93% of the vote reporting, Democrat Katie Hobbs has 50.5% of the vote (1,211,595 votes) and Lake has 49.5% (1,185,584). That’s a gap of just over 26,000 votes. Of the estimated 89,000 or so votes outstanding, Lake would need 57,500 of them. That’s more than 64%. At the end of the day Thursday, she needed 53%, at the end of the day Friday she needed 54%, and at the end of the day Saturday she needed 55.5%. In other words, although Lake had an unexpectedly good day on Sunday, she actually took a step back, as she’s simply running out of votes with which she might make up the gap. We imagine this one will be called sometime today.

In the comments on Akiva’s tweet, people are like, “It’s almost like most Democrats vote by mail.” Yes, that’s true, but also, I don’t trust his “17% turnout” figure. Of course, I wouldn’t trust SMOTI if he said the sky was blue, but YMMV.

It’s also possible that the video was shot after mine clearers and engineers went through and pushed them off to the side; there’s a few areas where you see them bunched up along the side of the road.

You’re right though that they are too small to be a true deterrent to a determined opponent. They were laid down in haste, and likely more for show than for anything else.

re: #174 Dangerman

as to state legislatures:

…changes occurred in a number of states, none of them favorable to the Republicans. As a general rule, the president’s party usually loses a few state legislative chambers. That didn’t happen last week. The Democrats didn’t lose any of the 99 state legislative chambers (Nebraska has a unicameral legislature). If everything goes as it now appears to be going, this will be the first time since 1934 when the president’s party held onto all of its legislature chambers That in itself is unusual.

Might also be sufficient for deterring civilian cars and trucks; e.g. really designed for civil/border control stuff and not dealing with tracked military vehicles. And the clustering in the video looks like purposeful placement to form a chicane and make a passing vehicle slow heavily and maneuver to pass down the road.

Having available and then deploying a bunch of cheaper “civil level” obstacles and bunkers would seem to fit the initial Russian expectations for the “special operation”. A quick occupation followed by a heavy investiture by paramilitary civil guard to enforce said occupation against some limited partisan activity.

lawhawk  Nov 14, 2022 • 5:33:42am

re: #179 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

Also, logistically, it’s easier to get and deliver lighter and smaller obstacles, than the heavier and larger ones necessary to thwart an armored advance. As we have repeatedly seen, Russian logistics is awful (and that’s being charitable) even before we get into Ukrainian artillery fire against staging areas and rally points. Russia simply can’t deliver enough of anything to the front, and it’s been showing for quite some time.

Most of the obviously-not-a-biased-house poll were close.

further

A question of great interest to us is: “How did the pollsters do?” Let’s take a look. …

Can you spot the differences? We got Nevada wrong. A late InsiderAdvantage poll had Adam Laxalt (R) up by 6 points, but in the end he lost. In a couple of states the margin was slightly different from what we predicted, but no other states were called wrong. On the whole, the polls were pretty good. One of the differences we had with other aggregators is that we were not fooled but the large number of Republican consultants shoveling out fake polls at the last minute. We didn’t use any of them.

GOP has been yanking everyone’s chain about inflation. It didn’t stop the Democrats from gaining a seat in the Senate and possibly holding the House - a midterm outcome that most every pundit saw as nearly impossible.

In fact, Biden and Democrats have defied nearly all the predictions about what would happen. Guess the GOP messaging sucked and Democrats’ messaging was better. Democrats’ candidates were better and people rejected straight up conspiracy nuts and goddamned Nazis. GOP is still pandering to the know nothing set who think that inflation is only Biden’s fault, or that food prices are all Biden’s fault when there are clear outside factors influencing like avian flu causing massive culling of flocks and covid causing supply chain issues and egg production has fallen off, causing a repeated cycle of costs that get pushed out to consumers.

