GOP really did back the wrong horse. Nobody has sympathy for Putin right now or even if they do, they know it is a bad time to express any solidarity.

Nethanyahu again demonstrating that although he is not responsible for the October 7 attacks, he nonetheless bears a great deal of complicity

Israeli PM ‘missed chance’ to cut off Hamas cash, says ex-spy chief

Israel’s prime minister missed the chance to starve Hamas of cash, years before its murderous attack last October, according to a former senior Israeli intelligence officer.

Udi Levy has told BBC Panorama he advised Benjamin Netanyahu to target Hamas’s finances.

He believes this would have hampered the group’s military build-up, but says the intelligence was not acted upon.

That’s not the way Jon does it. He will go after Mike and the Republicans for this. He just will try to find something to attack Biden over.

Jon was never a “both sides deserve the same blame” guy. He’s just a “both sides aren’t doing it right and here’s what they’ve done” guy. He just somehow never adjusted to the fact that he was always reporting on Republicans and maybe there’s a reason.

I would argue he always has been a bothsider. I specifically remembering him dismissing atheists using the fucking stupid “It’s just two sides of the same coin” horseshit on the show once.

And let’s not forget the inanity of the Rally to Restore Reason, which ended for a plea for both sides to come together for the good of the country. Which is fine, until you remember at the time, one “side” was pushing the idea that the first Black POTUS wasn’t an American, among other racist bullshit.

But your bolded quote above is a really good description of his current mindset. This really seems to be a problem with a lot of comedians and comic entertainers; if you have an opinion that comes down firmly on a specific viewpoint, you somehow can longer be funny. The fucking South Park guys come to mind on that one: “Hey, everyone, every time you vote, you’re voting for either a douche or a shit sandwich, so why bother??”

The United States has proposed a rival draft United Nations Security Council resolution that would underscore the body’s “support for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza as soon as practicable,” according to the text seen by Reuters on Monday.

Washington has been averse to the word ceasefire in any U.N. action on the Israel-Hamas war, but the U.S. draft text echoes language that President Joe Biden said he used last week in conversations with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The U.S. draft text also “determines that under current circumstances a major ground offensive into Rafah would result in further harm to civilians and their further displacement including potentially into neighboring countries.”

Israel plans to storm Rafah in southern Gaza, where more than 1 millions Palestinians have sought shelter, prompting international concern that such a move would sharply worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The draft U.S. resolution says such a move “would have serious implications for regional peace and security, and therefore underscores that such a major ground offensive should not proceed under current circumstances.”

I read that in my best Irish accent, which sometimes sound likes Lars’ accent.

U2 frontman Bono took some time out from the band’s setlist at the Last Vegas Sphere last night to share some impactful words with the audience at the venue. Before performing the U2 song Peace on Earth, the Dublin native shared his thoughts on how religion can “so enrage us”.

The Irish performer has always been quite open about his views on war and religion throughout his career. At Sunday night’s show at the groundbreaking venue, Bono took some time out to address the ongoing situation in Palestine, referring to how Ireland achieved peace and ended The Troubles.

During his passionate speech at the Las Vegas Sphere, where U2 are currently performing their second run of shows, Bono told the cheering crowd to “shut up” when he was sharing his thoughts.

He said: “To see what the children of Abraham have been doing to each other all over the world for millennia as well as this very day… It’s bewildering to see the suffering of Palestinian children after we saw the suffering of Israeli children.”

He added: “When love looks laughable, I am sure that it is the devil laughing. I understand how ridiculous ‘love thy enemy’ sounds right now.

“We can’t live with ‘love thy neighbor’ even in our band, in our country, but it is a divine command and not advice.

I wonder how many of those “missile sites” in Yemen consist of a rocket or two mounted on pickup trucks, which stay quietly parked out-of-the-way until they trundle off to near the coast to pop off at some passing ship?

No naval expert I, but ISTM that in the 21st Century, given the quality of weaponry available even to second/third-tier “militaries” (like the Houthi militias in Yemen), vessels transiting confined bodies of water (like the Red Sea) are going to be at significant risk.

This may not be accurate, but it is from five days ago.

Some Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, are increasingly restricting the U.S. from using military facilities on their soil to launch retaliatory airstrikes on Iranian proxies, according to four people familiar with the issue.

The U.S. has long deployed thousands of troops at facilities in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and elsewhere in the Middle East, and the Arab countries’ role in supporting U.S. military activities has come under intensified scrutiny since the Israel-Hamas war that erupted in October.

I understand that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has publicly announced that they have successfully stuck anti-ship missiles and their launchers in containers and have deployed them to ships in waters where IRGC operates.

The IRGC also operates a command and control ship in the Red Sea (the Behshad) that is helping the Houthis identify and acquire targets. As of this morning, it was sitting off Djibouti.

Exactly!

At this point the Danes appear to have some Israeli produced 155’s and Himars equivalents to replace the Caesars they donated to Ukraine, some 120mm mortars, some mothballed very old M109’s and maybe some very old 105 towed M101 howitzers.

