I am impressed with the January 6 Committee’s report. It reads like a prosecution memo. I see the fingerprints of committee counsel Tim Heaphy, a former U.S. Attorney, all over this. Some of the proposed charges were expected. Two others are intriguing. https://t.co/hrxk0JC8dI
— Barb McQuade (@BarbMcQuade) December 19, 2022
Two other charges are surprises to me. The first is conspiracy to submit false documents based on the false slate of electors that were submitted to the Archives and Congress. This strikes me as a tidy charge, so long as DOJ can directly tie Trump to this part of the plot.
— Barb McQuade (@BarbMcQuade) December 19, 2022
I have long thought Trump’s speech on the Ellipse failed this test because of the vagueness of his language and the inclusion of the word “peacefully.”
— Barb McQuade (@BarbMcQuade) December 19, 2022
Not surprisingly, report does not refer seditious conspiracy. Committee gains credibility by not over-reaching. While some links tie militia groups to Trump campaign, committee did not establish direct link to attack plans. DOJ may be able to establish link, but not apparent yet.

Some election news that I’m not seeing much publicity about, but that the various Democratic fundraisers are reminding me about — there’s a race to fill VA-4, whose Democratic officeholder, Donald McEachin, died in November after re-election.
Here’s what to know about the races to fill Rep. McEachin’s seat in Congress
And that Virginia has a firehouse primary, where the parties themselves conduct the primaries, on _different_ days.
What is a firehouse primary?
The Republicans already had their primary on the 17th, at _one_ location in the district.
The Democrats are having theirs tomorrow, at 8 separate locations.

You don’t usually see a death that young without mention of a battle with cancer or a terrible accident, but it happens.
re: #222 JC1
Okay, a few things:
I worked at top R&D facilities for over 35 years, doing everything from architecture, systems engineering, coding, prototyping, test, etc. I’ve got extensive software development experience. In fact, there is an excellent chance you’ve used some of my work in the past or seen it advertised on TV.
I’ve also worked on Agile teams and an quite aware of what it entails.
My previous comment was a reaction to executives who hear the latest buzzwords and demand they get implemented. And so:
Software isn’t like real estate. Different software projects will work best with different project management techniques. If you know all the requirements ahead of time, and if the ecosystem is unlikely to change, and if you have competent staff, then something like the waterfall method might work great.
Here you make the appropriate point: the method (waterfall, iterative development) must be appropriate to the task. In much of my work, you had a huge amount of code on a legacy system that must run in real-time and if it fails can result in a lawsuit (think 911 calls as the simplest example). The base is also constantly changing as new features and architectures are implemented. Using Agile to modify such a base is not appropriate, yet was pushed by executives as the latest/greatest thing.
Starting a project from scratch with more limited requirements is a good use of iterative development. Using it to modify a system with over a million lines of code isn’t a good use.
Note that I’ve pushed iterative development when appropriate to the task.
So my comments were not directed at Agile per se, but rather at idiot executives who insist it be used when not appropriate. In my house analogy, I was saying that the executive would see early progress and see that as an affirmation of their decision to use the process. But due to the extreme complexity of the system being modified, tons of rework was required to get the appropriate reliability and integration to the existing system. So when Agile was rolled out yet the managers consistently violated some of the underlying premises, it was a mess.
Besides, I’ve been retired for a year and and must confess I enjoy not having to deal with idiot managers and executives. And a little shit posting about software development is now fun.

You don’t usually see a death that young without mention of a battle with cancer or a terrible accident, but it happens.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Browning’s Union home Monday afternoon for a report of a man who was found not breathing on a couch. First responders attempted to resuscitate the man, later identified as Browning, but all efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.
No foul play is suspected in Browning’s death. The sheriff’s office said the coroner will release Browning’s remains to a funeral home of his family’s choosing.

… there is just one option on the table: adjourn the House. Without House rules in place, the chamber cannot recess subject to the call of the chair. They’d need to adjourn, with a certain day and time for reconvening specified.
…No pause button: During this time, if McCarthy fails on the first ballot, any members-elect can seek recognition and make motions, propose resolutions, move to table items and call for roll call votes or to adjourn. However, efforts to delay the speaker election in favor of other business have been quashed in the past.

and that’s before all the other investigations and indictments
The first three words of this headline are lovely. Not hearing from a narcissist who demanded so much attention is fantastic. I don’t know that it was the poll. It’s just as likely that his Saudi investors started talking about bonesaws and Elon realized this isn’t a game.

