The Improbable Alvin Greene
Great article at the National Post (Why must the best news about America come from outside America?) on the absurd and mysterious candidacy of Alvin Greene in South Carolina. The best part:
He returned with a copy of what appears to be the proudest accomplishment of his run for the Senate: a mock-up of a comic book that stars himself as a super hero. (In one of his very few policy announcements since he won the Democratic nomination in June, Mr. Greene said his plan to create jobs was to put South Carolinans to work building action figures of himself. Action figures require plastic molds and such, though. The comic book was easier to pull off.)
In front of the cameras, Mr. Greene showed off the front cover featuring his creation, the “Ultimate Warrior,” a super hero in a green suit who uses his powers to, er, help families facing foreclosure. Admittedly, the name Ultimate Warrior does not indicate his apparent specialty, though it does sound better than Foreclosure Man or Captain Low Interest Rate.
“This superhero is greater than, um,” Mr. Greene mumbled, “Batman, Superman, Spider Man, the Incredible Hulk … all those other characters.” Then he held up the book in front of his face so the cameras could zoom in.
