If the “2-star” is indeed Texas State Guard, DoD has no jurisdiction and can’t do shit about it. Can anyone see whether the tape above the chest pocket has a DoD branch name or if it says “Texas State Guard” and whether there’s a US or TX flag on the sleeve?

If there’s none of those identifiers, I wouldn’t put it past Trump for having the “2-star” there purely as a prop.

The IVF Ruling Is About Who Gets to Raise Your Children

When Republicans insist that life begins at conception, and also that seven cell clusters constitute “life,” what they are saying—what they were always saying—is that we as a society need babies so badly that somebody should always be entitled to take control and custody over somebody else’s baby, and indeed of every potential baby. Because, at the end of the day, your babies don’t belong to you; they belong, variously, to God, to the GOP, to the state, and to those who want to raise them in your stead. That isn’t just about controlling women, then, or about fertility and the power to make economic and health decisions about one’s own life. This is about the government endlessly making determinations about who is fit to take your children away from you and raise them as their own.

I am guessing that the MG is the Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard, a political appointee of the Texas governor. The rank is temporary unless he is or was a division commander. It is the same in just about every state—South Carolina used to even elect their adjutant general consistent with qualifications of the US Army and US Air Force.

That officer pictured has a US Army name strip, undoubtedly.

Yep.

The other side of the same coin being the “family separations” and the subsequent diffusion of migrant kids.

“Life” isn’t unconditionally valuable such that people, especially kids, have inalienable rights; “life” is precious such that people, especially kids, should be properly allocated to the elect to use as needed and thus fulfill their purpose.

Thus the dozens of ways that children can become un-people and thus deserving of privation, cruelty, and death: those kids voided the transaction of life through noncompliance.

I was in my TxNG uniform the day I came face to face with Rush Limbaugh on the Texas Tech campus. I was there to speak at a symposium at the Vietnam Center and Archive. He was there to rouse some rabble in another part of the campus. To his credit, I suppose, he recognized my Vietnam service ribbon, and thanked me for my service. I wanted to retch and say, “Great! But where the fuck were you?” The rabidly pro-war Limbaugh had avoided service because of anal cysts, a case of an asshole saved by his own asshole.
I resisted the temptation, nodded politely and went on my way.
