This is what I expect. The cultists will vote for Trump no matter what, but marginal voters will peal off, and Trump can’t afford to lose any.

Todd Starnes Denounces ‘Dirty RINOs’ Who Voted to Expel Accused Fraudster George Santos

rightwingwatch.org

Some right-wing members and activists tried to manufacture outrage over the vote. “Meet the Dirty RINOs Voted to Expel George Santos” screamed a headline on right-wing pundit Todd Starnes’ website over a list of the 105 Republicans who voted to oust Santos.

Earlier in the day, before the vote, Starnes interviewed Rep. Andy Biggs, who said he hoped the House wouldn’t do something “crazy” and expel Santos. Starnes complained about the lack of punishment for Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who apologized for and pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge last month after pulling a fire alarm in a congressional office building before a key vote. Of course, Santos, who filed a resolution to expel Bowman in a media stunt earlier this week, has been charged with far more serious crimes. Speaking of serious misconduct, in 2020 Biggs pressured Arizona’s House Speaker to dump Biden electors in favor of Trump.

Speaker Jesusbot argued the 23 criminal charges weren’t enough to determine Santos’ fate…before announcing Republicans would forge ahead with their efforts to impeach Biden.

thedailybeast.com

“We’re down to a three-vote margin, it’s a difficult thing to govern under those circumstances,” he said.

Later in the interview, Johnson announced that he would bring forward a vote on an impeachment inquiry against Biden, even as Republicans have failed to produce hard evidence the president committed any crime.

“A formal impeachment inquiry vote on the floor will allow us to take it to the next necessary step,” he said. “I think it’s something we have to do at this juncture.”

Do it you phony-assed hypocrite. We DARE you to try to impeach Joe!

Speaking from Beirut, Hamas deputy leader Salah Al Arouri hardens the movement’s negotiating positions by saying that ceasefire negotiations for the remaining captives will only even resume at the conclusion of the conflict.

I’m confused. Is Hamas saying they won’t negotiate until the IDF kills all the Israeli hostages?

Texas GOP executive committee rejects proposed ban on associating with Nazi sympathizers

Two months after a prominent conservative activist and fundraiser was caught hosting white supremacist Nick Fuentes, leaders of the Republican Party of Texas voted against barring the party from associating with Nazi sympathizers and Holocaust deniers.

In a 32-29 vote on Saturday, members of the Texas GOP’s executive committee stripped a pro-Israel resolution of a clause that would have included the ban— delivering a major blow to a faction that has called for the party to confront its ties to groups that have recently employed, elevated or associated with outspoken white supremacists or antisemitic figures.

In October, The Texas Tribune published photos of Fuentes, an avowed admirer of Adolf Hitler who has called for a “holy war” against Jews, entering and leaving the offices of Pale Horse Strategies, a consulting firm for far-right candidates and movements. Pale Horse Strategies is owned by Jonathan Stickland, a former state representative and at the time the leader of a political action committee, Defend Texas Liberty, that two West Texas oil billionaires have used to fund right-wing movements, candidates and politicians in the state — including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Matt Rinaldi, chairman of the Texas GOP, was also seen entering the Pale Horse offices while Fuentes was inside for nearly 7 hours He denied participating, however, saying he was visiting with someone else at the time and didn’t know Fuentes was there.

Defend Texas Liberty has not publicly commented on the scandal, save for a two-sentence statement condemning Fuentes’ “incendiary” views. Nor has it made clear what role Stickland has at Defend Texas Liberty, which quietly updated its website to reflect that he was no longer its president in October.

Tim Dunn, one of the two West Texas oil billionaires who funds Defend Texas Liberty, confirmed the meeting between Fuentes and Stickland and called it a “serious blunder,” according to a statement from Patrick.

In response to the scandal — as well as subsequent reporting from the Tribune that detailed other links between Defend Texas Liberty and white supremacists — nearly half of the Texas GOP’s executive committee had called for the party to cut ties with Defend Texas Liberty and groups it funds until Stickland was removed from any position of power, and a full explanation for the Fuentes meeting was given.

The proposed demands were significantly watered down ahead of the party’s quarterly meeting this weekend. Rather than calling for a break from Defend Texas Liberty, the faction proposed general language that would have barred associations with individuals or groups “known to espouse or tolerate antisemitism, pro-Nazi sympathies or Holocaust denial.”

