so they’ve released the transcript of Tump’s deposition for the NY case. Among other tidbits… he blames it all on Eric.

We all knew he was going to throw the dim one under the bus, didn’t we?

Excuse me while I get blown away by the AI retouching features in the latest Photoshop. The way it deletes subjects and fills in backgrounds (that are NOT in the original photo!) is nothing short of astounding.

Eric volunteered so he could take over the family business later. That’s how the Kingpin did it in one of the versions of Spider-Man.

Well fuck, you go out w/ some friends and get some pizza, and you come home to a mass shooting at the Arboretum (a group of very high-end retail spaces on the NW side of town).

Two dead, one critical, several others injured.

But freedom, blood, tree, etc. It just gets so old, so fast, you can’t keep track of the carnage.

I’ve already smoked a lot of weed at concerts in Illinois, but it’s fantastic that it’s officially OK at this one. If not for the uptick in covid with new vaccines near but not yet here, I’d go to see Cypress Hill.

MUNDELEIN, Ill. — Organizers have announced Illinois’ first concert that permits cannabis consumption - a two-day event in September that merges music and cannabis culture - set to take place in north suburban Mundelein.

The inaugural ‘Miracle in Mundelein’ lineup includes performances by Cypress Hill, Action Bronson, Stephen Marley, and more, Sept. 9-10, across the street from RISE Cannabis Mundelein Recreational Dispensary, located at 1325 Armour Blvd.

Tomorrow is September 1st. That means it’s time to start thinking about Hardley Strictly Bluegrass - a free three day music festival with 5 or 6 stages in Golden Gate Park - about 200,000 people attend each day (it was much more fun when only about 50K showed up and you could move from stage to stage easily). Anyway, here’s the site if you happen to be in the Bay Area at the end of September. (Park downtown - weekend rates - and take the N-Judah muni to the park.)

A Mesquite man has been arrested on multiple charges of breaching the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

Philip Anderson, 28, faces felony counts of civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding, as well as misdemeanor counts of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Columbia.

Anderson was arrested in Mesquite on Tuesday and was expected in court for his first appearance Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

According to federal authorities, Anderson attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on the National Mall and followed the crowd as it made its way to the Capitol, where Congress was preparing to certify Joe Biden’s victory over then-President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Wearing a Trump-branded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a red hat, Anderson repeatedly riled up the crowd by speaking into a megaphone and urging them to occupy the Capitol, authorities said.

It’s been 4 1/2 hours since the mass shooting up at the Arboretum and info is slllloooowww to come out. They have confirmed that the shooter and one target victim are dead, and that that the critically injured transport was apparently a second target of the shooter.

But they are sitting on the info of who was the shooter, who was shot, and where it took place.

I think we may well know the names of these people when the info is released.

By the way, saw Barbie today.

OMG, it was fantastic. Props to Greta Gerwig. She grabbed it and made it hers.

Just fantastically entertaining and a feat of modern movie making. 4 1/2 stars, pushing hard to 5.

According to Google, Bluesky has 823,000 users and Threads has 128 million. Both need more features, but for now it appears that Threads can handle the volume. Supposedly Twitter-X now has 540 million users — though I am highly skeptical of any information provided by Musk.

My Dad had Ren & Stimpy parties when new episodes aired on MTV, which we had because M&D were willing to pay extra for the “good” cable TV stuff. We had a big screen TV, the only one for a few blocks around us. So the Ren & Stimpy events (6 PM on Friday nights) were raucous events with adults and children alike watching and laughing at one of the most absurd cartoons ever made. I loved it. Dad loved it even more.

A Climate Activist Slathered Pink Paint Over a Painting at the National Gallery of Canada, then Glued Himself to the Floor

Perp pried off the floor and arrested. Painting, Tom Thomson’s Northern River (1915), not damaged.
These goofballs claim they do this to “raise awareness” of the climate crisis. All they are really doing is helping Big Oil and its many accomplices portray climate “alarmists” as arrogant, irrational, self absorbed nihilists and weirdos, the only defense they have in the face of increasingly obvious facts.

Debris Shows Interstellar Meteor Was Faster, Tougher and Had 1000 Times More Uranium Than Rocks in Our Solar System

This is going to be fun. Its speed was too great to have originated in the Solar system, traveling at 60 km/second. And it maintained its integrity to such an extent before exploding to indicate a tensile strength greater than any other meterorite.

