Students demonstrate against militarization and death in Juárez
A little over a week ago there was a “March Against Death” by students in Juarez. One of the students was shot by Federales, who reportedly tried to cover up the incident by picking up their bullet casings and not taking the victim to the hospital. Here is a video that apparently has the videographer approaching the scene, where students have begun to throw rocks at the Federales, and ultimately reaching the victim where he lies in the street. (He is Darío Alvarez Orrantia, 19 years old, and he is still in the hospital now.)
On November second, the students took to the streets again, with this statement:
“Today the people of Juárez have decided to reject the presence of the armed forces, not due to an isolated incident, not only because of our *compañero *Darío, but because these events are clear examples of the modus operandi of the federal police and the military. We want to work in favor of nonviolence and the demilitarization of our city because we wish to banish from it the stigma of being the most violent city in the world, seeking instead to be known as the city that works the most toward peace…”This march ended at the hospital.