But even that general statement was not enough to sway a majority of the executive committee. In at-times tense debate on Saturday, members argued that words like “tolerate” or “antisemitism” were too vague or subjective, and could create future problems for the party, its leaders and candidates.

“It could put you on a slippery slope,” said committee member Dan Tully.

uh, Dan…the Texas Republican Party is already on a slippery slope heading toward destroying democracy….

1. Voting to expel George Santos for (well-documented) frauds, misrepresentations, and financial crimes.
2. NOT voting to expel Jamaal Bowman for pulling a fire alarm.

Within hours of Trump saying he was going to go after Obamacare (now that is going to do the GOP a lot of harm as 60% of Americans have a favorable view of Obamacare. It is even a higher 65% aongst Independents) Biden’s campaign had this on national rotation.

Your Family | Biden-Harris 2024

We now have the GOP going after abortion, contraception, impeaching Biden, bankrupting people over student loans, legalizing marijuana, aid to Ukraine, woman’s healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and, now, Obamacare. The ads just write themselves. None of this issues have a majority of American behind them.

‘Perfect solar system’ found in search for alien life
bbc.com

Researchers have located “the perfect solar system”, forged without the violent collisions that made our own a hotchpotch of different-sized planets.
The system, 100 light years away, has six planets, all about the same size. They’ve barely changed since its formation up to 12 billion years ago.
These undisturbed conditions make it ideal for learning how these worlds formed and whether they host life. …
Not only are the planets similarly sized; in a far cry from the unrelated timing of the orbits of the planets in our own solar system, these rotate in synch.
In the time it takes for the innermost planet to go around the star three times, the next planet along gets around twice, and so on out to the fourth planet in the system. From there things change to a 4:3 pattern of relative orbit speeds for the last two planets. …
Over the past thirty years, astronomers have discovered thousands of star systems. But none of them are so well suited to study how planets formed. The planets’ near identical size and the system’s undisturbed nature are gold dust for astronomers because they make it much easier to compare and contrast them. That will help build up a picture of how they first formed and how they evolved.
The system also has a bright star which will make it easier to look for life signs in the planets’ atmospheres.
All six of the new planets are what astronomers call “sub-Neptunes”, which are larger than the Earth and smaller than the planet Neptune (which is four times wider than the Earth). The six newly discovered planets are between two and three times the size of Earth. …

Then 12 years later, she said it was probably a mistaken opinion but never taking any presonal responsiblity now that she was retired. Recently released notes indicate she was the primary driver behind the decision, convincing Kennedy to side with her rather than Alito, who was pushing for the decision to be entirely made by the state rather than the SCOTUS..

The Court’s obvious political decision started it on a long decline in popular approval. In 2001, 62% of Americans approved of the job the SCOTUS was doing. Now it is 40%. This has hurt the US.

Millions of people are dead because of her decision. Climate change will warp the globe in monstrous ways because she wanted to retire. It makes a political coup so much easier. We could see the end of democracy in the US because of her decision.

All thanks to O’Connor and her retirement plans.

The point wasn’t in giving a shit about Chauvin at all, it’s about the larger ethical implications in a society deliberately turning its “corrections” system into a Hell on Earth so that dull and cruel people can feel like they’re getting some kind of karmic return on their tax dollar. It’s about saying maybe we shouldn’t cheer the consequences of the racist powers that be using deliberate negligence to set up and maintain a system where conflict resolution is primarily enforced through race based gang membership to send the not so subtle message that this somehow represents a more raw and natural state for humans to live when they’ve “forfeited” the right to live in “civilized” society. Because in cheering or even condoning the specific outlier instance where one racist ass cop is on the receiving end of that violence we’re helping to empower and legitimize that despicable racist structure and the distorted funhouse mirror reflection of us it’s very much intended to provide.

Even worse… the main reason she wanted to retire was to spend time with husband who was in failing health and encroaching dementia. But his decline was quicker than anticipated, and by the time she got home he was in love with some old lady at the memory-care home and didn’t remember her AT ALL. She got exactly 0 time to be with “him” ever again.

Nov 03

“You are beautiful,” the witch said. “What did that cost?”
The young man gave her a dazzling smile. “You noticed? My firstborn.”
“To the fairies?”
“Fools. I’ll never want children.”
“So what do you want?”
“To be a composer. I’m working on an opera.”
“I’m sure they’ll like it.”

Nov 05

“Aw, it’s over?”
“I’m afraid that’s the end of the ride. Did you enjoy it?”
“Yeah! Some parts were a bit scary, and some were a bit boring, but it was exciting too! And the twists and turns and loops and- Yeah! Can I go again?”
God smiled at the soul. “Sure.”

