Right-Wingers Are Making Bank Off Musk’s Twitter Affiliate Money

The ad-revenue sharing was first announced back in February and was supposedly on an invite-only basis for eligible creators. So who were these exclusive, eligible accounts? Twitter paid out more than $20,000 to Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist who has been indicted on charges of rape and human trafficking alongside his brother in Romania.

Far-right Twitter influencers first on Elon Musk’s monetization scheme

Not all creators who want to monetize will be able to. Creators who apply to the program will have to pass “human review” and there is currently no open application for those interested in joining.

Some nonpolitical contributors expressed frustration with the lack of transparency from the company over the rollout of the program.

“My tweets have generated 100s of millions of impressions for Twitter every year,” Matt Navarra, a social media strategist who runs the tech-focused newsletter and community Geekout, posted on Thursday. “And I’ve been on the platform for 15+ years. It’s pretty lame there is no payout coming my way. Twitter has never generated any income directly for all the content I have put in to it.”

But don’t worry, the Krassensteins are making money. Let’s definitely give them and their empty rah-rah posturing credibility. Engagement and saying mean shit at professional provocateurs is definitely productive activity.

Whatever you do, just keeping posting.

Funny thing happened on the way to the Dead & Co show…my mother stopped by and gave me Covid. Just let the group know I wouldn’t be there and ‘miracled’ the last two tickets to another couple in our circle.

Suffice it to say I’m bummed. But the good news is I spent all that money last year so it’s not like it’s costing me anything to miss the show. If I put it on a credit card and still had 30 payments left that would really suck. Cash is king.

re: #6 HRH Stanley Sea

Got it!! I’ll send the un-coked bills via snail mail…

Reminds me of the old joke…

A very wealthy man was on his death bed.

He called for his attorney, his doctor and his pastor.

When they arrived at his bed, they were each handed a briefcase.

He told them:
“They say that you can’t take it with you. I intend to prove them wrong.
In each briefcase is one million dollars in US Currency. When I die, I want you each to place the briefcase in my grave. Since there are three of you, I know that you will not be able to embezzle the money.”

The old guy eventually dies.

At his funeral, the attorney, doctor, and pastor each walked up and dropped their briefcases in the grave. They waited until the grave was filled and then left.

As they were walking away, the Pastor said “I have a confession to make. The Orphanage needed renovations, so I used $100,000 from the briefcase to help with the building fund.”

The doctor then said “I also have a confession to make. The hospital needs a new charity wing. So I took $500,000 to help build it.”

The attorney stopped and looked at the other two. And said: “I am stunned and shocked at you two! My check for the full $1,000,000 is in that briefcase!”

In other words, someone will have to ask Elon for a yes or no.

He’s giving money to people he likes (or wants to be liked by) via a business channel.

What I’m interested in is the larger sociological structure of social media and how it makes this possible. Advertising cares about engagement, eyes on screens, and we keep seeing incredibly shitty people making hate so profitable that they become actual brokers of culture and power.

Twitter can be an incredible news sources, but that’s not it’s core function, no matter what Jack said or Elon says: it’s function is to compel attention and then “sell” that attention to people buying ad space. The primary cultural means that this has been achieved is to present the idea—emergent from the same premise within Facebook and MySpace—that the mere act of commenting (reacting to social media) is an important form of self-expression and a form of praxis.

It’s a continuation of the grift where charities create “awareness”: you can pull more money from people if you make them feel moral while doing something effortless (like shit talking a bot) and useless than you can if you lay out how complicated the world is. And even as I can say “social media can be super fun and you can make friends and community there” it always has to be repeated that this is not the intended function of the these systems.

The allegations surfaced during the Flatwater Free Press’ reporting on Seward County’s use of civil asset forfeiture, which allows law enforcement to seize money without convicting drivers of a crime. Seward County law enforcement has brought in $7.5 million from I-80 motorists in the past five years, much of it through civil asset forfeiture.

The county, population 17,692, has accounted for a third of all civil forfeiture cases in state court in the past decade in Nebraska, population 1.97 million.

Sovereign citizens refer to cops as “road pirates.” And it’s the one thing where they’ve stumbled on a tiny kernel of truth.

Looks like the honeymoon for Threads may be ending early:

Shortly after Meta’s new Twitter clone Threads hits 100 million users, analysts say that the app’s user engagement has precipitously dropped off.

NBC News reports that data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb indicates that the newly released social media platform from Meta has seen a drop off in attention from users. Sensor Tower Data suggests that on Tuesday and Wednesday, daily active users dropped 20% from Saturday while time spent on the platform fell 50% from 20 minutes to 10 minutes. Similarweb’s data reportedly paints a picture equally as grim as daily active users dropped 25% from a peak on July 7 to Monday, while time spent on the app dropped over 50% from 20 minutes to 8 minutes.