I find it far easier to believe that he has no idea what the fuck he’s doing; that he refuses to listen to anyone who DOES know what they’re doing, because of his ego; and that if, at some level, he does realize the deleterious effects his actions are having, it doesn’t matter to him, because he’s perfectly fine with burning the whole thing down, even if it costs him his $44B. I’m still not prepared to say he set out to intentionally burn Twitter down, but I absolutely agree with the sentiment that he just. Does. Not. Care. if his reckless actions end up destroying it. He’ll just claim it was already dead and he tried to give it life support, to support his fragile ego and his alternate reality.

Speaker Pelosi will go down as one of the most powerful speakers in history, and her ability to whip and count votes before they happen is unparalleled.

She knows that things aren’t yet decided, and yet McCarthy is already measuring drapes despite not having: 1) the GOP winning the nominal control of the House; or 2) being the preferred leader of the GOP caucus.

Freedumb caucus is going to push for someone else.
With all the infighting and chaos on the GOP side, they may not have a consensus pick. Whoever it is may end up spending more time trying to hold caucus together than doing any actual work. And fixating on “investigations” is going to mean that they aren’t going to be legislating - their actual fucking jobs.

They’ll be more interested in score settling than doing their job. They’ll be pushing for impeaching Biden on unspecified charges, despite zero actual impeachable conduct.

Not liking successes by Biden isn’t a reason to impeach. There’s nothing he did that even rises to impeachable conduct. Policy differences aren’t impeachable.

They want to equate what Biden did to somehow distract/diminish the crimes actually committed by Trump.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with the site, but DeviantArt is currently facing a massive backlash from its users after creating an AI art tool based upon images uploaded to its platform and automatically opting all users IN to giving permission for their art to be used to train the AI.

While it is possible to opt out, DA has apparently made it confusing difficult to do so.

They’re getting absolutely shredded on this tweet announcing their new project and there are serious questions about the legality of the situation.

When the AI artwork controversy first started up, I wondered how long it was going to be before some art platform did this. (I admit, I did not see DeviantArt being the first, but I didn’t think about it too closely.) The best part is, the dubious legality of this is reinforced by how murky American copyright laws are, thanks to decades of conflicting court rulings, leading to an absolute Wild West state of, “the biggest legal guns make the rules.”

I would have also, before the whole Musk shenanigannery started. To be perfectly blunt, I have been sticking to my guns with far inferior Internet compared to my area for years, because I steadfastly refuse to overpay for the cable/fiber Internet from Mediacom thanks to the bandwidth caps they have in place. I will never give them business, if that’s how they’re going to run it - I can deal with the lower speeds I have on hand until someone provides a more viable alternative. At the current moment, that’s the same decision I would make with Starlink.

So what are the “explanations” here?

1) That Trump really does believe that top-secret government documents are automatically “declassified” just because he took them? (explanation: Trump is an idiot)
or
2) Trump knows that this argument is specious bullshit, but is going to present it to a court anyway, just to buy time and run out the clock (?) (explanation: Trump is a crook)

Since we know Donald Trump is both an idiot and a crook, maybe both 1) and 2)??

I am very hesitant to even use the term “racist” these days. I generally reserve it for people who actively want to deny others their property, personal safety or legal rights because of their race.

When they talk about “anti-white racism” they mean that you are threatening to deny them their perceived privileges.

From what I understand, it’s genuine. AFAIK, except for KKKrazy Kari Lake, the losers have all conceded their elections; so for all the fiery rhetoric about “stolen elections” and “election fraud”, in the event, all these GOP hypocrites have admitted that they lost fair and square. In their parlance “vote by mail” = Perpetrate election fraud

2,000 acres and 50 mules!!!

We know that Republicans commit voter fraud that way on a routine basis. There was the infamous North Carolina race back in 2016; there were voter fraud cases in 2020 in red areas where people voted in the name of their deceased spouse or parent. And then there is the case in my own family over 15 years ago, where a first cousin voted for his mother who had severe dementia; she was a Democrat but he made sure that the Republicans got her vote.

Get your flu shots!

