Israeli airstrikes on Gaza: Compare Xinhua Reporting to Others
It is interesting that Xinhua reports the events surrounding the airstrikes factually and dispassionately, in a way we could never hope for from the AP or Reuters.
1st Paragraphs -
Xinhua:
Israeli warplanes carried out seven intensive airstrikes on posts belonging to Islamic Hamas movement’ s armed wing al-Qassam Brigades, injuring at least 17 people, medics in Gaza said.
Reuters:
Israel launched air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Monday, wounding at least 19 people, after militants fired mortar shells and rockets into the Jewish state, witnesses and militant groups said.
Guardian:
At least 19 Palestinians were said to have been wounded in the Gaza strip as a result of air strikes launched by Israel on Monday after militants launched mortars and rockets into Israeli territory.
Among the wounded were seven children, two women and four militants, according to officials from Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza.
Reuters refers to the “Jewish State” (because there are no Christians, Muslims, Druze in Israel). The Guardian ignores the military nature of the targets and makes haste to mention the Palestinian casualties, with no mention of the Israelis injured in the mortar strikes.
