Competent engineers everywhere hang their heads in shame and deep sorrow. A man worth knowing. He and all the others are profoundly missed.

A bit of a shoddy reporting. The audio message is not real (a boilerplate Communist "greeting" copy-pasted two times). Also it's not Pravda Golovanov wrote for, but Komsomol'skaya pravda, an entirely different newspaper.

Sergey, how much substance is there to the story?

What story? That Komarov died? Nobody ever denied it. About his last words and emotions? The tapes are not out and the testimonies about them are contradictory. Basing an account on a single person's very late story (that of Rusyaev) is not very scholarly in any case. People tend to embellish and prettify as years go by. Not to mention that Rusyaev seems to subscribe to a CT that Gagarin was disposed of because he knew too much about the Komarov case. Moreover, the interviews with Rusyaev that I find online differ in details from what is written in the NPR article. E.g. Rusyaev only speculated that the note about defects might not have gone up to the top, he didn't know. While the article presents it as fact that nobody dared to give it to Brezhnev.

IOW based on truth but probably spiced up.

The stuff that legends come from. In another 200 years what will the story be like?
