I have no doubt that these are the people George W. Bush was speaking of when he expressed concern about growing nativism and drew a parallel to the 1920's. Can't believe I'm doing this but I wish at least on this particular issue that there were more Republicans and conservatives like George W. Bush.

He said that the “system is stacked against” the anti-immigrant movement

Good.

Ok, exactly what the hell does immigration have to do with the decline of "white America."

I happen to be an immigrant. I also happen to be white. Most people probably don't know it to look at me but I was not born in America and in fact, the only citizenship I currently claim is that of a foreign country (I'm a U.S. resident).

I can't speak for others, but I came to America to marry my wife and build a life here. I've had a job practically the entire time I've been here. I've worked my ass off, I've paid my taxes, paid my mortgage and I'm here 100% legally...just like many other NON white immigrants out there.

If decent hard working people like me are "destroying America" than America has serious problems. I just get so pissed off when people say that immigration is causing all these social problems in America. Newsflash: Plenty of America's government programs and social systems are seriously flawed and inefficient regardless of immigration. You think if all the immigrants magically disappeared tomorrow that America would be a jolly, happy place or that the Government would magically work properly? I seriously doubt it.

When I first made the decision to come to America I was nervous and excited. I felt like there was a lot of opportunity here for me. Now, several years later, I find myself extremely put off by the increasingly mainstream dislike of immigrants, regardless of legal status. I have considered returning to my home country (Canada) but for now that option is off the table.

My green card means something to me. It means something to them too. It means I'm a foreigner. It means I'm not a "real" American and apparently, it means I'm the enemy.

Now is this really the America the founders wanted?

I don't get it either. I have to say in my experiences immigrants are among some of the hardest working people you'll ever meet. My dad worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and met people from all over the world. He treated them as equals and I try to do the same with immigrants I encounter since after all we're a nation of immigrants and I remember the sacrifices my ancestors made.

I reposted that great comment, if you don't mind: [Link: www.voiceofthemigrant.com...]

"Rep. Lou Barletta was the final speaker before questions, and he discussed how he saved the city of Hazleton as mayor by cracking down on employers and landlords who do business with undocumented immigrants. “I stood up for the rule of law,” Barletta said, even though his anti-immigrant ordinance was declared unconstitutional."
This is the gang that screams about the sanctity of the Constitution.
Lou got elected
The GOP/TP is doing an all out "them and us" campaign that will do nothing for America. The remark that the GOP is dead in California could only mean one thing; They know where the GOP is heading, if not already at. This should cause any Republican with an ounce of sense great pain. I cannot fathom who would buy this blatant pack of lies, but here in Pennsylvania Lou got in along with all the other "patriots" who only live to serve me. I got served.
I do believe that this current crop of racist phobia riddled cretins elected by a populace too dumb to do any home work would have us all undergo purity tests to see if we are worthy of being called American. Bring on the armbands.

Didn't you know? Immigrants are Scary Brown People who speak Spanish, or Arabic or some other language, and they have funny accents and take American jobs, and have anchor babies and basically work to undermine our way of life.

Seriously. That's what all this amounts to. More brown people with accents being let in now = fewer white people in this country in the long run, ergo white America will decline.

re: #5 OrionXP

Not one bit. I feel like I'm in a largely forgotten immigrant class. Not all of us have dark skin and thick accents. It's like they think I'm different because I happen to be a white immigrant, but I don't see it that way. All immigrants should be treated the same, regardless of skin color or religion or whatever else (the same of course is true of all people in general but you get my point).

I'm an Indian immigrant, of sorts. My mother married an American so I got my automatic citizenship through that (when I was 5). People are always surprised when I tell them I wasn't born here. I do think this sentiment has something to do with the skin color of most of the immigrants today -- when Tancredo and the rest of his crew talk about immigrants, they don't mean European ones, or Canadian, or British, etc. I think we all know exactly what they mean. WWYS (what would Yoda say) Fear leads to hatred, hatred leads to anger, anger leads to the dark side -- LOL.
