Take a good look at this face: It hasn't been seen in over five millennium.

I saw one just like it five minutes ago. Not quite so skinny.

Here's another comment from the Fox News site:

"If the dating is correct for this man, biblically he dates to the life of Enoch and Lamech, Noah's Dad. If he had a long life span like the pre-flood world did (several hundred years) then he may have lived into Noah's day."

Do people actually believe that humans had life spans of hundreds of years way back in the pre-Jesus days?

Absolutely. Part of the popularity of nutritional supplements among fundamentalists is based on the idea that ancient patriarchs lived much longer and must have known something about health that our mere science does not. I hear this pretty frequently from fundies and my physician friends hear a lot more often than I do.

Good grief, that's pathetic.

The reason the Bible claims some people lived for hundreds of years is actually pretty straight forward and kind of boring. The Egyptians measured age by lunar cycles around the earth rather than earth cycles around the sun, lunar years that roughly correspond to months. If an Egyptian told you his age you must divide by 12 to 13 to convert to solar years that we use today. Another miracle of the Bible solved by boring reality.

Of course, I meant ancient, Old Testament era Egyptians.