They still have the personnel and as you point out, will backfill as equipment becomes available. Much of which may already exist in US equipment depots.

ETA - And yes, it sounds like they are donating most, if not all of their artillery ammunition stocks.
I also vaguely remembering hearing that the Danes are building some new artillery ammunition factories in concert with either the Germans or the other Scandinavian countries.

JAMA Network: Thunderstorm Asthma and Climate Change

On November 21, 2016, the city of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, experienced an unprecedented and extreme weather event. The event was “thunderstorm asthma,” defined as the sudden onset of asthma symptoms in a large number of people due to a rare interaction between specific types of thunderstorm and high airborne allergen levels. Within 30 hours of the event onset on November 21, 2016, the following impacts were seen in local hospitals: 3365 people presented to an emergency department with acute respiratory symptoms, representing a 672% increase over the typical number of respiratory-related emergency department presentations; 476 asthma-related hospital admissions occurred, representing a 992% increase over the typical number of asthma-related hospital admissions; 35 people were admitted to an intensive care unit, exceeding the typical rate of 5 or less per day; and the event was responsible for 10 deaths.

Thunderstorm asthma was not on my climate change radar. (BTW, can you guys access the article?)

I don’t remember exactly how I did it, but I signed up for weekly email summaries from JAMA for several things (Online First, New Issue, Cardiology, Neurology, COVID-19 Update). I often find there’s a lot of interesting/exciting information in the links, but I also find I have very little time to really read up beyond the headlines.

And, of course, there are the “yeah, I’m not surprised” articles: Effect of Higher-Dose Ivermectin for 6 Days vs Placebo on Time to Sustained Recovery in Outpatients With COVID-19

Meaning These findings do not support the use of ivermectin among outpatients with COVID-19.

The only problem the GOP ever had with Russia is that it was Communist. Once Putin took over it was no longer Communist so they had no problem backing it.

Like they backed Pinochet, the Shah, Franco, the various military juntas all over south and Central America etc. ad infinitum. The GOP has never much cared for freedom or democracy.

Dumbass Tim Burchett AGAIN…

U.S Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) is being criticized for wrongly identifying the suspect in last week’s Super Bowl Parade shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, and also claiming he is an “illegal Alien.” That mass shooting left one person dead and 22 others, including 11 children, injured.

Congressman Burchett made national headlines last year after the Covenant Elementary School mass shooting in Nashville, when he told reporters while standing in front of Congress, “we’re not going to fix it. Criminals are gonna be criminals.” Three nine-year old students and three staff members were killed by a shooter with two AR-15 style assault rifles and a handgun. He instead called for a Christian “revival.”

On Thursday, Rep. Burchett posted to X the photo of a man, seated, with his arms behind his back and flanked by law enforcement officers.

“One of the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade shooters has been identified as an illegal Alien,” Burchett falsely claimed on his social media post (screenshot below). The post has received 1.4 million views.

That man is not the shooter, not a suspect, nor an undocumented immigrant, according to reports.

On Thursday CNN reported three people, including two juveniles, had been taken into custody. The adult was not arrested and was released.

“Two juveniles were charged with crimes connected to the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally, authorities said Friday, as the city tries to recover in the aftermath of the violence,” the Associated Press later reported. “A mother and popular disc jockey died in the burst of gunfire Wednesday as the parade and rally were concluding.”

The man Rep. Burchett, and others, falsely claimed on social media was one of the shooters has been identified.

“The man in the photos is Denton Loudermill. He’s an Olathe native, a father of three daughters, and a proud Chiefs fan. He’s not a mass shooter,” ABC affiliate KMBC reports, noting the man wants to clear his name. “Attorney and justice advocate LaRonna Lassiter Saunders is working on his behalf.”

“Mr. Denton has received death threats over a lie, over misinformation,” Saunders said. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He did not commit a crime. So please, run, tell that. Get the truth out there. Help us clear his name. Help us save his life.”

As of the time of publication Rep. Burchett’s post has not been taken down, nor has he made an apology.

Former federal and state prosecutor Ron Filipkowski, the editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch, wrote on social media: “I urge this man, who is an American who had nothing to do with the shooting, to sue the hell out of Rep. Tim Burchett.”

It makes sense if you ask how long has the GOP supported and made excuses for dictators…so long as their kleptocracy mostly houses the money in the global north.

Stanning Franco and Pinochet is so old hat that it’s barely concealed, but scratch the surface and you’ll find apologetics for guys like Stroessner and Salazar.

It’s Marty

This particular model of autonomous robot is referred to as “Marty” and was created by Badger Technologies for Giant/Martin’s and Stop & Shop locations on the East Coast. There are nearly 500 robots in grocery stores right now, and they’re pretty astonishing.