And uranium, beryllium and lanthanum levels 300-900 times greater than expected. A quick search pulled this up:

Nuclear fuel containing beryllium oxide as well as uranium oxide has been shown to be longer lasting, more efficient and safer than conventional nuclear fuels, an ongoing research project claims.

SO if Oumaumau was a spaceship, perhaps this is a fuel pod of some sort.Of course, reality is likely that neither is that interesting. Lots of peer review and further work.

New York police will use drones to monitor backyard parties this weekend, spurring privacy concerns (AP)

If you’re in your backyard, smile.

NEW YORK (AP) — Those attending outdoor parties or barbecues in New York City this weekend may notice an uninvited guest looming over their festivities: a police surveillance drone.

The New York City police department plans to pilot the unmanned aircrafts in response to complaints about large gatherings, including private events, over Labor Day weekend, officials announced Thursday.

“If a caller states there’s a large crowd, a large party in a backyard, we’re going to be utilizing our assets to go up and go check on the party,” Kaz Daughtry, the assistant NYPD Commissioner, said at a press conference.

The plan drew immediate backlash from privacy and civil liberties advocates, raising questions about whether such drone use violated existing laws for police surveillance

The move was announced during a security briefing focused on J’ouvert, an annual Caribbean festival marking the end of slavery that brings thousands of revelers and a heavy police presence to the streets of Brooklyn. Your city on libertarian dystopia.

Billionaires Are Reportedly Trying to Start a New City Near San Francisco (Futurism)

A billionaire-backed company has purchased tens of thousands of acres of land outside of San Francisco with the apparent intent of constructing an entirely new city, Insider and The New York Times are reporting.

The mysterious firm, dubbed Flannery Associates, has so far spent an eyewatering $800 million on mostly undeveloped ranch land in California’s Solano County, court documents obtained by Insider show. And it hasn’t done so alone, with the venture counting the likes of Laurene Powell Jobs, widow to Apple founder Steve Jobs, LinkedIn cofounder and “PayPal Mafia” alum Reid Hoffman, Sequoia Capital chair Michael Moritz, and — who else? — the ever-reliable Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz as investors, among others.

Land records and correspondence show that Flannery Associates has been scooping up land for the city project since about 2017, and though very little is known about the plans for the city, Moritz, in a 2017 email to a prospective investor obtained the the NYT, reportedly described the utopian vision as a walkable, clean energy-powered, job-generating metropolis home to tens of thousands of residents, where new forms of urban government could be experimented with. If that’s not a tech billionaire dream, we don’t know what is.

“Let me know if this tickles your fancy,” Moritz wrote in the email, according to the NYT.

Though the company has been raising money and gathering land for some time now, it’s flown largely under the radar. Congressman John Garamendi, one of two Democrats who represents the surrounding region, told the NYT that he’d been trying to get to the bottom of who was behind the shady firm for the better part of four years now, albeit to no avail. When I was born I already had two siblings - one from Dad’s previous marriage and one from Mom’s previous marriage, both sisters. Mom’s kid was around me the most and I can remember her and I watching “You Can’t Do That On Television” episodes on VHS. The green slime…

The slime is still around, even though that show and a lot of stuff from that era has faded from history. People still get slimed at the Nick awards shows.

Some other shows from that era:
Rugrats
Rocket Power (where I first heard “It’s your birthday” to mean that was awesome).
Aaahh!!, Real Monsters
Keenan & Kel
Cat-Dog

In the western Pacific, Super Typhoon Saola still has 120 knot windspeeds.

The prognostication is unchanged: The storm will rake along the Chinese coast, weaken, and directly strike the city of Hong Kong with 80 knot winds.

Afterward, it will turn and strike Hainan Island as a tropical storm, then turn back to the east as a tropical depression.

Image: wp0923.gif (JTWC)

Further east, Typhoon Haikui will drive straight toward Taiwan as it strengthens to 105 knots near landfall. It will then go across the island and the strait, striking China at around 65 knots before going inland and dissipating.

Image: wp1023.gif (JTWC)

Much further south and east, Tropical Storm Kirogi is expected to gradually weaken as it moves north and west, striking the very southern tip of Japan as a tropical depression in a few days.

