Winding up the discussion about sources of information from the previous thread:
This is actually a thing as well, but “better source” would be the tag if you put an article up about the phenomenon on Wikipedia.
Rent-a-Baby: For Millennials Who Just Can’t Commit (Weekly World News, May 2, 2024)
Sourcing of articles or items does matter. Even allegedly reputable publications such as the New York Times will run articles about medicine or science which misrepresent either, because the writer or editor didn’t understand what was reported in a journal; or like the New York Post article above on anti-fungal resistant sexually-transmitted fungus, are true, but the source for the information (the Post) publishes suspect information about other subjects (and doesn’t retract it).

And, naturally, purely coincidental that this renewed “Biden is old!!!” push is coming a few days after 34 felony convictions.

Archaeologists Uncover Rare Blue Frescoes of an Ancient Sanctuary and Servant Quarters in Pompeii
thisiscolossal.com
Archaeologists continue to uncover the area known as Insula 10 of Pompeii’s Regio IX neighborhood, and a recent finding includes a stunning sky-blue sacrarium, a space for ritual and conservation of sacred objects. Brilliant red lines the niches, where statues and other devotional iconography likely stood.
The 8-square-meter room is decorated in the Fourth Style (c. 60-79 C.E.), an intricate aesthetic that was less ornamental than its predecessor but took a more narrative and architectural approach. Adorning the walls are several women donning flower crowns and flowing garments, four of which correspond to the seasons. Two others grasp a plow and pedum, a shepherd’s crook, and are allegories of agriculture and sheep-tending.
Researchers believe the room was used for storage during a larger renovation when Mount Vesuvius erupted. The team uncovered 15 amphorae, two jugs, and two lamps in the space, along with building materials and a pile of empty oyster shells that were likely slated to be ground and added to plaster.

Call Of Duty’s ‘Trans Bullets’ Are The Latest Right Wing Conspiracy Rage Bait
A possible Call of Duty bug is causing a new Pride-themed cosmetic to paint the bullets in one version of one of the game’s guns the colors of the transgender flag. Now, right wing rage jockeys are seizing this to peddle transphobic conspiracy theories so idiotic they would be laughable, if not for the real world threats underlining the outrage.
Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone went live last week. In addition to a host of new content, including Gundam skins that turn players into walking anime mechs, the update also rolled out free Pride cosmetics on June 1. “Call of Duty is for everyone, and we’re proud to celebrate Pride Month by offering seven different Weapon Camo variants, each representing the colors of the different LGBTQ+ flags,” Activision wrote on its website.
One of those camo variants is the transgender flag. When the camo is applied, it paints the players’ gun into a glittery version of the flag’s colors. It also applies the flag’s design to the texture on the ammunition cartridge for one skin on one particular gun: the M4. Call of Duty leaker BobNetworkUK discovered this almost immediately and tweeted a screenshot of it out as a joke. “THEY COVER THE BULLETS ON SOME GUNS,” they tweeted on June 1. “TRANS BULLETS they’re gonna hate this one.”
Hours later, the shitpost got picked up by the Twitter account InsaneCope, which tries to dunk on liberals by reposting screenshots of things they tweet. From there it quickly spread without any context to the usual gaming-adjacent outrage accounts. Current “FreeStellarBlade” petitioner Mark “Grummz” Kern picked it up the day after on June 3. Former Gameranx blogger Ian Miles Cheong re-shared it as well. All of them derided Activision for adding “trans bullets” to their game.
That’s where the account Libs of Tiktok, run by Chaya Raichik and infamous for pushing homophobic and transphobic conspiracies, found it. “Call of Duty is now enabling kids to roleplay being a literal trans t*rr*rist,” Raichik tweeted. “With the uptick in actual trans violence that we’ve been seeing, it’s alarming that Call of Duty would introduce this.”