A Meta spokesperson told Gizmodo in an email: “While it’s early days, we’re excited about the initial success of Threads, which has surpassed our expectations. We launched the app just over a week ago, and our focus now is on ensuring stable performance, delivering new features and continuing to improve the experience in the coming months.”

The platform has been facing a bit of an uphill battle of its own design, as Threads is not yet available in the EU due to regulatory concerns. While some users fell for fake versions of the app, others tried to access it via VPN. Meta is now blocking EU users from accessing Threads with a VPN.

Well, I think like most outlets the Guardian goes with the overstatements.

And this:

Some may have died out, “but it’s very likely that multiple waves of people came to Americas,” she said.

That had already been concluded some time ago. I think the Guardian should not present this as something novel.

As for the actual paper: I wait to see how it survives being picked apart by their colleagues.

There are reasons to believe that humans may have made it to the Americas circa 25kya, but if so then they died out.

DNA studies so far indicate that the Americans who were here when Columbus landed came from more recent migrations.

It’s basically a boiled concentrate of grapfruit and lemon peels that you make a bitter tea out of (add honey to make it swallowable).

My neighbor (one of the people still going to the show) just dropped by with a bottle of Vitamin D and some Tollovid (over the counter anti-viral that apparently works well with Covid). Going to try that for a day and pick up my Paxlovid Rx just in case. Symptoms are mild but having the Paxlovid on hand will be helpful if I get this shit again.

I’m skeptical about plant based cures but Aspirin helps a headache and that’s just fuckin’ tree bark.

I skimmed the actual paper in the Proc. Royal Acad. B.

Looks interesting. I suspect that site will become a hotbed for archeologists.

At the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), about 25kya, the sea levels would have been the lowest. That would make land crossing from Asia to NA easier. It was colder then, of course, so the humans needed to be quite clever as well as hardy.

Situated in the parched heart of Death Valley, Furnace Creek is the particular location that has meteorologists and climate scientists on edge. The NWS has forecasted temperatures here that could reach a staggering 129 degrees, and possibly peak at 131 degrees Fahrenheit this Sunday. If this becomes reality, it will set a new record for the hottest temperature ever officially recorded on Earth.

However, there is an ongoing debate regarding this potential record-breaking heat. The current official record held by Guinness World Records stands at 134 degrees Fahrenheit, a scorching benchmark set in that very same spot of Furnace Creek back in 1913. Some argue that this past record still holds the title for the hottest day ever recorded.

Elmo has too many flying monkeys.

“It’s often difficult to recognize a flying monkey, as they may seem like normal people who are simply taking sides in a disagreement or conflict”

Signs Someone Is a Flying Monkey
However, Dr. Kerwin outlines a few key tell-tale signs to look out for:

They side with the narcissist no matter the situation or evidence presented to them
They spread gossip or rumors about you
They gaslight or manipulate you
They dismiss or trivialize your feelings
They pass on information about you to help the narcissist harass you
Flying monkeys could be friends or associates of the narcissist, friends or associates of you, or people you think of as authority figures.

GOP about to sabotage the defense bill by larding it up with right wing priorities - like undermining health care, ending diversity training, and more.

These fuckers are regressives, not conservatives, and it’s time we label them accordingly.

There’s nothing conservative about what they’re doing. They’re fascist extremists who want to impose their religious views on everyone else, and roll back social advances from the past century to benefit billionaires getting more tax cuts and to engage and enrage the know nothing GOP base into thinking that rolling back rights for women and minorities and gutting safety net programs like SS, Medicare, and Medicaid somehow helps them.

Back to the only thing conservatism actually is: The acquisition and maintenance of power in a hierarchy of “betters” and “lessers.”

That is how conservative thinkers described it for centuries. What they are conserving is power.

Companies that aren’t Elon Musk are perfectly happy with botted engagement with ads; a big chunk of social media and all of Google (in particular Youtube) have tons of inauthentic behavior that they just…don’t admit means that most “view” numbers they show to ad buyers just don’t mean much. Internet’s built on that lie.

But in Musk’s case, it makes even less sense that Twitter’s only value proposition is eyes watching critical influencers, and the site’s absolutely crawling with inauthentic behavior at all times and that just seems to be the norm.

They honestly think a court is going going get them off the hook in sentencing because they fervently believe they were doing their patriotic duty. The thing is, if someone was genuinely doing their patriotic duty, they would not try to prevail on the court to change their fate. They would have gone into it knowing what the penalty could be, and accepting the consequences of their actions.