Image: wp1123.gif

Moving east, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center has a tropical wave a long way south of Hawai’i. Disturbance One is given a 20% chance of development in a week as it moves north-west a long way from land.

nhc.noaa.gov

Moving further east, the National Hurricane Center predicts a tropical wave will develop off the south coast of Mexico, with a 30% chance of development as it moves west and north and away from North America.

The Atlantic deserves a whole page for what’s going on there.

Idalia has now been declared a post tropical depression. It is expected to intensify as it travels south and east, then north and east, becoming a tropical storm as it approaches Bermuda. Monday, the tropical storm is expected to switch to the north-west and take general aim at New England by the end of the period.

Post-Tropical Depression Idalia Tracking Chart (NHC)

Hurricane Franklin is still a thing. It is north-east of Bermuda, moving north-east. It is expected to become a post-tropical hurricane and gradually weaken to a post-tropical depression Tuesday as it turns toward Iceland.

Tropical Storm Jose is a minimal tropical storm. It is moving north and is expected to dissipate or be absorbed into Franklin in about a day or so.

Tropical Storm Franklin Tracking Chart (NHC)

Disturbance One is south-west of the Cabo Verde Islands. It has a 90% chance of becoming a short-lived tropical storm as it moves generally north-west.

Disturbance Two is meandering around south-west of Jose. It has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression within two days.

Disturbance Three is expected to move off the coast of Senegal this weekend. By the middle of next week the system has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the central Atlantic as it moves in the general direction of the Leeward Islands.

From what I have read about this, much of the land is not zoned for what they want to do. So they are going to have to spend a lot to get politicians on board. And just what will this city provide for any sort of economy to keep people paying mortgages, etc. WHere are they going to get the water from? And, since they abhor socialism, how will support needs like fire dpartments, be paid for?

It reminds oe of EPCOT which was going to contain a real city of the future. Even there in Florida, Disney was never able to get this really going.

I think the reality will be much more complex than they think. Unless this is a scam and the real winners get out early.

Like that Galt’s Gulch project in Chile. Sold millions of dollars in land. Zero water rights.

Buyers purchased the land without any sort of investigation into what they were buying. When they found out they were being scammed, they wanted to sue the “developers” for their money back. Chile said “nope,” you wanted a libertarian paradise, you got one. Good luck getting your money back

Why libertarian cities fail (Adam Lee at OnlySky, April 6, 2023)

In my Atlas Shrugged series (goes to Daylight Atheism), I mentioned how Ayn Rand holds an attitude best described as “cornucopianism.” She treats every natural resource as inexhaustible. Nothing ever gets scarce or runs out, so nothing needs to be conserved.

When the narrative moves to Galt’s Gulch, a secret hideout for the world’s greatest capitalists, the paradox gets sharper. Their logging, mining and heavy industry don’t create any pollution or leave any mark on the beautiful natural landscape. What’s more, conveniences like roads and coffee and fresh fruit appear as if materializing from nowhere, despite there being no obvious way to produce them.

Now—if you were of a libertarian bent yourself—you might object that this is a work of fiction, stripped down to the essentials to make a philosophical point. You might argue that libertarians know perfectly well that in the real world, natural resources aren’t infinite. You might say all of those things.

With that in mind, let’s talk about Rio Verde Foothills.

Rio Verde Foothills is in the desert in Maricopa County, Ariz., so you can see where this libertarian paradise is going.

if you look at the RCP polls:

realclearpolitics.com

… one can see a few things that stand out:
1) Trump’s lead is undiminished;
2) The Swamy post-debate bump is stablizing;
3) DeSantis is in a DeDeath march;
4) Pence and Haley seem to be competing for the same audience, as their totals add up to around 10% or a bit less, consistently, they just swap among themselves who leads who;
5) If the RNC sets the bar at 3% for the next “debate”, the field on stage will be considerably smaller, consisting of only those above.

I can understand using drones to check up if there have been calls or other indications of some disturbance or violation of the law, but just checking on people (and by that we mean blacks and minorities) congregating in backyards and rooftops, that seems to constitute a serious violation of privacy.

The “expectation of privacy” as defined in law did not really have a vertical component to it as there were no police drones (or even helicopters) in wide use when it was first adopted.

Because there is still a chance that Trump will be convicted of a felony before the ballots for the real election (November) are set in stone.

If that happens the RNC will be stuck. If Trump has just one felony conviction, Trump may find himself disqualified for being President, at least in some states.

