Today’s program from our podcasting affiliate, The Bob Cesca Show:

Space Alien In A Human Suit — Confusion about Elon’s new “Like” policy on Twitter. Trump returned to the scene of the crime today. Trump says Milwaukee is a “horrible city.” The Supreme Court decides not to ban mifepristone…for now. Huge article in The Atlantic shows Trump’s policies will greatly worsen inflation. Trump wants to replace the income tax with tariffs. Why this is a terrible idea. Why hasn’t Trump’s bail been revoked? MAGA wants raw milk and bird flu, apparently. Huge news out the Ohio 6th special election. How the “Biden Is Old” meme is self-reinforced by the press. Trump might have to appear at the convention from Mar-a-lago. With Jody Hamilton, David Ferguson, music by Cougar The Tiger, Michael McDermott, and more!

Good thing too. Otherwise we’d still be climbing trees to get fruit, when it was in season, and if the leopards didn’t eat you.

Benton’s cover of “Rainy Night in Georgia” is more well-known, but Tony Joe White (of “Polk Salad Annie” fame) wrote and also recorded it (White wrote it in 1967, but his 1969 release hit shortly before Benton’s 1970 version).

An interesting thing about Javascript’s async/await pattern is that it actually can bring back old school types of looping structures, because forEach() loops cannot execute asynchronously and that means when you start a forEach() loop the rest of the code after it just keeps executing, so things can get all screwed up. So when I need a loop to run completely before the rest of the code executes asynchronously it needs to be a creaky old “for/next” loop, or one of the newer “for” commands for iterating over objects (“for/in” and “for/of”). Then nothing else can run until the loop finishes.

This has been a random nerdish timeslice.

Glad I looked at this. I guess I’m going to need to share this around work as yet another example of the stupidity of the place. It’s completely idiotic. Sometimes I’m not typing anything, because I’m on a call, waiting for someone to provide me with information. Other times, I’m going through a list of incidents, looking to see if they needed to be reported to our group, or, more likely it was a single user who needed to either log out and log back into a program or needed to clear cache and cookies. In those moments, I’m taxing the ability of my laptop, browser and system of record to keep up with my typing.

And yeah, there are times I jiggle my mouse. Because I’m on a phone call and listening to someone drone on about this that and the other and jeez…

The suits at my employer would do better to ask why there are union flyers all around the data center where I work at. People are *pissed off* and this is the sort of thing that annoys working stiffs. Stop spying on us!

Hell House: Carmichael Manor review. If you find a big storage room in a chateau that’s got life-sized creepy-fucking clowns in it, maybe don’t stay in the house. It actually does though have some decent moments in it. If you made it through Nun II and thought, “Well, okay, bad but not completely bad,” this is actually a step up from that. It’s more Nun I level, where there’s good use of surroundings. I have a soft spot in my heart for found-footage flicks, even if they do borrow a bit from the Changeling and the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.

I really do love my contractor. I just say, “Can you do this?” and he says, “I got a guy.” and that guy is a fucking artist. Our cabinet and living room painter (who will do the outside of our house soon), the tile guy who did our fireplace and kitchen, the cabinet guy who matched the 50 year old doors when he built new cabinets for under the counter. All fantastic. All Mexican, coincidentally.

I can hear the concrete guy on the skids in that last image still skating around the floor like Peggy Fleming, looking for the slightest bump or irregularity…he was doing it when I arrived home an hour ago, and probably for a good two hours before then.

This refers to a point on a landmass the farthest from any ocean.

In North America, that pole is not far from where I live, in Bennett County, South Dakota.

Not surprised she did that.

Coming next from this Nazi—A Thousand Years Reich…

‘Insane’: Horrified critics blast Fox News host for suggesting 50-year MAGA rule possible

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham made a head-turning claim about former President Donald Trump on Thursday, suggesting that if Trump wins a second term, he could put together a political machine that could hold power over America for decades.

“If Trump wins, this will be referred to as the age of Trump,” said Ingraham. “He dominates the policy debate in ways that no one has done since Reagan. And if he picks a strong VP… this coalition could be in power for 50 years.”

Ingraham’s remarks drew horror from commenters on social media, with many suggesting that she was glorifying the idea of an outright Trump-based dictatorship.

“It sounds like Laura Ingram is about to say that Donald Trump’s American Reich will live for a thousand years,” wrote Russell Drew.

“Just an insane thing to say about a guy half the country hates who was voted out of office 3 years ago,” wrote Mal Reynolds.

“Laura saying the quiet part out loud here… the Unified Reich will be firmly in control!” wrote the account @MarkMantis. “How anyone would find that comforting is 100% beyond me. He’s a fraud, a sexual abuser, and a convicted felon… and you’d like him to be King. We hear you, and will happily vote for Biden.”

“Policy debate?? Who is she kidding?” wrote Gayle Glade. “Shark vs battery? Windmills? Water pressure from shower head? He’s a paragon of self awareness, ‘I’ve gotta be the cleanest-I think I’m the most honest human being perhaps that God ever created.’ A man of measured words, ‘They want me BEHEADED after this verdict! And it’s not just me they want gone, THEY’RE REALLY COMING AFTER YOU!’ So maybe it should be called ‘The Age of Republican Dumbf$#%ery’ but in 50 years Trump will be a footnote on a time this country went off the rails before Biden got us on the right path!”