Now, many migrants who are ineligible under the May 2023 rule still end up released into the U.S. because of a lack of asylum officers to screen everyone. Others cannot be deported because their home countries, such as Venezuela, will not accept deportations. Kwasmi, a freelance photographer for several Arab media outlets, was attacked Wednesday afternoon during a riot by a group of about a hundred boys in the hours before the official start of the flag march.

Tens of thousands rampage through Jerusalem’s Old City, Muslim Quarter during Flag MarchWhile he tried to defend himself from one of the boys, about ten of them surrounded him, beat him, and threw objects at him. Kwasmi was slightly wounded in the head but did not need treatment.
He continued his work and in the evening, towards the end of the parade, he was detained by several police officers for about an hour and a half, and his equipment was confiscated. According to Kwasmi, the police detained him after a known right-wing activist from Jerusalem contacted them and claimed that Kwasmi was a Hamas operative.

I mentioned the other night about how my view of Phony Stark has been shifting to seeing him as a the modern Howard Hughes and that part of that is his habit of buying up otherwise profitable companies to fund his latest passion project. And I think that was part of what motivated the decision to buy Twitter, that it gave him ready infrastructure for his ambitions with “AI” without the cost of building a new company from scratch. That it also gives him a platform for his bigotry and stupidity is a fringe benefit.
‘we are still here.’ I keep hearing that. Persistence.
Looks like Marco Comemierda Rubio is on Trump’s short list for VP. Fun fact: the constitution doesn’t actually bar the President and Vice President from being from the same state - it just makes it slightly more complicated (especially if they are from a big state).
The rule is actually that electors cannot vote for both a presidential and vice presidential nominee from the same state as the electors. But there are work arounds:
So long as the president and vice president nominees get a majority of electoral votes cast, they would win. So, if the ticket were to win 350 electoral votes, it wouldn’t matter because both would get over 270 electoral votes even with possible abstentions. If they were from a small state (to make the math easy, we’ll assume a state with 3 electoral votes) - the magic number to avoid a mess would be 273 votes. But let’s say they got 270 electoral votes, exactly - then one of the two elections would get thrown to the appropriate house of congress.
Hypothetical 1: the Democratic nominees are both from Vermont, and get 271 electoral votes. In this scenario, the Democratic nominees win Vermont and electors would vote for the presidential nominee, getting him/her to 271 electoral votes; and then could abstain from the VP vote. This would still allow the VP nominee to win, 268-267, given the current numbers.
Hypothetical 2a: the Republican nominees are both from Florida and get 270 electoral votes. Republicans win Florida and then we would need to look at Congress. Let’s assume that the Democrats control the Senate. So, then the electors would vote for the VP nominee and vote for an alternate nominee for president. The VP nominee would win the electoral college with 270 electoral votes. The presidential contest would then get thrown to the House* - where they would vote by state and most likely the Republican nominee would win because they control more of the small state delegations in the House.
Hypothetical 2b: same as above but the Republicans control the Senate. Then they’d probably vote for the presidential nominee and have the Senate elect the VP.**
The math on these scenarios depend on the states involved and margin of victory. And there are obviously ways where things could get extremely complicated leaving us in a situation where we have a president and vice-president from different parties.
*the House would vote by state and the top three electoral vote winners would be on the ballot.
**the Senate would have a regular vote, with the sitting VP able to cast a tie breaking vote. But only the top two electoral vote winners would be on the ballot.

What horseshit. Fred Sr was embarrassed that not only was his eldest son an alcoholic, but he rejected being heir to the family “empire” in order to pursue his passion of being a pilot. Donald and his other siblings not only hated on Fred Jr but also his family, encouraged their father to eventually disown him, and then exploited his worsening senility to effectively write their eldest brother’s family out of the will. Then, once Donald was in charge of the family business, he responded to Fred Jr’s family contesting the changes to the will by booting them from the family’s health care and extracted an agreement from them to drop all legal challenges to the will in exchange for restoring it.
Clicked on a live feed of Trump speaking in Phoenix just in time to hear the crowd chanting “BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT!”