Highway robbery under the color of law in Nebraska.

flatwaterfreepress.org

This has been a thing. The Flatwater Free Press wrote about it previously.

We don’t use Interstate 80 if we have to go through Seward County. We use NE-92. It’s two-lane and a bit slower, but much less traffic and fewer crooks sheriff’s deputies.

Every time I see a “new” serial killer turn up I’ve started thinking about how they’re not one type of criminal, but a kind of condensation of systemic effects that we don’t think about in circumstances other than a bunch of dead bodies that form a trend.

Like, most of them get to be multiple murderers not because they have some kind of super-skill, but because they’ve selected targets that get less care and attention.

Nobody should be shocked anymore, when the SK turns out to be someone that reads as “normal” because “normal” has always been a fiction created by social accord, and often you find out that the ones that everyone says were “normal” actually were doing all kinds of weird red flag shit that was simply overlooked because it could be filed as “dude stuff” or “just joking” or “not my business.”

Depends how they woke up on any given day, perhaps. An old acquaintance, now deceased, was mostly male and presented as male most of the time but, in their words “some days were different days, days to be different”. On such days they would dress and act female, at least by the standards of the time. Her friends and acquaintances would cope, anyone revolted or turned off by this behaviour was politely instructed to fuck off and don’t bother us.

Aftermath: Strongest storm in the 7 years I’ve been in this house, we have our trees cleaned out every three years or so, so just minor branches down here, but our neighbors have massive branches down and a lot of them. The rain was torrential and pouring down at a 20 degree angle so thick we could not see the house across the street.

Turek is a professional liar.

The way nearly all religious apologetics is done is axiomatically dishonest, and that thoroughly applies to what this Turek clown is doing.

For example, atheists aren’t in the business of “judging God” because why judge that which does not exist?

The only kind of “witnessing for Christ” that is worth anything is people using their religion to be better people, which is much more rare than it should be.

Sleeping in a room at 90 degrees beings back memories of Western PA HUMID and HOT summers where Dad locked the fan to blow OUT instead of IN…

My grandparents did the same with fans. The idea was to suck air in (through their bedroom window).

In the winter it was worse: I had an upstairs bedroom. The furnace was a wall furnace downstairs. I was required to keep the floor vent in my room closed to preserve heat downstairs, meaning I had no heat in the winter (as evidenced by snow collecting on the inside of the bedroom windowsills in storms).

no, you were fine! I was just thinking of my departed father—the retired priest—mentioning fondly how much he enjoyed having one of his grandchildren sleep with him. Of course, she was three at the time, and she’d go crawl into bed with him when he got to do grandfather duty—this being after my mom died. He said he remembered so fondly feeling a tiny hand on his back and knowing she was letting him know while he was asleep that she was there. A lovely story, but sometimes I’d have to say, “Context!” out of the corner of my mouth, depending on who was hearing the anecdote :-)

From Short History at Medium, January 13, 2023 on the history of erotic Romance novels:

Today, reading Fanny Hill seems rather tame to the modern reader used to the likes of Fifty Shades of Grey.

However, at the time of its publishing in 1748, the novel Fanny Hill, was the most erotic and explicit pornographic novel in Great Britain. The original title of the novel Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure.

John Cleland (1709-1789), the author of the novel, was arrested for writing it. The police said his naught book was corrupting the King’s subjects.

Fanny Hill was forbidden for centuries. Nonetheless, it became a best seller.

Although forbidden, Fanny Hill was a sought-after novel. For two centuries, it was illegally reprinted. Explicit illustrations were added for those who lacked imagination.

“…lewd, wicked, scandalous, infamous and obscene print…”

— government’s opinion of the book

Surprisingly, even in 1963, the British police confiscated over 20,000 copies of Fanny Hill and issued nationwide warnings about the corrupt nature of the book.

Captain Cassidy at Only Sky, July 13, 2023

Christianese does a lot of heavy lifting for evangelicals. Everyday life becomes a godly melodrama. You aren’t the guy who carries the pastor’s stuff—you’re an armorbearer. You aren’t eating lunch, you’re breaking bread. Even a simple word-shuffle like Christ Jesus can give an insidery zhuzh to whatever you’re on about. The result can be a harmless spiritual RPG or a wolf in sheep’s clothing, bless your heart.

Now we see (some) evangelicals deploying the phrase creation care. It’s their substitute for environmental activism, a way of owning the concept and (most importantly) giving themselves permission to gut any parts of the actual meaning that they find inconvenient. Those who embrace it might not accept that humans have had anything to do with the climate’s huge changes in the modern day, but they’re still aware that not GAFF about the planet is a bad look—and they want to at least make an effort at look maintenance.