Thus there is a chance that the broker$ will force the issue and the RNC will make a nomination that puts someone else on ballots besides Trump.

And this of course also means a Trump/Smarmy ticket running as independent or being the nominees for smaller parties (like AIP or Libertarian).

So I went to watch the Wheel of Time season premier… and I stopped near the end of the “previously” section.

It just doesn’t make sense to me.

By which I mean, there is not really a story here.

It’s more like a collage of nifty fantasy ideas.

I know the hard-core book lovers really disliked season 1. The Robert Jordan fans were throwing tantrums the likes of which were only out-done by the Tolkien fans over RoP.

I tried to read Jordan’s first WoT book… gave up on the first page. Tried an audiobook of the same… gave up after a few minutes. I found Jordan’s writing to be rather blah, unlike Tolkien’s.

But the book stuff aside, the Amazon series I watched when it came out, found it ok, certainly well enough done to not be an eye-sore. Like so many high budget shows these days, the videography is good, and sets adequate to very good, the costumes fine.

WoT failed bigly, though, in not feeling “lived-in”, as critics like to say. WoT was too clean (hence the jokes about the OxyClean guys.)

But even with the overly-clean look, I think the real problem is that it is not one story.

Season one was a melange, a kind of table setting that long-running series may do in their first season (see Babylon 5 or Breaking Bad for good examples of such).

I think what I found problematic is that the table as it was being set was not being set with items I necessarily want to eat.

The romances hinted at… fell flat. The actors chemistry with each other did not convince me.

The magic was … really a kind of religion. Ok, so all religious miracles are magic, but not all magic is religious.

It seemed to me that Amazon’s show tried to make a big religious epic (like LOTR)… but there is a problem with the religion.

It’s not really there.

That is, the characters on the screen, the supporting characters, the masses of extras, aren’t practicing it.

Once again, the world did not feel lived-in. The belief systems were not being lived.

Oh well, I’ll still probably force myself to watch it.

So it turns out if your an expert in one field, but you don’t consult experts in other fields which would intersect with your research, you can have bad results.

For example, it is known by cardiologists when conducting heart-bypass operations, the surgery can induce infections in the brain. As that is not particularly desirable, a bunch of cardiologists decided “gee, what if we inject antibiotics into the brain before we start our procedures, bypassing the blood-brain barrier to get the antibiotics where they’re needed?”

What they didn’t do: Consult either pharmacists or neurologists before conducting the experiment. While the patients consented to the experiment, they weren’t told about all the problems because the cardiologists didn’t know them.

Penicillin (the drug used) and other antibiotics can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy because they interfere with anticonvulsants, or kick-start epilepsy in people who never had it.

It turns out they caused a bunch of people to develop epilepsy with this experiment.

This problem was originally discovered in 1966 by American neurologists studying rats. They published a peer-reviewed paper at the time.

This year a bunch of Polish cardiologists, knowing none of this, decided to try that, with predictable results.

(Park downtown - weekend rates - and take the N-Judah muni to the park.)

hardlystrictlybluegrass.com

Days Inn in Meadville up this way would have a weekend bluegrass festival (haven’t been in a while). It was a great time. They would hold it in February. Wife and I would get a room, a case or 3 of beer, and just wander the halls. We hardly ever went into the main stage area. Would just wander the halls and pop into rooms with the door open and music coming out. Give out a couple beers and sit and listen to whoever was in there playing. People came in from all over, Ohio, PA, NY, WV. A good time was had by all.

Even if that is what we did, this is a problem… why? “Work ‘till you drop” is such a corporatist attitude. People need relief from stress, and studies have shown that far and away, the #1 stress in most people’s lives is their jobs. There’s immense pressure to perform, because our job is our literal lifeline; without it, we’re two steps away from the homeless shelter. Actually, the government mandating paid no-excuse vacation time for all full- AND part-time employees would probably do wonders for productivity.

I still have to pay off a mortgage under $ 20k. This is the first time in my life that I have been injured and I am at loss as to what I should do.

You are close to old enough to take early retirement, if you can afford to take the lower social security payment for retiring at age 62, and you can get health insurance. You may want to look at what your monthly social security check would be at ssa.gov

The previous two months of job creation were revised down a total of 110,000 jobs, clear evidence of a cooling economy, and the U6 unemployment rate jumped up to 7.1% as more people entered the workforce. Things are looking good for a non-recessionary cooldown, and the Fed can probably pause interest rate increases.

