OK, who said?

“I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian, it’s also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”

Reagan, Anne Coulter or …… Obama?

Reagan, Anne Coulter or … Obama?

This isn’t about Obama.

Is President Obama headlining at Homocon 2010?

Of course it’s not.

Well, in my opinion, it IS about calling someone homophobic if they believe that

“Society has always regarded marital love as a sacred expression of the bond between a man and a woman”.

Just so we are clear I believe fully in allowing same sex couples to marry. 100%. (I wouldn’t force churches….)

You can call Reagan, or Anne homophobic, but then you have to extend that slur to Obama…

Besides being logically irrelevant, as Gus 802 pointed-out, your quote is also contextually disingenuous, Buck. In that very same speech, made on 16 August 2008, then-Democratic Presidential nominee Obama also stated:

“…we have not defined marriage in our Constitution. It’s been a matter of state law that has been our tradition. Let’s break it down. The reason that people think there needs to be a constitutional amendment, some people believe, is because of the concern about same-sex marriage. I am not somebody who promotes same-sex marriage but I do believe in civil unions.”

Nowhere near analogous to the party-line stance of the anti-gay set.

As for Reagan - the real focus of this thread - I cannot believe I once drank the Kool-Aid regarding the myth of that demagogic pseudo-intellectual opportunist. People who use “Society has always regarded…” or synonymous language as lead-ins to attacks on what is voluntary social behavior are pathetic. People who then claim government’s right to “resist…endorsement” of scientifically-established fact - be it AGW, evolution, or the natural reality of homosexuality - are pathetic and dangerous.
