American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
According to The Gavel, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has been posted online by the Rules Committee and the bill will be introduced on the 26th of January. I have printed it further down thread for the convenience of those readers that do not have PDF.
President Obama, speaking on his web address said, “his plan will emphasize major investment in infrastructure and new technology and said he hopes for it to be signed into law within one month.”
The plan itself is broad and sweeping, encompassing many of the proposals he spoke of while campaigning. One major componant of the act involves “a clean energy economy”, his Green Plans which hope to double alternative energy sources in the next three years. Included in his Green Plan is the modernizing of government buildings and “Weatherizing” of 2.5 million American homes.
A second phase of this act would improve the health care of U.S. citizens by computerizing the country’s health records within five years and guaranteeing health insurance for eight millions Americans who are at risk of losing their jobs.
The act would “renovate and modernize some 10,000 public schools as well as improve grants and college tax credits.
The final phase of the act would invest heavily in Americas transportation infrastructure; highways, ports, mass transit systems and broadband networks. Broadband networks?
This is, by his own admission a broad and sweeping plan that will not yield results overnight. “No one policy or program will solve the challenges we face right now, nor will this crisis recede in a short period of time,” he said.
