Japan Continues Dealing With Nuclear Emergency With Little Solid Information
The nuclear crisis continues and the world waits with bated breath to learn whether the Japanese can get the multiple nuclear emergencies at Fukushima under control. A NYT article is quite revealing; the Japanese government is relying on TEPCO, and the US is sending over advanced nuclear detection equipment and aircraft sensor equipment to detect radiation and get a better idea of what exactly is going on in the reactor complex, because they’re more concerned about the status of the reactors than TEPCO or the government is letting on.
With the sensors and flyovers, the Japanese government, and the US will have a much better idea of what they’re up against and can do so without having to fully rely on TEPCO. Moreover, the US has expressed concern over the pace of dealing with the crisis - and that the Japanese didn’t move fast enough to get plans in place to restore power to the coolant systems and pump systems.