So, depending on your level of savings and access to health insurance (you could probably get a free or virtually free policy through healthcare.gov) you can determine if that is enough for you to retire on or not. Obviously, you don’t have to tell us.

I took it when I was 67-1/2 but I was fortunate in that I didn’t really need it. The thing I like about taking it now is that SSA deducts medicare payments so I don’t have to worry about cutting a check for that (we’ll skip the discussion about how friggin’ expensive it is).

What states? Is there a single state that bars a felon from running for President? Eugene Debs ran from prison.

Okay, here’s an electrical puzzler…

A few years ago I installed a smart thermostat (Ecobee - works with Alexa or a phone app or both). The old thermostat was just a slider where you set the temp and when the heat dropped to that point it kicked in until it got above the needle again.

When the electrician put in the smart thermostat (the old one had two wires…this one has more) he had to run a new cable through the attic crawl space and feed it down to the furnace in the garage and then connect all the colors to their appropriate places.

A while later, the condensation pump outside the furnace gave out and I had that replaced. The old one we just set back to the side between the furnace and water heater and I said I’d toss it later (this was about 18 months ago). Well, yesterday as I was cleaning things in the garage I decided to toss the old pump in the trash only to discover it was connected to a small red and small white wire that went into the furnace. Otherwise it was unplugged as the new sump took its place.

Well, when I disconnected those two little wires and threw it away, what happened? The new thermostat lost power. Somehow the old two-wire line is still feeding through the motor of that dead pump and back to the thermostat. I took it out of the trash, stripped some more of the red and white wire (thankfully I didn’t snip them at the base) and hooked it up. Still nothing. Then I realized the sump was upside down and needed the ‘float’ to be descended to engage the circuit.

So, how do I fix this? Twist the red and white wires together? They’re low voltage. But I’ve shorted shit out and burning the Carrier out would be an 8,000 dollar mistake.

Probably need to pay the electrician another $150 for a house visit.

At this point my opinion is that while the 14th Amendment disqualification is probably accurate it’s a ship that has sailed.

If it is attempted it will be heavily disruptive, litigated, and end up with the Supreme Court - with no idea how it will land since it’s the current Supreme Court. (And I can just imagine the whining by the media and Trumpists once a single locale removes him from the ballot much less multiple states. Would dwarf the 2020 efforts to claim the election was “stolen”.)

I think the country would be much better served by assuming the election will ramp up with Trump as the GOP nominee* and the best result will be an electoral result simply crushing Trump. Why libertarian cities fail (Adam Lee at OnlySky, April 6, 2023)

Rio Verde Foothills is in the desert in Maricopa County, Ariz., so you can see where this libertarian paradise is going.

I had a teenage infatuation with Ayn Rand so I’m very familiar with her work. The major conceit in Atlas Shrugged is that rich people are basically propping up the world for lower forms of human beings, such that a guard is murdered and Rand goes into detail about how the character feels nothing for having killed him. “Atlas” is the wealthy, and if they were to “shrug” the world would come toppling down without them. Galt’s Gulch is shown as a place where genius, unfettered by the whingings of lesser minds, creates technology so amazing that they can thrive in isolation. It’s Lucy taking her ball and going home to create a new kind of steel.

But calling it a work of fiction skips the 40 page rant towards the end of the book when a character explains the whole worldview of Ayn Rand.

She meant it.

And I love to point out the irony that she ended her life dependent on social welfare.

I agree with your point in general, except for the bolded. There have been a few consistent points about the Calvinball Court. One is that they place the religious rights of Christofascists above all. Another is that they have absolutely no intention of carrying water for Donald J. Trump personally. As far as they’re concerned, he can fuck all the way off. I think, if a properly adjudicated 14th Amendment challenge were to come before them - especially if it was on the back of a conviction in court - they’d probably uphold it.

Yes, and absent a conviction, any 14A challenge to Trump specifically will be hotly contested. Personally, I believe that it should be sufficient to prove that 1) an insurrection happened, and 2) the individual in question materially participated (which would, at this stage, disqualify the former guy from holding any office), but you just know the MAGAts will froth at the mouth if some SoS disqualifies him before the final appeal of a criminal conviction is denied.