Current dominant strains circulating are those that were included in this year’s flu shot. Flu is getting active earlier and more severely than in recent years (a covid effect of people resuming normal activities and ignoring things like social distancing or washing hands).

The spread of flu this early may also ripple through the economy as well as causing lower worker productivity and supply chain disruptions. It’ll also add to the ongoing strain to hospitals and health care delivery as some areas are already struggling with RSV and other respiratory ailments circulating, especially among kids and elderly.

I saw that yesterday, and I genuinely struggle to understand what Elon is thinking. Does he believe that Twitter just kept all these people on for the hell of it?

If you are a dudebro who truly believes that all speech should be permitted, then there is no need for content moderation. Of course, Elon also believes that no speech critical of him should be permitted but that is a more narrow objective that doesn’t require as much moderation.

I had a former boss call me back once. As it turned out, he himself was going somewhere new, and he wanted me to be a part of his new team. I told him, in essence, “I appreciate the flattery, but respectfully, hahahahaha, no.” I left for a reason, and you are naïve to assume you weren’t part of it.

Senior-level dev there. Just the sort of guy Twitter should want to hang onto. Absolutely the kind of guy Musk will be regretting firing in about 3 days, and will try to call back.

Charles should hire him.

Brocken spectre

A Brocken spectre (German: Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow, mountain spectre, or spectre of the Brocken is the magnified (and apparently enormous) shadow of an observer cast in mid air upon any type of cloud opposite to a strong light source. Additionally if the cloud consists of water droplets backscattered a bright area called Heiligenschein and halo-like rings of rainbow coloured light called a glory can be seen around the head or apperature silhouette of the spectre. Typically the spectre appears in sunlight opposite to the Sun’s direction at the antisolar point.

The phenomenon can appear on any misty mountainside, cloud bank, or from an aeroplane, but the frequent fogs and low-altitude accessibility of the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains in Germany, have created a local legend from which the phenomenon draws its name. The Brocken spectre was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780, and has since been recorded often in literature about the region.

The funny part is, microservices are a pretty standard part of modern infrastructure for any Web application that’s been built or rebuilt in the last about 6-8 years. Someone who is single-handedly making detailed design decisions about how to build a widely distributed social media site should absolutely know what microservices are and how they interact before he goes just pulling the plug on random stuff for giggles.

From what I recall, there were several House seats in ketchup-red districts where the Dems didn’t bother to field a candidate. Those votes would increase the total GOP percentage without affecting the final who-controls-the-House outcome.

The Simpsons’s Mr. Burns and Elon Musk share an eerie number of similarities. Each is the richest person in his respective universe—Springfield for the former, planet Earth for the latter. They boast about their green energy initiatives of electric cars and nuclear power plants, but use their power to advance right-wing politics and fuel their petty personal grievances. Test yourself below to see how well you can separate our cartoonish reality from the world of The Simpsons.

I can confirm that there were two House seats in AZ where there was no Dem candidate fielded, vs Lesko and Biggs I believe. With AZ gradually turning purple, I don’t expect that to be the case for long, but in fairness, those are blood red districts and its a lot to ask to even put yourself as a token candidate for slaughter.

But didn’t I read somewhere that her brothers appeared at Mark Kelly rallies?

I understand that McCain had built a fairly powerful political machine in Arizona.

I wonder if Trump’s attacks on McCain, driving his supporters out of the GOP, and trying to destroy that organization may be a factor in why Arizona is trending much more blue.

And I am absolutely fine with those results.

I see the same thing that you do, that the obstacles were pushed off to the side of the road.

But it looks to me that the vehicle moves to the side of the road and it’s left track goes right over the obstacles at 8 and 11 seconds.

If I were a dictator or the leader of a transnational crime syndicate I would severely punish any minister or major operative who failed to take advantage of such an opportunity.
Who knows? Maybe there are oligarch ex-flunkies rotting in the gulag because they chose to stay elsewhere.
