Two more patients who had colonoscopies at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Miami with equipment that was not properly sterilized have tested positive for HIV, and one has tested positive for hepatitis b.it brings the Miami total to one patient with hepatitis B, seven with hepatitis C and three with HIV.The VA confirmed the number in a press release issued late Friday, but cautioned there is no way to know if the veterans contracted the viruses from the VA equipment or in other ways.Including veterans who had colonoscopies at VA facilities in Murfreesboro,Tenn., and Augusta, Ga.,with similar problems, it brings the total to eight veterans with hepatitis B, 25 with hepatitis C and five with hiv.in Miami, 3,167 veterans received letters from the VA telling them they were potentially infected, 2,211 asked to be tested and 1,547 have been notified of test results.A team of specialists is in Miami investigating how the incidents happened.The VA has apologized to the affected veterans and promised them free[…]
