Apple kills super fast MacBook Air SSD replacement
It’s a technoclasm!
new tech improving faster than manufacturers can test and approve it. This will not be the first or last weird pass like this as solid state tech replaces rotating disks across the spectrum. Things are about to get very interesting.
Asian technology company PhotoFast announced one of the first replacement SSDs for Apple’s new, slimmer MacBook Airs shortly after the ultraportable notebooks were announced in October. However, Apple has asked the company to stop all production of the upgrades, which used much faster controllers than those in Apple’s official SSDs.
Apple debuted the new 11” and 13” MacBook Air models in late October, highlighting their tiny, speedy SSD drive modules based on Toshiba drive controllers. Those controllers result in performance that trounces traditional hard disks, though they aren’t as fast as some of the more recent controller designs by Intel or SandForce.