“Sanctuary,” the child cried, running into the library.
“Nice try,” the guard following after sneered, “but only holy places can grant sanctuary.”
The librarians glanced at each other. A small nod.
The head librarian gave the guard a stern look.
“Sanctuary granted.”

A national publication along with a firsthand report from the field has confirmed that political activist Ammon Bundy has left Idaho. Mr. Bundy ran for governor first as a Republican and then as an Independent. His vote total was nearly 20% in the general election. The Atlantic published a lengthy article detailing Mr. Bundy’s current status in Idaho. In the report, they quote a well known friend of Mr. Bundy who confirmed that no one is living in his property in Emmett. Two local sources confirmed that no one is living at the property at this time.

Texas must remove floating barrier from Rio Grande, Fifth Circuit Court orders

“…Judge Don Willett, a Trump appointee, was the dissenting vote in the ruling, arguing that the Rio Grande cannot accommodate commercial boat traffic and is therefore not navigable.

Texas argued that the barrier was also meant to save lives and force migrants to cross the border at ports of entry, but Willet said Texas hasn’t proved that’s the case.

“At this stage, however, Texas has not offered concrete evidence that the barrier has saved lives or reduced illegal crossings and drug trafficking,*” Willet wrote.

In the most cold-blooded fashion, two Ukrainians, while observed by a Russian drone, take up a position in a trench. Russian drone operator navigates an assault group that fails to locate the Ukrainians who open fire, killing almost 5 people instantly, and throwing grenades at them. The drone operators are in shock.

A Russian vehicle also apparently explodes nearby at the start of the engagement, but it is unclear what took it out.

In the end, the drone has to leave, while Russians try to evacuate the dead and wounded.

Millions of people are dead because of her decision. Climate change will warp the globe in monstrous ways because she wanted to retire. It makes a political coup so much easier. We could see the end of democracy in the US because of her decision.

All thanks to O’Connor and her retirement plans.

Alito wasn’t on the court yet. Did you mean Scalia?

We now have the GOP going after abortion, contraception, impeaching Biden, bankrupting people over student loans, legalizing marijuana, aid to Ukraine, woman’s healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and, now, Obamacare. The ads just write themselves. None of this issues have a majority of American behind them.

Biden may not want to, but he really needs to hammer on abortion. Because, as we’ve seen, access to abortion is a winner.

Blargh, this is not a Sunlike system. For one thing, the star is a K star, and our star is a G star. It makes a difference. These planets have to orbit much closer to their parent star, and they apparently do (a year for the planets ranges from 9 to 54 days). I do not know if K stars have the same problem that M stars have (which is massive solar flares—and I checked, apparently K stars are very stable) but I would bet money that they’re tidally locked (as in, one side always faces the star). Also, the smallest planet is less than 3.9 the mass of the earth. I wouldn’t want to walk there all the time! What would make it a Sunlike system to me is, it’s a G star and there’s a planet (or two) in the so-called Goldilocks zone with liquid water, the planet isn’t tidally locked, and is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 Earth mass. Also, a moon and a magnetosphere would be helpful. :)

*However*, given the age of this system (12 billion years, estimated) and it’s a K star (life span of 50 to 100 billion years), all other things being equal, it’s possible there’s some sort of life on at least one of those rocks. That’s worth looking into. But don’t call it a Sunlike system. /pedant

If it’s 12 billion years old, it will be a very low metallicity system—so little if any complex chemistry, or life.

Biden has it on his radar. He knows how to fight here (heck even Carville knows it is a loser for the GOP, as he said on Bill Mahrer on Friday). While he may not be able to directly attack here he will have excellent surrogates on these issues. I expect that Newsom passed the audition for becoming Biden’s bulldog and will, along with the excellent Harris, drive the debate on these issues. He will have 2 excellent champions while Trump has clowns.

UNRWA, an organization rife with incompetence, corruption, failure and worse, really didn’t like getting a Community Note correction slapped on one of the organization’s Twitter posts.
Did they react to this by carrying on, business as usual, like any sensible person or organization? Nope, instead they published a post calling for that kind of thing to stop immediately. As one would expect, that post got slapped with a community note as well (with a whole bunch of others CNs just waiting for approval - likely just a matter of time, usually a day or two).
Because telling people on the internet not to do something clearly works every time… /

They’re finally planning to hold a vote on an official inquiry and the reason couldn’t be more obvious:

Translation: “Our lawyers have sat us down and finally beaten it into our empty skulls that we’ve no legal or legislation grounds to demand anything of anyone.”

