CL, I don’t see the photos, and when I click on when, I get the spinning wheel of death - in other words, they don’t load. Argh.

We were in Tenn, Ky, WV, Maryland, DC, VA, NC week before last; saw some color, and it was beautiful.

Would love to see yours … just can’t get them to load.

Argh—thanks for the heads up! *headdesk*

I previously had a redirect on that web site that would send everyone but me elsewhere and I forgot to remove it before posting the page.

Can you see them now?

YES.
BEAUTIFUL.

I can :) Love the freaky military-camo patterns in the third pic!

Hope it doesn’t mean the tree’s diseased though…

Some trees do that. This appears to be some sort of sycamore. Eucalyptus does this, some elms (we have a drake elm that will do this). The tree is fine.

My mom could take leaves like this, or branches with leaves on them, and make the most gorgeous arrangements, just from whatever she picked up in the yard.
*sigh* I didn’t inherit that talent. Makes me miss my mom a lot.

It’s not diseased. It’s probably in the crepe myrtle family as they have bark like that, but I honest;y can’t remember what it looks like in the spring when it’s blooming (and I haven’t the slightest clue what the names of most of the trees around here are anyway).

It’s really astonishing how drastically some of them transform through the seasons. I go nuts with the camera every spring too, heh.

Well thank goodness someone knows something about trees! Oh, how I wish I had the talent your mom did. *sigh*

re: #7 CuriousLurker

Too many brances for crape myrtle, I think.
I think it’s some sort of sycamore.

*branches* that is.

re: #9 reine.de.tout

Now that I think about it, you’re absolutely right. That tree is ginormous and not at all shaped like a crape myrtle (never knew it was spelled crape—I feel like an idjit!), which we had tons of back in TX.

This thread makes me wish there existed a mobile app where, if you snapped a photo of a tree or flower, you’d get an instant Google results page telling you what species it was - iBotanist, perhaps?

re: #11 CuriousLurker

On another note, if you have LVQ’s contact info, could you send him my email address? The LGF mail system just doesn’t want to work for us tonight :(

re: #12 publicityStunted

iBotanist would be awesome! LOL

Unfortunately, I don’t have his contact info. I never followed up with him after that discussion we were having when he said he was having issues setting up his email account. Sorry.

CL - lol.
Everybody in the world spells it “crepe”.
“Crape” looks too much like “crap”, I guess - it just looks weird, but everyone is accustomed to seeing “crepe”.

I have a yahoo.com address for LVQ. Not sure it’s his current one. At any rate, if it is, I’ll be glad to send him your e-mail addy, if you want to send yours to me. YOu can reach me at either email address shown at the cookbook blog - just click my nic to get to the blog.