If even one swing state disqualifies Trump from appearing on the ballot, it will become mathematically impossible for him to win. And we cannot survive as a democracy if he wins!

No — it would take more than one swing state for him to lose, if he manages to win the other swing states. There is something seriously wrong with almost half the voters in this nation.

I take issue with that characterization. The percentage of voters who are Trump supporters is quite a bit lower than 50%. They hold outsize power mostly due to their location and the foibles of our Electoral College. In a true nationwide winner-take-all contest, the results wouldn’t even be close.

One of those other devices probably have a 24VAC power output that could power your thermostat. The original two wires worked with a mercury switch which was the old tsat.

Might be best to call an electrician or a low-voltage technician. I don’t want to advise further unless I’m there with a voltmeter and can check your architecture. I’d do it free of charge but the Trip Charge would be a little excessive.

I think Mi and Pa are off the table for Trump, so he can survive losing Az or Ws, but only if he wins Nv, NH (he didn’t win either in ‘16 or ‘20), NC and Ga. Assuming Biden holds Nv and NH, if Trump is left off the ballot in any of Az, Ws, NC or Ga, I don’t think he can win the election.

Good morning

Apologies if this has been been posted already, but the “gas bros” on the the ERCOT board are up to their usual shenanigans. They’re looking to curb development of battery backup infrastructure. Proposal 1186 would require that battery operators “overbuild” in order to store more energy than is needed any any given time. I’m pretty sure there’s no equivalent requirements for the thermal boys.

Smith, who represents a company that operates storage batteries for the grid, argued before ERCOT’s board of directors that a policy known as 1186 will hurt the up-and-coming industry.

“It will have a chilling effect on investment,” Smith said.

Smith said the proposal requires battery operators to have more power than needed at any given time. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any equivalent requirements for the natural gas plants.

“This is like the government mandating a car have a 50-gallon tank for gas, but never allowing the fuel tank to go below half empty. The extra cost and weight are not valuable since the extra gas is not used,” Smith explained.

I know the DOJ has been low-balling these sentences, but we do have to keep in mind, 10, 15, 17 years in a federal penitentiary is no picnic.

Now Rudy really needs the money to pay the people he’s wronged, but he has no Fuks left to give.

This I did not know, though:

In 2006, “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White was banned in a Kansas school district because parents argued that “talking animals are blasphemous and unnatural.”

I guess this parent had never read Numbers 22:21-39, the story of Balaam’s Donkey.
Since it’s been 17 years I wonder what has become of this weirdo parent’s children since then?

My three slept ON me last night (cool night). The older two were quiet, but the youngest was on my face (on top of the CPAP mask), and he is never still. I do not feel fantastic today.

There is some good time credit available, but most of federal sentences have to be served. He will get credit for the time he has been incarcerated since his arrest.

re: #118 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

The series is basically fantasy by committee. First, there is zero indication that this village out in the middle of nowhere is multiracial, but someone on a committee thought, “hey, we need to create an interracial marriage, so let’s do that.” Are there different ethnicities in Jordan’s WOT? Sure! Are they running around the same redneck village up in the mountains? No, they are not.

I will say that if you can find a copy of the first book where Jordan added the prelude, that helps a bit, in that it helps flesh out the opening characters a bit. I thought the first two books were pretty good. The third one might be but it slowed down and I got demotivated to make it past about page 50.

Peer review of Loeb’s findings have been somewhat unsupportive. Questions about the object’s speed, etc, but it tickles the (armchair expert) SF fan in me:

(Have no idea how credible this publication is)

Harvard’s Avi Loeb reports that the Galileo Project just completed the early analysis of 57 spherules from the crash site of the first recognized interstellar meteor, IM1.
[…]
How unusually fast and strong was it?
The fireball light curve showed three flares, separated by a tenth of a second from each other. Prior to entering the solar system, IM1 was moving at a speed of 60 kilometers per second relative to the Local Standard of Rest of the Milky-Way galaxy, faster than 95% of all stars in the vicinity of the Sun. Based on the fact that it maintained its integrity at an impact speed on Earth of 45 kilometers per second down to an elevation of 17 kilometers above the Pacific Ocean, its material strength must have been tougher than all 272 space rocks documented by NASA in the CNEOS meteor catalog, including the 5% minority of them which are iron meteorites.