Abbe Lowell’s letter on behalf of Hunter Biden the other day made that pretty clear: The GQP have no grounds to compel his client to appear, cannot claim legislative purpose for the subpoena unless they also subpoena Jared, and can’t claim it’s part of an impeachment inquiry because no formal vote was ever held. I imagine the WH response has been largely the same, that without a formal inquiry they won’t comply with any demands for documents other than those they feel comfortable handing over.

A bride-to-be discovers a reality-bending mistake in Apple’s computational photography

Not really a problem with the Apple camera as it is an “bug” in any panoramic photo. In an analog era, a pano-camera swiveled perhaps 120 degrees as it captured the photo lengthwose on the film. It moved slow enough for someone to run around from one side to the orther and appear on both sidies in the final photo.

Somethiong similar happened here. What a digital one does is take a lot of photos as it swivels and then stitch them together. It choses th best ones to get everything in focus. In early digital panos, if someone was moving, there would often be distortions and such.

But Apple now uses software to overcome this by picking the ‘best’ still picture in a group of photos surrounding the moving person. So here, it chose a different example for each reflection, acting as though they were different people. Kinda cool.

Visiting Scholar Brian Cox explained a number of complex ideas. One was the notion of proportionality. He explained that in the laws of war, a proportionate response has two aspects. One has to do with the decision to go to war and the objectives that are set by the state that makes the decision to go to war. This comes from a body of law called Jus ad Bellum. In this context, the law requires that the objectives of the war must be proportionate to the threat…

‘Excuse me!’ DeSantis gets testy when asked to condemn Trump calling opponents ‘vermin’

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis on Sunday refused to condemn Donald Trump for using the term “vermin” to describe his political opponents.

“Mr. Trump is campaigning on the idea of retribution,” NBC host Kristen Welker told DeSantis in an interview. “He’s promising to jail his political enemies if he’s reelected.”

“He’s also referred to some of his political opponents as vermin, language that people, frankly, across the political spectrum, say harkens back to Nazi Germany,” she continued. “Do you think that kind of language is presidential?”

“Well, I think even beyond that, the issue is, is why are you running?” DeSantis dodged. “Are you running for your personal issues? Are you running for the American people’s issues?”

Welker pressed: “But let me ask you about my original question, the use of the word vermin. Are you comfortable with that term? But are you comfortable with that term, Governor?”

“Let me just say on the DOJ, well, first of all, I’m responsible for what I say, and I say things differently,” DeSantis replied.

“Are you comfortable with that term?” the host asked again. “Let’s just on my question though, Governor.”

“Excuse me!” DeSantis exclaimed. “What I’m not comfortable with is FBI agents going after parents going to school board meetings. I’m not comfortable with DOJ, FBI working with tech companies to censor dissent.”

Welker asked the candidate to condemn the use of the word “vermin.” But he refused.

“I don’t use the term, but what I don’t do is play the media’s game where I’m asked to referee other people,” DeSantis opined. “He’s responsible for his words. He’s responsible for his conduct. I’m responsible for mine.”

DeSantis won’t condemn calling people ‘vermin’

Fox News host demands ‘honest conversation’ about how Dems are ‘communists and fascists’

Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy on Sunday called for an “honest conversation” about how Democrats should be considered “communists and fascists.”

During a discussion about Donald Trump’s campaign stops in Iowa, Campos-Duffy praised Trump for attacking Democrats.

“As the Democrats have sort of removed the mask of who they are — and we’ve seen it on display in many ways, especially over the last couple months through these protests — I love that he is just naming it out, calling them communists and fascists,” she said. “Let’s just have a really blunt, honest conversation about what are the choices in this election.”

“I like the phrase, the destroyers of democracy,” co-host Will Cain added. “Now, listen, I don’t know if it’s a matter of human nature, but I definitely know it’s a matter of political strategy, that the left has engaged successfully for a good half a decade now of accusing their opponents of the sins which they are committing.”

“What they have done is demonize others for the things that they are secretly doing,” he added. “And it’s been revealed to itself as well through this lens of, you’re a threat to democracy.”

‘Don’t even know what the accusations are’: Analyst slams GOP’s ‘no substance’ impeachment plan

As House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and his GOP colleagues’ efforts to impeach President Joe Biden potentially move forward this week, the Louisiana lawmaker insists the party will prevail in its plans.