The other name for creation care, “environmental stewardship,” reveals the ideas at work here. Though this phrase isn’t technically an evangelical creation, the word stewardship conveys a great deal about evangelicals’ mindset and priorities—and what this creation care movement actually involves.

Worse, at a time when human impact on Earth’s climate grows more and more certain, this entire movement might just be a little too little, a little too late.

Meet ‘creation care,’ the evangelical substitute for environmental activism

“Evangelicals can’t care about anything unless they can feel like they literally own it.”

On that article above, climate scientists and environmentalists have called for abandoning the term “environmental stewardship” to describe conservation efforts and attempts to constrain global climate change. That phrase has been used for about a century.

The reason is Christians (and not just Evangelicals) have hijacked the term “stewardship” into the definition of the Bible, which means “ownership” (specifically in the context of being good stewards [rulers] until Jesus’s return, when he destroys everything in Armageddon).

I’ve never been to Culver’s. There is one in Cheyenne though, so maybe next time I’m there I’ll give them a try. Five Guys opened a restaurant there a few years ago and they’re pretty good.

Here there are only a few chain restaurants, and they’re a long ways away from me.

Culver’s is worth the try, especially their frozen custard. The place is a death trap for my diet so I have to be very careful about it though LOL! I love their mushroom swiss burger with fries and the flavor of the day as dessert :) Serious calorie bomb though.

If you like deep fried cheese curds, they have great ones too.

Funny, that’s one of the things I don’t like from them. Maybe it’s just that I’m spoiled on the incredibly greasy, incredibly salty fried cheese curds they serve at stands at fairs and festivals here in Minnesota, though.

Ten minutes to replace the garbage disposal.

They usually aren’t too hard to replace. It’s the initial install that can be a major PITA.

One of the things lost in the so-called AI generation of text and images is the explosion of AI-generated child sexual abuse material.

AI-generated child sex images spawn new nightmare for the web (Washington Post, June 19, 2023)

“Investigators say the disturbing images could undermine efforts to find real-world victims”

The revolution in artificial intelligence has sparked an explosion of disturbingly lifelike images showing child sexual exploitation, fueling concerns among child-safety investigators that they will undermine efforts to find victims and combat real-world abuse.

Generative-AI tools have set off what one analyst called a “predatory arms race” on pedophile forums because they can create within seconds realistic images of children performing sex acts, commonly known as child pornography.

Thousands of AI-generated child-sex images have been found on forums across the dark web, a layer of the internet visible only with special browsers, with some participants sharing detailed guides for how other pedophiles can make their own creations.

“Children’s images, including the content of known victims, are being repurposed for this really evil output,” said Rebecca Portnoff, the director of data science at Thorn, a nonprofit child-safety group that has seen month-over-month growth of the images’ prevalence since last fall.

We saw her in the fall of 2011 at a club in Bloomington, IN. Her guitar players were Bo Ramsey and Doug Pettibone. Amazing show.

The guilty party in this instance is Stable Diffusion. Because the project released all its image-manipulation tools in the wild (information’s gotta be free, ya know), the software allows abuse material producers to produce more, then try to culture-jam it onto mainstream sites.

In Dark Web fora, according to the article, there are those who create such images who ask how to imitate a friendly person to children on-line, not to gain CSAM material, but normal photographs of children. They can then use those photographs to manipulate those into CSAM material.

Others use Stable Diffusion to create faked photographs of adults for extortion.

The FBI has released a statement on the problem.

Malicious Actors Manipulating Photos and Videos to Create Explicit Content and Sextortion Schemes (FBI, June 5, 2023)

The lede:

The FBI is warning the public of malicious actors creating synthetic content (commonly referred to as “deepfakes”) by manipulating benign photographs or videos to target victims. Technology advancements are continuously improving the quality, customizability, and accessibility of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled content creation. The FBI continues to receive reports from victims, including minor children and non-consenting adults, whose photos or videos were altered into explicit content. The photos or videos are then publicly circulated on social media or pornographic websites, for the purpose of harassing victims or sextortion schemes.

Mass law/courts are pretty good with this type of stuff. IIRC you may get 3x damages. May want to ping a mass contract dispute attorney and see what they say.

Edit: statute of limitations on contract disputes in Mass is 6 years, so you’re still good.

Thanks! We’ll have to deal with it in earnest next month, not much we can do right now, the owner is in Australia.

She is 100% planning on Trump winning in 2024 and promptly being Pardoned within days as soon as he takes the White House.

She isn’t wrong in her thinking. This is why if Trump wins this will quickly become a fundamentally different country with in a few short weeks as a monster in the White House is unleashed with full backing of a totally corrupt rubber stamp SCOTUS.
