Steele didn’t gaffe, Republicans may change their policy on Afghanistan
Here’s the video of Steele’s comments……
Skip to 1:30 after the quip about a land war in Afghanistan.
…and so now for members of congress and the US senate there is a whole text of resources available to them through our office (mumble) assembled by think tanks to help frame those arguments so that you don’t get stuck when some says “well George Bush…ya know. Fill in the blank.” I think that’s going to be very helpful.
These are ideas and prepared talking points from the GOP and right wing think tanks against Afghanistan. This is not Steele going rogue. This is the Republican party making a conscious effort to change course on Afghanistan. Steele is a fundraiser and public spokesman but he does not set policy. The material was prepared by the Republican party not by Steele.
Some people are complaining but others aren’t.

While he is far from perfect, removing him could be more destructive — and rather pointless to boot.
However, give credit where credit is due. This is golden irony offered from Mr. Steele. He is absolutely on target with this offering, (even if I personally disagree with any conception, suggesting the U.S. cannot win ‘again’ in Afghanistan):

The current issue of Pat Buchanan’s American Conservative Magazine…..
The featured article is “The Rand Plan: Will the Tea Parties’ fiscal prudence extend to foreign policy?”. I assume this is the usual libertarian isolationist crap about our empire, colonialism and foreign wars are going to bankrupt us.
Sure, some conservatives are complaining but is that enough? Nobody on the right complained about the Birch Society at CPAC this year. The loony libertarians were welcomed back into the fold. They are now part of the Tea Party base that the Republican party is now pandering to.
It’s not like we here at LGF didn’t warn them about this.
