It doesn’t offend me really. It’s stupid to me more than anything that he’s comparing this to WWII and that he thinks that the American people want this. But hey if it means in a couple years he’ll lose his chairmanship then he can go around plowing his tank. He’s not George Patton and he never will be.

I don’t think it’s offensive as much as it is absurd. The whole setup of Boehner as Eisenhower, Cantor as Bradley, and Barton as Patton is just silly. Besides, isn’t Eisenhower a RINO to the teabaggers anyway?

The whole thing just makes me shake my head.

Well Eisenhower is a RINO to them for what he did in office not so much his work as a Supreme Allied Commander. Yeah, it’s stupid just like Glenn Beck reciting the old “first they came” poem and neglecting the first lines talking about the Nazis coming for the trade unionists and socialists.

It is even worse than that. It is the mewling of a pathetic toadie hack of the oil companies, developing delusions of grandeur. Patton shat bigger chunck in his stool than Barton.

Okay, I’ll go ahead and stand up and announce to the class Patton was also more than a little bit nuts. Sure, he was an iconic military leader, but he was also nutty as a shithouse rat. Anyone else read about his preoccupation with reincarnation? What about his ideas concerning race? I rest my case.

Patton the person was not Patton the movie. How predictable the Republicans would find the bullshit bravado of the cinematic Patton irresistible. Unfortunately, I have little doubt they would also get on board with the crazy of Patton had they known him in the flesh.

I have a book in my library, Hit Hard, about the first black tank regiment in the U.S. Army.

They were under Patton’s command and he visited them one day. The comment by Sgt. ‘Big Tit’ Richardson summed Patton up nicely: “You see that Green Hornet? The way his eyes roll? That man’s crazy!”

‘Green Hornet’ was the nickname Patton’s troops gave him.

On topic. It’s rather sad that war is being used as a metaphor for politics. War is about destruction and politics should be about creation. I’m guessing the wingnuts think they have to destroy America to save it.

If that’s the case I’m relieved that they’re using Patton as part of their metaphor. I think Patton is like Montgomery, a fair general but an outstanding PR man. If the wingnuts understood WWII they’d want to be von Manstein (who created the plan for the attack on France that accomplished in six weeks what Germant hadn’t done in four years in WWI), Guderian (who created the Panzers) or Zhukov (who never lost a battle).