These robots are equipped with cameras, sensors, a navigation system and software that helps detect potential hazards. When robots circle the store, they’re looking for spills, misplaced items, obstacles and potentially harmful debris (kind of like a robot vacuum). Not only that, but they’re also scanning price tags and checking to see which items need restocking. As these helpful robots gain popularity, we might just be seeing them all over the country!

Another day of high wind and rain on the coast, so I’m taking the missus over the hill to see a movie - Argyle - looks like corny fun.

Okay, two things:
1. Flores Cantina next to the theater at the Hillsdale mall - shit-ton of tequila choices and good, simple, authentic Mexican dishes - their guac was good and a small enough portion not to be overwhelming. Their house made salsas (mild, med-hot, hot) were all very good, and their tacos were actually more than I expected - I was thinking street-sized, but these were slightly larger - and they make their own corn tortillas.

2. Some movies lend themselves to the big screen…Argylle’s one of those films. Getting Alfie’s facial expressions in the first part of the movie is great…and I was happy to see him play a role again towards the end…good cat. The movie itself was as I predicted, corny as fuck and probably about 20 minutes longer than it needed to be, but the weather being what it is, it was fine to relax in a leather recliner with a margarita and watch.

3…oh yeah, fuck. They serve hard liquor at Cinepolis ‘luxury’ theaters…and their top shelf margarita was surprisingly good…and I had already had two tequilas with lunch.

Yeah, a lot of “small” businesses (or privately held bigger businesses) might register in Wyoming, like they do with Nevada. But Delaware is on an entirely different level. They have special courts for corporate law matters, something that neither Wyoming nor Nevada have ever tried to do. If you’re going to be a publicly traded company, you set up in Delaware.

Had a client who built a call center in Wyoming some 30 odd years ago.

He didn’t move there but I asked what it was like to live in Wyoming - having never been there.

The response was, “for the most part you know which direction the wind blows because the trees all lean in that direction”

Oh the fun ahead…
Cologne and perfume too! Such as….roadkill/hot day dead deer/my underwear is sticky/did you throw up/and the “do you even wipe yourself”?…

NOT RELEASED YET BUT YOU CAN BUY THEM ON EBAY AND TEMU AND OTHER SITES WHO SWEAR NO KNOCK OFFS OR COUNTERFIETS WILL BE LISTED.

Oh I can smell the burn….

From the Philly Inquirer.

Who’s selling the Trump sneakers?
The sneakers were available via a new website called gettrumpsneakers.com which Trump announced at Sneaker Con.

The website says it’s run by CIC Ventures LLC and that the products on the site are “registered trademarks and/or trademarks of CIC Ventures LLC.” It also says that “Trump Sneakers are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals.”

But Trump reported owning CIC Ventures LLC in his 2023 financial disclosure.

Where are the Trump sneakers made?
Details on where the shoes are being produced are not disclosed on the company’s website. Manufacturing details have not been made available.

Are the shoes being resold yet?
Oh yeah. As of Monday morning, more than 30 pairs were listed on eBay for thousands of dollars. At least 50 pairs appear to have already been sold on eBay, though there’s no way to know if all the sales are authentic.

The shoes also haven’t been distributed yet. They were only available for pre-sale with an estimated ship date of July. In turn, re-sales of the shoes are technically re-sales of pre-orders.

The shoes are not yet available on sneaker resale sites StockX or GOAT yet because buyers do not have them in hand.

There’s a cologne, too?
And a perfume. In addition to the $399 high tops, the Get Trump Sneaker page has two low-top athletic style sneakers — the T-Red Wave and the POTUS 45 — priced at $199 each. There’s also a cologne and perfume, each called Victory47 both priced at $99. Everything besides the gold high tops is still available for purchase.

It’s unclear what they smell like. According to the website, cologne has notes of “cedar heart, underpinned by a rich base of leather and amber” and the perfume has a “blend of light floral notes, hints of citrus zest, and a whisper of spice.”

Are there knockoff Trump sneakers?
Give it a few days. There’s already a similar pair of high tops listed on Temu for $18 without the American flag on the side. On Reddit, some users have suggested it would be easy to manipulate the pair to look like Trump’s.

Because their rice cooker died and they thought it would be funny to do that before they threw it out?

And now they have melted plastic debris all over their cooktop! Who’s cleaning that shit up?

I just bought a rice cooker to replace the rice cooker that I have had since 2014. Those things are not cheap. I’m going to guess this guy is an “influencer” and got the rice pot for nothing so he destroyed for clicks and giggles.

What kind of rice cooker did you get? I keep thinking about plunking down for a Zojirushi but I don’t know anyone who has one.

I have a smallish cooker of theirs, 3 cups max. The cmos battery died so it won’t keep time, when I looked into replacing it I found that it was soldered on and buried pretty deep. I do not use the delayed start since I am home all the time so the - I start it when I need cooked rice. It turns out perfect rice every time and keeps it warm till dinner. No other problems. I’ve had it since 2010. It’s $30 cheaper now than what I paid way back then.
