LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles city attorney’s office has filed a lawsuit to take over a suspected drug hub for the notorious Mara Salvatrucha gang.
The lawsuit was filed Friday against Jacob Libman, owner of the 24-unit apartment building in the city’s Pico-Union neighborhood.
City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan says police have documented the building as a hangout and drug-sales hub for the Salvatrucha gang since 2004. He says the lawsuit asks a judge to appoint a property manager to clean up the building.
Reached by phone, Libman said he had no knowledge of illegal activity at the building and had no further comment.
Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, originated among Salvadoran immigrants in Los Angeles during the 1980s and has spread throughout the United States.