Illinois requires an EKG (ECG) prior to any surgeries.
I was scheduled for sinus surgery and so had the procedure.
Was then informed that I wasn’t cleared for surgery and had been scheduled for an appointment with one of the top cardiologists in the area, who saw me immediately.
Ended up with a pacemaker (which was recently replaced).
So yes, it’s very possible to have serious heart issues and not know.
re: #102 Eclectic Cyborg
That’s the thing about heart disease. A lot of people who have it don’t know it because there are often no symptoms until things start to get pretty serious.
exactly!
and here in Kentucky (and most other places, tbh), men tend to ignore their health concerns.
Heck, MrBWS had his heart attack, retired EMT that I am … I called it that same day (a Thursday), local clinic couldn’t confirm that the same day, he kept insisting it was a pulled muscle in his chest (never mind the shooting pain down his arm and in his back).
Come Monday, I insisted he stop at the local clinic before he headed back to work…next thing we know he is in an ambulance to the local hospital, Tuesday morning he is on a chopper to Lexington for emergency bypass surgery.
Guys, shit like this is serious. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Stop worrying about looking “weak” because something might be wrong.
I know too many people (mostly men) who died from heart disease/hypertension because they thought it was “no big deal”.

My husband was 54 when he died after years of heart problems triggered by untreated diabetes. The first signs that things were not great was at age 40. He was always a Big, Strong Guy until that shit escalated. 11 stents in his heart. Many hospitals and ERs and surgeries over the years. I tell people that if you love someone a lot, make sure they get bloodwork done. For cholesterol, A1C, anemia and anything else every year. Diabetes can be an asshole and it will fuck up all your body systems if not treated.

also, I really need to point out that for women, symptoms of heart attacks and hypertension are completely different from those men have and medical professionals will likely blow off what women report.

IMHO, Eastman is the guy most likely to be the fall guy, as everybody below him will accuse him of being the legal mastermind, and everybody above him will claim ignorance.
Eastman is not a fall guy; he is a Republican hatchet man. He was the one who argued that Harris was not a natural born citizen and was not eligible to run for vice president. He is a vile racist and authoritarian who deserves no leeway.
Nobody tell Elmo that if he restricts voting to Blue meanies, the total count will drop from millions to thousands. That will be a hoot.
But he’s probably used to seeing numbers drop rapidly these days.— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) December 20, 2022
I don’t think he is, to be honest. Two years after he sent his goons to sack the Capitol and he’s still a free man, still inciting more violence, still repeating The Big Lie over and over and over… https://t.co/HeU17pAp6h

I really wish I could disagree. And yeah, maybe Jack Smith is gonna change this, but I’ll believe it when I see it because taking more than two years to deal with an outright, overt, in-your-face plot to take over the government has robbed me of the will to believe.
May I poll you for 8 dollars? No no no, you misunderstand me. 8 dollars from you, to me.

Yegaads! Having a hard time keeping up with all the goddamned nonsense going on with Elmo and all the rest. I listened to some of the Hearing today at work. Boxed up 30 binders today, we’re mountin’ skis tomorrow. Why isn’t Trump in custody?

re: #172 Hecuba’s daughter
well, if you don’t like the term “fall guy”, perhaps “patsy” is a better fit. I believe target was alluding to not so much his role in the grand scheme of things but more along the line of the likely dump truck of shit that will be employed by everyone else making Eastman the “responsible party” for all of this litigation. These people in the circle are who the media is focusing on (at the moment) based on what the J6 has offered up and imho improperly so….
Planning to overthrow the country takes money and logistics and while we know some of what took place and who some of the likely actors are (i.e. those Members of Congress who refused Congressional Subpeonas and those Senators who went along with the charade of alternate electors and refusing to certify votes from states) there are still a whole lotta crap to find out…
1) who put the word out to coordinate J6 as the date?
2) who got the cannon fodder into place
3) who co-opted certain elements of the government to make it happen?
a) who reduced the Capitol Police staffing b) why did the FBI admin look the other way with the tangible threats reported c) why did the Pentagon not respond when asked d) wtf was going on with the Secret Service e) who supplied the attackers with intel on where to attacks and find lawmakers
4) who paid for the bus fare and hotel rooms for the rioters?
I’m low key amazed I’m still able to tweet with a sockpuppet that has a handle “Elon Musk Blows Goats.”

You don’t attempt a coup alone.
This was not done ‘for’ him by others.
This was done ‘by’ him through others.
This, like everything else, did not happen without trump’s active participation and ok.
Proving it beyond a shadow may be problematic maybe not
