Brown breaks silence over Lockerbie, but risks further rift with America
‘Gordon Brown finally expressed an opinion on the decision to release the Lockerbie bomber today, saying that he “respected” it. His comments could provoke a further rift with America.
The Prime Minister delayed a speech in Birmingham on a jobs initiative to issue a statement denying that Britain intervened over the release of Abdel Baset Ali al-Megrahi to further British business interests with Libya.
“On our part there was no conspiracy, no cover-up, no double dealing, no deal on oil, no attempt to influence Scottish ministers, no private assurances by me to Colonel Gaddafi,” Mr Brown said. ‘
A likely story!
Pull the other one, Gord!