However, during a Sunday morning conversation with CNN’s Victor Blackwell, Princeton University professor Julian Zelizer insisted House Republicans are “moving forward fast without” any real accusations, evidence, or substance.

House GOP doesn’t ‘even know what the accusations are’ in Biden impeachment inquiry: analyst

‘I don’t think there is a Republican Party’: Former GOP governor trashes ‘cult’ of Trump

Former New Jersey Republican Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, in a Sunday interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, insisted the Republican Party, as she has known it, no longer exists.

“Governor, in this Washington Post op-ed, [Robert Kagan] writes this,” Capehart said. “‘As perilous as it is for Republicans to say a negative word about Trump today, it will be impossible once he has sowed up the nomination.

“The party will be in full general election mode, all to the presidential campaign. There will be no more infighting, only outfighting. In short, a tsunami of Trump support from all directions.’”

Capehart asked, “Governor, as a former Republican office holder, does Kagan’s warning ring true?”

Whitman replied, “Yes, it does, absolutely. … Let me just say, I don’t think there is a Republican Party, there is a cult around Donald Trump.

“They didn’t adopt a platform in 2020, which meant that they didn’t set out what they stood for. It was whatever Donald Trump tells us we should stand for today, that’s what we’ll stand for.

“So it’s not a party as we have known it. Believe what he says. He says what he’s going to do. Believe him. He will tear down the very guardrails of our democracy — the rule of law the respect for the constitution.

There are some tasteful and well-done face/neck tattoos out there. I don’t think it should be done casually, and you definitely should consider your circumstances (it can affect your employment in some situations if you have visible tattoos, no matter what they are).

It severely limits your employment opportunities. You can exclude most client-facing jobs. Anything in a more conservative field (lawyer, etc.) and even a good amount of technical field service jobs (goes back to client-facing) because how comfortable will a home-alone mom be letting that person in their house? I’m pretty fucking liberal in how I think about people and I have to say, that would give me pause.

Nothing, any store that sells oil has to accept used oil at no charge. Some service stations up here heat with used engine oil as well.

No idea; sometimes House vacancies just stay vacant until the next regularly scheduled election.

That happens when a Republican governor wants to keep a Democrat from office — either because the seat is safely Democratic or because they fear the seat may switch parties.

Well, it can work the other way: I don’t think Gov. Newsom is going to be in any big hurry to schedule a Special to fill Kevin McCarthy’s seat if/when he bolts, as I think that district (farm country, IIRC), is pretty red. From my readings, I think the outside timeframe for scheduling is something like 5 months. So I’m guessing CA-21 will be unrepresented for a while.

I’m baffled that people get tattoos on their face. (or neck for that matter. or forehead. WTF is wrong with these people?)

You gotta really be into tattoos to get them on any skin covering a boney part of the body, e.g. shin or skull, as they’re really painful.

Not enough flesh under the skin to help absorb the shock of the penetration of the tattoo needle.

Tattoos can play a part in recovery from intravenous drug use. I’ve known friends who had kicked the habit (they were clean), and would get a tattoo instead of relapsing to the urge for “just one last taste.” One who was all tatted up, succumbed rather than get another tattoo, and overdosed.

I do want to make it clear. I’m not saying all folk with tattoos are junkies.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirate — An American warship and multiple commercial ships came under attack Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said, potentially marking a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war.

“We’re aware of reports regarding attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available,” the Pentagon said.

The Greased Penis vs. Donna Brazile.

‘Totally comfortable’: Reince Priebus battles Donna Brazile over Trump’s ‘91 felonies’

Former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said he is ready to throw his support behind Donald Trump for president even if he is convicted of any of the 91 felony charges he is facing.

During a Sunday panel discussion, ABC host George Stephanopoulos seemed surprised at Priebus’ willingness to support Trump despite his criminal problems.

“And you’re totally comfortable going into the election with a candidate who’s been accused of 91 felonies?” Stephanopoulos said.

“Um,” an off-guard Priebus replied, “I’m comfortable if that’s what the Republican party wants to move forward with, sure, 110%.”

“I would take Donald Trump over Joe Biden every single day of the week, no problem,” he continued. “Because where this country has gone and how far we’ve gone downhill in the last three years is a place that most Republicans aren’t willing to go.”

And of course George Snuffleufflegus cuts Donna off as she replies…

Reince Priebus will be 110% behind Trump after convictions
