State official apologizes for Nazi propaganda comment here
A state official under fire for characterizing an anti-natural gas drilling documentary as Nazi propaganda in Lancaster County last week has apologized to the filmmaker.
Wayne County native Josh Fox, whose documentary “Gasland” was nominated for an Academy Award, has a father and paternal grandparents who survived the Holocaust.
Fox, and many others, have called for the firing of Teddy Borawski, chief oil and gas geologist for the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
In a talk on Marcellus shale gas extraction to about 50 local insurance underwriters in Neffsville last Thursday, Borawski was asked by an audience member if he had seen the documentary.
“Joseph Goebbels would have been proud,” Borawski said to laughter. “He would have given him the Nazi Award. That, in my opinion, was a beautiful piece of propaganda.”
