Mike Lindell loses appeal against FBI’s seizure of his cellphone in a Hardee’s parking lot
Lindell claimed that the seizure violated his constitutional rights. An appeals court disagreed.
“Lindell’s irritation as to where and how the government took possession of his cell phone does not give rise to a constitutional claim, let alone a showing of callous disregard for his constitutional rights,” the ruling said.
“Here, a federal magistrate judge determined there was probable cause to seize and search Lindell’s cell phone. The warrant explicitly authorized the search of Lindell’s person for his cell phone as well as the seizure and search of the phone for records and information constituting ‘fruits, evidence, or instrumentalities’ of the three federal offenses” Lindell is being charged with, the ruling says.
Those charges include identity theft, damage to a protected computer and conspiracy to commit identity theft and/or cause intentional damage to a protected computer.
The FBI’s investigation started after an alleged breach of election equipment in Colorado, in which data was shared in an effort to show fraud in the 2020 election.

One thing I couldn’t help but notice today is that securing the Sevastopol naval base has been a long-term geopolitical goal of Russia. They invaded and illegally annexed Crimea in 2014. Then last year, they invaded with the intention of taking the whole of Ukraine, but when that failed spectacularly, they settled for the land bridge in the East - of course, all with the goal of securing the Donetsk Basin and most importantly, the Crimean Peninsula and their Black Sea Fleet facilities in Sevastopol.
Now that Ukraine can essentially strike Fleet HQ with impunity, it makes Russia’s goal of securing Sevastopol pretty much impossible. By unleashing this war, the Russians have made an own goal.
Also, next year was supposed to be the Ukrainian elections. Prior to this war, there was a good chance that President Zelenskyy wouldn’t have been re-elected - his popularity was on the low side and anti-corruption efforts were flailing. All Putin would’ve had to do was finagle some toady of his into the office, and that’s that…done and dusted. And Nord Stream 2 would be merrily chugging away, making the EU even more dependent on Russian fossil fuel resources.
Putin’s best move was simply to do nothing. By doing nothing, he would’ve won it all.

One analysis from a couple of months before the invasion (long thread):
A better explanation is that Russia realizes that Ukraine will be a long-term hostile neighbor, is determined to retake the Donbas, is arming itself for that purpose, and it is better to act now before Kyiv has greater conventional deterrence (can target Russian cities/bases) https://t.co/HTLhi412zu

re: #70 Hecuba’s daughter

The thing is Zelensky was never actually a peacetime leader. He inherited an occupation of the East and Crimea, the embarrassment and constant uncertainty of which, not having a consensus on the way forward, depressed the entire country’s pride and explains his mixed approval ratings prior to the full invasion. When Russia finally did invade in force Ukraine was thrust into an unavoidable existential crisis with only one solution to avoid genocide, he rose to that challenge and they rallied around him.

Jerry Falwell Jr. Accuses Liberty U Officials of Sexual Misconduct
Ousted Liberty University leader Jerry Falwell Jr. has accused senior university officials of alleged sexual misconduct, suspicious financial dealings, and taking advantage of the name of his father Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr., WSET reports. In an amended complaint filed in an ongoing IP lawsuit, Falwell claimed Liberty U’s executive committee and board of trustees “maneuvered” to oust him in 2020 to gain control of the school’s $2 billion endowment. Falwell said the reason given was his wife Becki’s affair but his amended complaint lists other university officials who had affairs or were accused of sexual harassment but were not removed. His allegation of financial misconduct related to committee members making “donations” from the school to fund their personal organizations and expenses. Falwell has demanded the return of hundreds of millions of dollars he says Liberty U made while using his dad’s name in promotional and commercial projects. In a statement to WSET, the university called Falwell’s claims “improper and unsupported allegations designed to diminish former colleagues, family, and friends and to discredit the university where he formerly served.”

For some reason being able to park my Porsche, Bentley, or Tesla in my condo garage on the 50th floor of my 60 story residential building is not something I desire.
I guess you’d have to book your car elevator time, (Darling, would you pls hurry up? It’s 5 minutes to our elevator time) otherwise the wait could be a bitch-or-a-glitch (hello building maintenance? I’m in my car and we’re stuck between the 27th and 28th floor).
And there’s the increased fire hazard of petroleum fuel or lithium battery powered vehicles parked on 60 odd floors.
That’s not an acceptable risk assessment I would make.
In event of a 24 hour hurricane warning, evacuation of say 100 vehicle occupied units out of 132 total could take some hours.

TBF, peacetime is a lot harder than wartime.
It looks increasingly like Tucker Carlson is going to have his own dubbed show on Russian state TV’s rolling news channel
The same trailer as two weeks ago is now being shown on Rossiya 24 with the added caption of “at the weekend” (my own screengrab) https://t.co/ozJPqHyraD pic.twitter.com/wapqAxnp7k— Francis Scarr (@francis_scarr) September 22, 2023
I’ve only seen the 1st one. It was at about a fourth-grade level. The others may be worse.
So far, Very Short Treks has only released three shorts, and yet, those are so bad fans are already ready to write it off as one of the worst things of all time. Very Short Treks tied with the Star Wars Holiday Special when fans were asked on X to vote for which was worse.
What was meant to be a fun gateway for new fans has become a black hole of hate. Complaints about Very Short Treks have ranged from pre-school level humor to jarring and disgusting visuals that seem incongruent with the storied history of the Star Trek universe.
“It feels like something, made by people who hate Star Trek, to make fun of Star Trek on Saturday Night Live’s TV Funhouse,” summed up one fan.

Yeah, that first one was BAD. It’s what people were afraid what Lower Decks would be.
Charles McGonigal, the disgraced former FBI official, pleaded guilty to hiding $225,000 in secret payments while working sensitive cases
Charles McGonigal, the former FBI spyhunter whose indictments shocked the intelligence community, has again pleaded guilty — this time to hiding secret payments from a man with connections to Albanian intelligence.
McGonigal admitted in Washington DC federal court to one count of falsifying records and making false statements about the $225,000 he got while working sensitive cases for the FBI.
The disgraced FBI special agent pleaded guilty to one count of concealment of material facts as part of a deal with federal prosecutors.
McGonigal has now admitted to illicitly working for Oleg Deripaska — a sanctioned Russian oligarch with longstanding ties to Vladimir Putin — after leaving the FBI. He has also admitted to taking cash payments and undertaking private business efforts in Albania while he was still in a senior position at the FBI’s New York Field Office.
Hmmm the New York Field Office which conspired with Screwdy Giuliani to destroy Hillary

Wow. Clay Higgens is a moron.
“I’ve got natural *immunity* now…” “I’ve had COVID a number of times..” 🤔 I don’t think that words means what he thinks it means.

I still watch classic Trek. As for new Trek, I watched Picard and have been enjoying Strange New Worlds but that’s about it.

Looks like perfect weather for Temple’s home game tomorrow at the Linc!
re: #121 TarHellion
That depends on who you are supporting. I am a LaSalle University person. I do not think much of Temple.
