In Witchita the Eagle is reporting that a decorated and wounded Army veteran got arrested Tuesday - he was apparently following Westboro Baptist Church members in a vehicle stocked with guns and 90 rounds of ammo.
The veteran lost his legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan while serving there.
KAKE-TV said the wounded veteran, Ryan Newell, 26, of Marion, was booked on charges of stalking and false impersonation. Newell’s bond was set at $500,000, the television station reported.
KAKE-TV reported that the Sedgwick County sheriff said Newell told authorities he was providing security for the church members, who were participating in a protest at a nearby high school. Newell reportedly said he was a reserve law enforcement officer from another county.
